Lots of room to spread out and relax and take in the breathtaking ever changing view of the Exe estuary. This comfy and well kept bungalow is an amazing base from which to explore all that South Devon and Dartmoor has to offer. After a long day exploring it’s the perfect home to come back to and chill whilst the sun sets. The garden is huge which is perfect for the kids and four legged friends. We love this place so much we booked for next year after only been here for a day. We keep coming back year after year and never tire of this lovely house and it’s beautiful location.

Grandparents, parent and young grandchildren all had a lovely week despite the weather not being the best. Tideways has so much space, inside and out, and fabulous views over the estuary, the photos do not do it justice. Lots of places to visit and things to do not too far away. Hope to come back sometime.

  • "The bungalow is very large and spacious and has stunning views of the harbour."

There are bifold doors in the lounge which open on to a seating area to sit and watch the boats come and go. The front of the bungalow is steep and has steps to the front door so may not be suitable for disabled people or people with walking difficulties.

I am pleased you enjoyed the views. Some people decide to use the entrance through the bi-fold doors at the back if they have walking difficulties. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

The view across the Exe Estuary from the front of the bungalow is just so good and there’s always something going on to watch, whatever the weather. The gardens were back to their best again this year too. The bungalow is spacious inside with all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay and I can’t speak highly enough of the owner who is very helpful & friendly if you need to contact her. The only problem with Tideways is that you have to leave ……. until next time !

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Tideways and enjoyed the coastal scenery. Property Owner

  • "Very Comfortable with Stunning Views!"

Stayed here the first 3 weeks of May whilst working locally. The back garden is gorgeous, very large and relaxing with a nice patio area. The views across the harbour out to sea at the front of the house are absolutely stunning! The beds were very comfy, and enjoyed barefoot luxury on the new carpets. Everything was lovely for a stay, except for the cleaning. Whilst the carpets were hoovered, bed lines changed and fresh towels laid out, that's where it ended. The oven was filthy inside, lots of food spills - all of which I cleaned on arrival from previous guests. Microwave looked like food exploded in it - all which I cleaned again from previous guests. The front of the kitchen cupboards were sticky and needed a good wipe down, there were splash marks all over the wall next to the dishwasher which I tried to scrub off but to no avail. There were obvious dog hairs on the conservatory furniture and I didn't even have a dog with me! They were clearly from previous guests. Cobwebs in the main bathroom shower area, ring marks from cups on bedroom furniture, and a wet used shower mat in the main bathroom too when I arrived as if it was there from previous guests. For the high price paid, I expect very high standards of cleanliness, spotlessly clean! This was disappointing. Whilst I would definitely consider staying again for the location, large garden, stunning views, and comfort, the lack of very high standard cleaning would make me reconsider. The owner however was helpful and responsive when I reported a broken glass patio panel on the front porch which was promptly removed for safety reasons.

I am pleased that you reviewed your holiday however I understood from your initial text "What a lovely home!. Gorgeous views ! We can't wait to unwind and relax during our stay." that you were happy "I am sorry that you did not telephone or e-mail me or Sykes so that I could arrange for the cleaner to rectify your concerns about the standard of cleaning. • "Stunning views due to the location of the property."

Loath to drawer curtains, as the view of the Exe estuary, towards Exmouth, was always changing and so picturesque at night with all the lights. Very comfortable seating in the main room, and the bed extremely comfortable. Downside, and we may just have been unlucky, but dog hairs very apparent on one of the seats in the conservatory and the cleaning generally left a little to be desired, which we did report to the owner, so hopefully would not be an ongoing issue. However, due to the location and views, and the property being so comfortable, we would certainly return when we can.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the dog hairs and the fridge. The cleaner has dealt with these issues and I don't expect this to be a problem in the future. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay in Cockwood. Property Owner

  • "The location of the property is brilliant with lots of places to visit within a short distance."

As others have said, the views are spectacular. We stayed in early September and were blessed with good weather so we were able to sit on the front terrace soaking up the views in glorious sunshine. The back garden is huge and well maintained. It is completely enclosed and even our adventurous Cocker Spaniel could not find a way to escape! The property itself is large and spacious and although we travelled as a couple, it would be plenty big enough for a family of 6. We did feel that the property is a bit old fashioned, tired looking and in need of a bit of TLC. The seal on the window in the smallest bedroom has blown so the window was permanently steamed up, the furniture in the master bedroom is very chipped and marked and some of the paintwork needs touching up. Other than in the bathrooms, there is only one mirror in the house and that was not near to a socket for drying your hair. We did contact the owner who arranged for an extension cable to be delivered the day after we arrived which solved the issue for us but did not alter the fact that there was only a mirror in the ensuite bedroom. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the property when we arrived. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, we also noticed the mass of dog hairs on one of the sofas in the conservatory. We had to deep clean the bathrooms before we felt we could use them and there were a number of cobwebs throughout the house which had not been cleaned away. We did report the issues to the owner who was prepared to get the cleaner to come in but we did not want to waste a day of our holiday waiting for the cleaners to come back. Finally, there is a file containing various instruction books but no general information about the property or the area. The weather was warm during our stay but there were no instructions about how to operate the heating should it have been needed. Overall, a lovely property with plenty of potential but we feel it needs some money spending on it to get it up to the standard it deserves for the money being charged.

It’s spacious, comfortable and beautifully clean. It was well equipped with all you would need for a relaxing break. The garden is huge and safely enclosed to allow your four legged friend to run around. Owner was helpful texting before arrival with instructions and guidance and there was lots of information waiting for us when we arrived to help us with all the facilities in the house. And finally there’s the view, you don’t need to watch TV here just sit back, relax and watch the ever changing scenery of the unspoilt Exe estuary view. So great we’ve booked to come again in October.

Lots of room in the cottage to spend time together with your group or get quiet time elsewhere. The garden is huge and we used the patio area lots! Lovely village with 2 fabulous pubs (both are great for food but do book ahead) within easy walking distance (though the hills are steep)! Beautiful view from the house. We got the bus from near the Anchor Inn to Exeter, walked to Starcross to get the ferry across to Exmouth, walked to the beach at Dawlish Warren and drove to Torquay, Brixham and several places along the jurassic coast. It's in a great position to see so many sights across Devon and into Cornwall or Dorset. The home owner messaged to check everything was okay and sorted out any issues immediately. Great service.

  • "We had a really relaxing stay at Tideways, the bungalow was incredibly spacious and had all the facilities we required."

The dog had a great time running around the large and fully enclosed back garden. The main selling point of this property however is the incredible view, I’m not sure why it isn’t emphasised more in the listing, you can sit and watch it for hours as with the tides and boats etc it is constantly changing. The only disappointment of the stay is that the local pubs were booked up for food whilst we were there, so if you want to try them book ahead as they’re very popular.

It is in a great location for exploring. We visited babbacombe, teignmouth and dawlish which were all only a short drive away.
