  • "Had a lovely stay at the Garden Room, set in a lovely location, surrounded by Beautiful well kept Gardens."

Close to lots of lovely Beaches & villages. The property is very cosy. With everything you need , only drawback, was the sofa & chair in living area was very uncomfortable, which caused some backpain, resulting in having to take painkillers during stay , which resolved a few days on return . Would definitely love to return , bed was lovely & comfortable, would of used that in day if a TV had been in there , due to not being comfortable in lounge .The Garden Room is on the whole a very special place

  • "Overall, the Garden Room was great, good location and a pleasant property."

My only gripe was that the airer over the dining table in the conservatory meant that other people's body hair had dropped on the table. That was a bit grim. This is easily solved by moving the table to the window side of the conservatory and not under the airer. And ensuring that cleaning is thorough obviously. Other than that, I liked the Garden Room very much. Thank you.

  • "Loved our stay at the Garden Room."

Facilities great, comfy bed and our dog loved the garden. The only negative is that the property hadn’t been deep cleaned and wasn’t as clean as I would liked. Crumbs left in cutlery drawer, spiders and cobwebs on lounge wall and in bedroom and shower room and all the ornaments were really dusty. Didn’t use drawers in bedroom as found toenail clipping in top drawer! However we would return there in the future

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Garden Room."

It’s a beautiful apartment, small but perfectly formed . Fully equipped and with plenty of space for us and our Cockapoo . It was very clean and nicely decorated . A big bonus is the nice enclosed garden together with the huge pretty shared garden . The setting is very nice and private in a six apartment barn conversion . Perfect little place . We loved it .

  • "All went very well."

The description and guidance was spot on. Whilst the accommodation isn’t huge we knew that and it was ideal for a couple with a small dog. Nice decor and garden, could possibly do with a touch up on some of the paintwork and the extractor fan seemed to just blow dust in but the key question is would we go back - and we definitely would. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • "The "Garden Room" was a disappointment."

The photos of the property are accurate but do not fairly show its compactness. Storage space in the bedroom is extremely limited. It was stated that there was space in the divan base for suitcases- NO room available there as whole space is taken up with changeover linen and bedding and other storage boxes. The bed itself has a foam mattress which is well passed its best and was very uncomfortable. The shower/WC room is barely fit for purpose. The hand basin is too small, access to the shower is very tight for the average adult and the toilet seat is loose. The underfloor heating was a problem which we never fully got to grips with, thankfully there were additional heaters available. Down lighters on the kitchen work surface and the cooker extractor fan and light were not working. Seating in the living area is very tired and not very comfortable. Black is a very forgiving colour but also hides a lot. All that said the garden and area around is a plus as was the bottle of wine on arrival - it was needed.

I was so very disappointed to read your comments regarding your stay at The Garden Room as I normally receive excellent feedback. I can only apologise that pretty much nothing was to your satisfaction. The lights and extractor were due to a bulb blowing and the heating does appear to be working, though the mattress was new last year I will certainly check it again and I am investigating replacing the washbasin as other customers have commented that it is too small. Again, my apologies that it did not meet your expectations. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of wine and a wide range of "essentials" waiting on our arrival."

Everything was very clean and tidy. The position of the property is really good, with lovely views over towards Exmoor. Given that the weather was very good that week, our being able to sit out in "our garden" or to share the communal gardens (and fruit) was a bonus. The few neighbours that we met were all friendly and helpful. We'd be happy to return some day. One observation: Although decorative and in keeping with the rest of the furniture, the bathroom sink was - for us - somewhat on the small side.

  • "This was our second time stayiat The Green Room."

It was exceptionally clean and really comfortable. Would recommend it for anyone who wants to take their dog, apart from the small enclosed garden there is a communal one. If they are lucky they will get to meet Daisy, a Yorkshire Terrier, who lives there and is delightful Near to the beaches at Blue Anchor and Dunster. Surrounding countryside is breathtaking, well worth getting out and about.

The cottage in on the ground floor with a separate apartment above. Lovely smallish garden with BBQ and the bonus of also a lovely separate garden area of about an acre which is used jointly by the six families that live occupy the site.

  • "This is an old stable and grooms quarters which have been converted into apartments."

The accommodation has been well thought out and tastefully decorated with a lovely private garden. There are also communal gardens to enjoy. There is underfloor heating and electric fire which makes it cosy on cool nights and the shower is nice and hot but isn’t particularly powerful. We thought it would be a good idea to put some more coat hooks in the conservatory area for wet dripping coats. There was black mould on the wall around the window and next to the bed which was a bit off putting. Bearing in mind the nature and age of the building it’s not surprising but not what you want when you’re paying for a holiday. The location is perfect for coastal walks and Blue Anchor beach is an easy walk across the well marked paths through Binham Grange. We walked to Minehead from here along the coastal path and caught the train back to Blue Anchor. The walk to Minehead took about 2 1/4 hours but check tide times first. Overall we enjoyed our accommodation and had a lovely break.

On first glance it all seemed very nice and clean - however having dropped something that rolled under the bed I was horrified. The amount of dust and cobwebs was just awful and not the result of one weeks missed cleaning. We had a leak in the bathroom that was sorted the next day - thanks. But in the process of mopping the floor I was again horrified - the floor was just filthy. The flat was good and my little Border Terrier just loved her own garden and the oppertunity to explore the large garden next door. Would we come back - no. Would we book again with Sykes - probably.

  • "Broken bed."

Caretaker had a look about Wednesday but as the slats had been damaged and were distorted there was nothing he could do to remedy the problem. I was just about able to sleep in the bed by resting on the middle bar. It was impossible for me and partner to sleep in the bed. He had to go home after one night as we were unable to sleep in the bed together. I would have moved out but having 2 dogs on my own this is not a simple task and I haven’t had a holiday for 4 years.

I can only apologise that you felt the bed was uncomfortable and the slats had bent the wrong way - they are now all bending in the correct direction and the bed is again as it should be. I am also sorry that your partner wasn't able to stay past the weekend but pleased that you were able to enjoy the property and local area for the duration of your holiday. Property Owner

About the location

Dunster 3 miles; Lynton 9 miles; Weston-Super-Mare 43 miles.

Blue Anchor is a small coastal hamlet in west Somerset, three miles from medieval Dunster. Well known for its alabaster rocks, which are of great geological interest, Blue Anchor is a quiet and peaceful seaside location with a wide beach, plentiful fossils and a promenade three quarters of a mile long with scenic views of Dunster Castle and Minehead Bay beyond. It offers peaceful relaxation, is popular with anglers who fish off the promenade, and is just a short steam train ride on the West Somerset Railway from Minehead. The Blue Anchor station waiting room and booking office have been lovingly restored, using Great Western fittings, many of them original, and the Railway Museum is housed in the former waiting room. Walk along the beach from Blue Anchor to Dunster, enjoying the views across the channel towards Wales, and wander through the medieval streets with the beautiful castle towering above. Inside the castle are fine plasterwork ceilings, while the extensive terraced and landscaped gardens contain many rare shrubs and trees, and offer marvellous views out to sea. Further afield, Minehead has golden sandy beaches, seaside attractions, and plenty of cafes, shops and bistros.
