The property

The Old Smithy is a heart-warming thatched cottage nestled in the heart of the Blackdown Hills AONB.

Set all on the ground floor and having been lovingly converted from a smithy building, this is a wonderful retreat for a romantic getaway.

Set on the owner's farm, enter this alluring wooden clad cottage and be drawn in by a well-presented open-plan living area, enhanced by an uplifting vaulted ceiling with attractive exposed beams.

A snug two-seater sofa rests amongst the warmth of the electric fire, along with a TV, SkyQ, to make a lovely spot to kick back and relax at the end of an adventure-filled day.

A delightful dining table rests nearby, while two steps up lead you into a modern and well-equipped kitchen which is dominated by the smithy's fabulous original fireplace.

Before yet another memorable day of exploring this part of Devon, recharge your batteries in the tasteful bedroom boasting a super king-size zip/link bed.

Lying adjacent is a large, luxurious wet room allowing you to get ready for each day in exquisite style.

To the front of this charming cottage is a serene patio which proves to be an ideal spot to sit and enjoy your morning coffee, or perhaps an evening glass of wine or two.

Just four miles away is the delightful town of Honiton, a market town which displays a wealth of amenities along with a series of historical landmarks to wander around and admire.

Avid walkers will relish the engulfing Blackdown Hills AONB, as a multitude of paths and trails are available just steps from the doorstep of this home-from-home.

About the location

HONITON

Ottery St Mary 6 miles; Lyme Regis 14.5 miles; Exeter 22 miles.

Honiton is a delightful market town in East Devon, with plenty to offer visitors. It lies in the valley of the River Otter and is surrounded by rolling Devon hills, green wooded valleys and plenty of scattered farming villages. Honiton has an attractive High Street stretching almost 2 miles, and lined with individually owned shops, pubs and restaurants. Honiton has been famous for lacemaking since the reign of Elizabeth I and still has a few lacemakers in work today - visitors can see some fine examples of antique lace in the town’s Allhallows Museum. Honiton boasts the only public art gallery in East Devon; the Thelma Hulbert Gallery occupies an attractive Grade I listed Victorian house, and has links with the Hayward Gallery, London. Honiton is only a short drive from the dramatic 20 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site. Resorts such as Seaton, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth are found along this stretch of coastline, and all have much to occupy the visitor. Near to Honiton is the cathedral city of Exeter with plenty of large shops, a wealth of museums, a theatre and fabulous restaurants.
