  • "We loved this character cottage, which had everything you could possibly need."

We enjoyed using the log burner, very cosy, and It suited us well to have bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs for the not so mobile member of the family. The main bedroom was lovely and big upstairs, with its own shower room. The garden is quite steeply terraced but we enjoyed sitting on the bench looking at the view with a cuppa and enjoying the peace and quiet to read. Having WiFi was a nice touch, which pleased our son! The area was lovely, with ample to see and do. Alison the owner was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

It was very comfortable and cosy and supplied with everything required for a short break. I will be recommending it to friends!

  • "A super cottage, which we think was actually better than the photographs gave it credit for."

It was very well equipped and very clean. The steep garden was super, with stunning views over the estuary - we spent many hours sitting there at all times of the day and night (we were lucky to have great weather)! It is worth emphasising that there is some danger for small children up the steep garden and it could be a challenge to access it with any mobility issues. However, the accessible lower garden does present a very pleasant alternative. There is plenty to do within a close range and the two pubs close-by served good food, but needed to be booked. The ferry to Exmouth was fun, and the local train very useful, both about a mile away.

There was no iron at the property but when I asked Alison, one was delivered straight away. Lovely clean accommodation, everything catered for and nice and comfy.

  • "Lovely cottage which is well equipped and comfortable."

Very spacious, the pictures don't do it justice. Great quiet location and a great base for exploring South Devon. Love The Anchor Inn which is well worth a visit for the seafood platter. Very dog friendly area too.

  • "Lovely location and a well appointed, cosy and attractive cottage."

Nearby are two pubs which served great food and good service. We pre-booked both pubs before our holiday due to COVID restrictions, and the popularity of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. The hill this cottage is on is steep, and so less physically able people should be aware of this, but the steps up into the garden to get the view is worth it! There is a useful flat patio area just outside the back door for those who need it. We would be happy to return.

About the location

COCKWOOD

A couple of miles north east of the town of Dawlish is Dawlish Warren, a mile-long sand spit at the mouth of the River Exe on the stretch of south Devon coastline known as the English Riviera. Dawlish Warren has a selection of shops selling essentials, a golf course and a 55-acre nature reserve, an area of international importance for wildlife, and a roosting site for huge numbers of wading birds and wildfowl that winter on the estuary. The Nature Reserve is also home to more than 450 species of flowering plants including the rare Warren or Sand Crocus. Guided tours around the Reserve are available in the summer season. The beach at Dawlish Warren is a sandy Blue Flag beach backed by sand dunes and small lakes and stretches for miles to reach the Exe Estuary in one direction and Dawlish town in the other. A safe beach, lifeguarded in summer, provides a perfect place for seaside fun, and has many free, open-air events, children's entertainers and spectacular firework and air displays during the summer season. Dawlish Warren has a railway station on the Exeter to Newton Abbot line, one of the most scenic railway journeys in the country. Nearby there is much to occupy the visitor along the English Riviera coastline including Paignton Zoo, the Dartmouth Steam Railway, the picturesque fishing harbour of Brixham and the long pier and promenade at Teignmouth. A typically English seaside resort, great for family holidays at any time of year.
