  • "The owners of this property are lovely."

It felt more like staying at a friend's house. The house itself is very nice and comfortable, and the owners respond quickly to any questions about any of the house appliances. The property is gorgeous, with beautiful views of the countryside. I've rented a number of houses in the U.K. and the U.S., and this was the best experience!

If you’re looking for peace and quiet then this is the place for you and a heaven for nature lovers. I would return without hesitation. Five stars in every way.

  • "We have stayed at Yelfords several times before and love being there."

The cottage is immaculate and has everything we need. The owners are extremely nice and happy to go above and beyond to ensure everyone has an amazing stay. The location is perfect for us - hiking, running and biking across the moors and we like the privacy of being further out of town yet close enough to Chagford to enjoy the range of amenities. Just when we thought we couldn't love Yelfords more - a new extension has been built to provide a large, master bedroom suite and a modern, spacious kitchen. Wow!! We are already looking forward to next year. Tansy and Adam Challis.

  • "Yelfords was an absolute delight!"

It was even more beautiful than promised! The new kitchen was loaded with new appliances, lighting, fan, microwave, etc. The new master bedroom and bath were quite large and plush. The water pressure was delightful and having four bathrooms was downright extravagant. The house was surrounded by farms and moors with a nice path to the nearby Tor. It was also very private. The two patios were lovely for sitting out to enjoy the view. The hosts were incredibly helpful, accommodating and sweet. We toured Scorhill Circle nearby and enjoyed the sheep, the moors, the brooks and stone bridges. We were looking for a place where we could tour Dartmoor and come home to a lovely cottage and this was cottage gets an A+ in my book!

The cottage is very clean, well equipped and spacious and the owners are very welcoming and helpful. Chagford is a special little town with independent shops, cafes and pubs. Dartmoor and it’s towns are very easily accessible and we visited several National Trust places nearby during our stay.

Marvellous walks directly out of the property Michael and Ghislaine are the kindest hosts you could wish for. Be prepared for some very narrow lanes as you leave Chagford for Yelfords.

  • "Yelfords cottage is in a perfect location to explore Dartmoor."

We visited in late May 2021 and found the owners to be very friendly and helpful - greeting us and showing us around the lovely, well-equipped cottage - detailing the appliances and describing walks that started from our doorstep. From that point, they were unobtrusive, but fast to respond if we contacted them with any queries. After each day’s excursion, we would dine, play board games in the lounge or have barbecues in the sunlit courtyard - often watching huge buzzards soaring over the hills and woods of our scenic surroundings. We must have covered 70km+ on foot exploring the north east area of Dartmoor and it was great to return to a beautiful, light and spacious cottage with fantastic views and fascinating watercolour paintings that appear to have been painted by the owners or their family. We do not hesitate to recommend Yelfords Cottage as a wonderful place to stay and we would happily book future stays there. Christiana Royal Wootton Bassett

Mr and Mrs Caine are welcoming and informative, the cottage was warm when we arrived and we basically spent the week going on long walks and chilling in front of the wood burning stove - perfect. The house is really comfortable and spacious with all the mod cons you could want. Covid wise the house felt very clean and I appreciated the sanitiser and app-check in at the front door. I very much hope we come back again. Thank you x

  • "We stayed at the cottage in the first week of the summer holidays."

The hosts were lovely, informative and accessible as they live on site, next door to the cottage. The cottage itself is beautifully presented, clean and has everything you need on site to have a complete “home away from home” experience. The quiet surroundings allowed us the break we needed as a family, inclusive of our dog. Located in the heart of Devon, the location allowed us to travel to lots of places easily and catch up with friends and family who live In nearby Plymouth. The views are breath taking and with a quick 10 minute walk we were on the open moors. This property is excellent if you are looking for a quiet, secluded family break and enjoy long walks. We would definitely return to Yelfords again in the future.

  • "We have had a wonderfully peaceful week at Yelfords."

The cottage itself is spacious and very comfortable - little touches such as lots of games and books and DVDs as well as bigger luxuries like three good size bathrooms plus of course a lovely wood-burning stove which we used most nights! The cottage is surrounded by breathtaking countryside with lots of walks from the cottage up on to the moor or through woods. It was so so quiet, we loved it. Watching the sun rise from the master bedroom across the hills was very special. Our hosts live next door (the cottage is on their grounds) and are very welcoming and helpful. The service from Sykes was very good in that I was able to amend my booking easily and the directions to the cottage were easy to navigate despite the cottage being quite remote. Just a lovely week long break, hope to return.

  • "A lovely house."

Clean and comfortable and well equipped. Fantastic views over the countryside. Very quiet. Reasonable sized garden not totally secure for dogs. A larger turning circle for parking would help. A great base for exploring Dartmoor. The drive from Chagford was tricky in places, but not unusual for Devon. One of the very few houses/cottages we would consider returning to.

  • "I've stayed in many Helpful Holidays properties over the last ten years or so and in recent years I've had at least two holidays with HH each year."

There was nothing really wrong with Yelfords Cottage and the owners were very helpful. But I felt the furnishings were quite dated and the decorations were tired. I'd also like to say that since Sykes Cottages purchased Helpful Holidays, the level of service has plummeted. Dealing with HH was always a pleasant experience. The phone was invariably picked up immediately and the people I spoke to were bright, friendly and very familiar with the properties on their books. The (Sykes Cottages) customer experience is now totally different. It has all gone "a bit corporate". I no longer get the Friends & Family discount of 5% that I used to value with HH. I've just spent six minutes waiting in a telephone queue, after ploughing through various numerical "options" on the telephone answering system, only for the phone to be picked up in a call centre somewhere and told that they couldn't really help me because of the GDPR requirements .
