  • "We had a wonderful stay at the Captains House with our family."

I wish we could have stayed longer. I was a bit dubious as the last few reviews were not favourable but it was comfortable, clean, my contact with the agency was superb when we forgot our speaker. The kitchen was well stocked with a few nice welcome gifts - I love little touches like this. I was worried about the heating but it was warm when we arrived, on day 2 the heating did not come on but we worked out it was because the thermostat was above an electric heater near the stairs, once we turned that heater off, the heating then kicked in again. Beautifully furnished to a high standard and although it rained, we still enjoyed the outside as the view was spectacular. We sat out there in our umbrellas! Yes, we saw the diggers but that did not stop our enjoyment. Lyme Regis is a great place to visit for all, especially the pubs within walking distance. I would like to stay here again.

  • "We stayed at Captains House last year."

..disappointed patio doors still not easy to open. Also heating wasn't effective...couldn't get towel rails in bathrooms hot so wet towels didn't dry. As thermostat high in kitchen the temperature registering there not reflective of rest of house, so was often cold. Did think more dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls could have been supplied.,as in other self catering properties they generally are, and this is listed as a gold star property. However love the position and Lyme Regis and would book again.

  • "Great location, great facilities in the house, maintenance company was excellent."

However when we arrived the house had a strong smell of damp which was very evident in the front bedroom as our clothes were damp. The gas meter is very noisy at night and kept us awake. Lastly the heating was difficult to control as stat is in wrong place and difficult to operate. We had a great time but these small things spoilt it. Sorry

  • "We booked the last week in August at a premium (6k) price - so we were expecting a really good experience."

The family were delighted with the property and the rooms were comfortable. The small and large lounge areas were a disappointment but the kitchen was very comfortable and a good family area. There were a few niggles with equipment- a broken shower in the downstairs twin bed - a broken coffee maker and missing cork screw. I was mislead by the office about parking - there is one allocated space (for an occupancy of 9) but it is not next to the property but about 500 yds away. The two local car parks were rammed and cost around £22 per 24 hours - an extra £200+ expense. Access by car to the property is difficult so dropping off and picking up were a challenge . We left a day early - one because of the weather and two because of a really strange smell (dead mice?) in the small downstairs lounge area. Overall, I did not think I got good value for the cost involved but nevertheless we had a good time with the family. Lyme is a very interesting town and the beach is fabulous.

The owner maintains the property to a high standard, and leaves a personal welcome hamper for guests to enjoy. We are clear in our marketing that the parking permit is only for one vehicle in the private car park. Guests can drop off/pick-up outside of the property as it is an uphill walk to the public car park. We hope you enjoyed the excellent sea/beach views afforded from the property, and the local facilities on the door step. The Lyme Bay Tean Property Owner

  • "We felt enormously privileged to stay in this property."

Three generations thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Captain’s House. The wonderful weather was an added bonus! We did experience some late night noise disturbance from the local pub and cafe. We feel there should be a “gate” at the top of the stairs leading to the balcony rather than just one at the bottom.

A great family holiday. We did have an issue with the hot water in the showers. I phoned and a man was sent very quickly. Love coming here.

  • "We all had a very enjoyable stay."

The only comments we would make are: Holiday information folder requires updating with reference to waste disposal and heating in sitting room which is now a wood burner with no provision of logs, as stated. These comments do not detract in any way from the lovely time we had together in the wonderful Captain's House. Many thanks.

We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Captains House. We will check with the owner regarding the logs supply, and update if necessary. The property is on a commercial waste collection scheme of commercial bags that are collected on a regular basis. We will double check our instructions to ensure these are clear to guests. • "Lovely property in great location but unfortunately enormous diggers immediately in front of the house moving piles of sand on the closed beach."

We think we ought to have been advised that this was happening during our stay. Also problems with the heating. Front bedroom was too cold to sleep in. Problem with heating reported to Sykes and nothing done. Otherwise, clean and nicely decorated with a well equipped kitchen in a lovely spot overlooking the sea ( and unfortunately the diggers!!)

Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry to hear the beach dredging works had an impact on your enjoyment of the property. We were notified of the works in late February and did send emails to customers to advise of the works so apologies if you didn't see this. We have a local team in Lyme who are always on-hand to respond any issues experienced by guests during their stay, and I will ensure that your comment regarding the heating is followed up. I hope that you get a chance to return to Lyme in the future to enjoy the beach - digger free! Property Owner

We were expecting one of the upstairs rooms to have a king bed rather than the two singles we found on arrival but other than that a brilliant weekend!

Thank you for your feedback and lovely comments, I have just replaced the beds so they can now become a twin or double which can be arranged before arrival. Unfortunately the wrong headboards were send so they did not zip together this has now been rectified. Property Owner

  • "We loved staying at Captains House."

The location of the house is perfect and the view from the living room and on the balcony is amazing. The house itself is in a beautiful condition and the layout of the house really worked well for us. The steps to the balcony are steep but we knew that from all the information, there is a gate at the bottom to stop children going up but I think it would be better if there was one at the top too, we managed to keep our 2 year away but a gate at the top would of made it more worry free. We would stay at Captains House again!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, I have just replaced the handrail and gate at the bottom of the steps, I will look into what we can do at the top. Property Owner

00 the heating was switched off. Is was quite cold. In the small longe off the kitchen the door to outside is warped and doesn’t close properly causing a draught . Needs fixing.

Thank you for providing the feedback for our cottage. Sorry about the heating, it is set to come on at 3pm I am not sure how it got turned off. The doors in the sitting room are next on the list to be replaced. Thank you again for the feedback. Property Owner

  • "Captains house was an exceptional place to stay Location- fantastic Facilities - everthing you needed and more."

A couple of the rooms smelt a bit musty on arrival but soon aired out My only two gripes were: 1. Arrived in the dark and didn’t see the step into property so maybe a sensor light in hallway would have been good. 2. Steps to terrace very steep and slippy when wet so more adequate hand rails could be added. Other than that very comfy, very homely, very cosy and warm.

Thank you for your comments, we have replaced the handrail and gate this winter, I will look into the lighting situation. Property Owner

  • "Overall, the property was ideal for our family holiday due to the size and location."

We are happy to provide constructive feedback and hope that you find it useful. The upstairs bedrooms are of a good size and well equipped, although the option of one of these rooms having the flexibility of being a twin would be very useful. The downstairs twin room is also of a good size and well equipped; the downstairs double is very small and dark in comparison and not ideally located straight off the kitchen diner. All bathrooms are well appointed with good showers. The kitchen diner was OK, but the metal dining chairs are extremely uncomfortable. The fridge freezer is too small, based on the size of the property and worktop space is limited due to the appliances.

Thank you for staying and hope you had a lovely week. We have bought new dining chairs for next year so they will replaced when we have a gap and the fridge freezer will be changed this winter. Unfortunately the downstairs bedroom is small but does have a king size bed as do all the double rooms.thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "Internet is very poor."

We know it is shared between this and next door, Gull Cottage. When both properties are occupied Internet is effectively non existent, For the price of the property I think this would be a reasonable improvement to make. The table and chairs in the kitchen have been replaced, the table is fine but the chairs are most uncomfortable and spoil what used to be a great social centre space for the house. We were lucky the weather was good enough we could sit outside most of the time, it would have been a struggle otherwise. The fridge is not great for the size of house and number of guests. I would like to suggest a small fridge or drinks fridge could be put into the TV room adj to the kitchen to increase cold food storage space in the existing fridge. We have now rebooked for 2023, we hesitated when such a large increase of £900ish was published back in June, now prices seem to have been reduced to a more acceptable level we have happily rebooked. We see prices increase above inflation each year for this property, the first few years we stayed we could see the investment and improvements made so I do hope my suggestions above will be given due consideration. With thanks, Tim

I'm so sorry about the internet we had problems with the line which took far to long to be fixed and have also upgraded so I hope this is better, when fibre reaches the property hopefully we can change asap. The fridge tv's and chairs are on the list to be replaced even with very little income for a year we invested well over £10,000 on furniture and decoration last year. Every year I invest a large part of the profit on upgrading some part of the property i'm sorry you do not feel this has happened recently but hopefully you will see some changes next year. We look forward to welcoming you next year! Property Owner
