It has a lovely homely feeling and is a great space for families to get together especially with the separate villa. The garden is so pretty and with the brook at the bottom off the garden it’s really relaxing. There is a massive space for parking and secure gates so it’s safe for kids and dogs. The artful dodger pub near the house is not great but The dolphin inn less than a mile away is nice for food and has a good selection of drinks. We walked to Torquay harbour (just over 2 miles) then got the 35A bus back for £6.60 per family. Bargain. The bbq area referred to in the description is literally an area not a bbq so you’ll need to take a portable or disposable bbq with you. It’s a nice space to have a bbq though with plenty of seating and tables outside. The owners and the managers are both lovely and very helpful. If I was trying to think of something that could improve it I’d say there’s not much storage upstairs in the house so we were living out of our bags a bit. If we hadn’t already got plans for next Easter I would have booked again for next year. We’ll definitely be back.

The property

This charming period property sits in a secluded haven of tranquillity, yet just 1 mile from Babbacombe beach.

With brook, water feature, and fishpond, along with the Torbay palms that give the garden a Mediterranean feel.

A beautifully unique accommodation, with quirky rooms and separate garden villa, make this property an ideal for one or two groups of families or friends keen to explore this scenic region of Devon.

The local shop and pub are both just 5 minutes walk, and it’s a short stroll further, to reach the idyllic areas of St Marychurch and Babbacombe, great for their selections of cafes, bars, bakeries and corner shops.

From Coombe Lane, the house is hidden away behind a private driveway designed for parking for 2 cars.

The main house boasts a country-style kitchen, with a lovely breakfast area, perfect for early risers to gather for a hearty meal before stepping out to discover the local area.

With exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling, you get a true sense of the character of this 16th century property.

Off from the kitchen is the bright and airy conservatory, creating harmony with the peaceful garden and overlooking the garden villa.

Likely to be used as both the main dining space and relaxing lounge area, this room with it’s lovely furnishings and feature wall, complement the style of this house, making you feel right at home.

A good sized snug/sitting room, rests just beyond the conservatory, where you can relax, unwind and warm your toes by the wood-burning stove.

The ground floor also plays host to a delightful twin bedroom with en suite wet room, hidden just behind the kitchen, this bedroom is perfectly situated for a late night snack or two.

You also have a ground floor quirky family bathroom, enjoying a roll top bath tub and rain shower.

Climb the carpeted staircase from the lounge to find an elegant four poster bedroom and further good-sized double/twin with pleasant views, whilst the self-contained garden villa, boasts a double room with an extra double sofa bed for alternative sleeping, in the living area.

This additional space is perfect for a couple or group of four, benefiting a lovely open-plan living room and fitted kitchen.

Beyond lies, the third bathroom, complete with roll-top bath and rain shower.

Neatly hidden in the armoire the living room also houses a games console and wealth of DVDs to choose from.

Access to the villa is via the lower garden or its own private entrance down a steep, but well-lit set of steps.

The gardens are a real delight, having been skillfully designed to incorporate a lawn, raised flower beds, and water feature.

A few steps lead down from the main house to a quaint little bridge over the water feature and on the lower level, a well-maintained stream.

Enjoy a balmy afternoon on the main veranda or in the barbecue area (in close proximity to the kitchen) for a relaxed dining experience.

The villa also has it own private shaded terrace.

You will feel completely at rest among this oasis of serenity, sheltered beneath the Torbay Palms with the sounds of the water feature trickling in the background.

The Torquay Golf Course is also close by, as is the Babbacombe Model Village and famous cliff-top railway.

Torquay itself offers a wide range of activities, with three shopping centres, coastal walks, thriving nightlife and numerous places to eat and drink.

Spend a day at Paignton Zoo with the kids or head to Kents Cavern to experience an underground network of prehistoric caves.

Try a plethora of water sports and stroll beside the harbour to glimpse colourful boats making their way to and fro from the bay.

A stunning cottage for a memorable holiday together in Devon!
