  • "Fantastic property for a family holiday."

The owner has thought of everything you may need. Plenty of space inside and outside for everyone to enjoy. Great communication with owner before arrival.

  • "The house was a perfect place for two families to stay."

Three sitting rooms; plenty of bedrooms; modern kitchen with all facilities, wonderful garden and views, big TV, lots of hot water, plenty of parking, easy walk down to Tiverton, games, books, dog friendly etc. Lucy was a delight to deal with and made it all so easy.

Dear Edward thank you for this fantastic feedback. It is great to hear you found the house so suitable for your family. It was a pleasure to help reassure you that things you needed were available! We hope you will be able to come to the house again sometime soon. With best wishes Lucy Property Owner

  • "Generic response from Sykes on our arrival day: if we'd had a serious problem, we would have been in trouble."

The owners were very quick to respond and lovely to deal with. We weren't allowed into the property until 5. By the time we'd unpacked, Sykes automatic system had started and we were left to navigate a very large staircase in the dark. Once I spoke to the owner, it was easy to get the steps and change the bulb. We were lucky no one fell down the stairs on the first night or that it wasn't a major power failure/flood: if it was, then you're on your own. WhatsApp is not an emergency solution.

  • "The Old Vicarage is a real gem."

It oozes charm, nostalgia and romance. As well as the Bluthner piano in the music room there are other musical touches throughout the house which made it an ideal venue to play chamber music with friends. It is a wonderful base from which to explore the surrounding beautiful area. Nine of us enjoyed the most incredible time and we are sure to visit again. Thank you to Lucy for her very warm supportive contact by email.

Thanks for bringing live music back to the house! We are so happy you enjoyed the house and thank you for this lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back soon! Property Owner

  • "Fantastic property with lots of old worldcharm and modern conveniences."

All the rooms are spacious and well kept. A pleasure’s to spend time in the beautiful gardens with lovely views over the town. We all appreciated the property and gardens. Thank you x Just 2 points, there is no wardrobe in one of the bedrooms so nowhere to hang clothes and we couldnt find a first aid kit when needed, otherwise fantastic.

Thank you so much for this review. We are so glad you enjoyed the house and the views. I am sorry you could not find the first aid kit. When I checked recently it was in the dresser drawer in the kitchen. I will have a look for it, and replace it. The wardrobe is more tricky to fix as we need to move the third piano downstairs to create the space in that room. I am so sorry this lack of hanging space was inconvenient for you. We do hope to welcome you back to the Old Vicarage. Property Owner

Gardens and view were lovely. Part of the reason we chose this house was because of the grand piano and it was a real treat to be able to play this all week. The book collection was pretty epic too!

Thank you for this lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed playing the piano as well as the gardens and the house. There are so many books, and we hope all our visitors find some that interest them! Sometimes it can be good to find a quiet space, and the house does give you lots of options. Do come again! ”. The Old Vicarage is (very) spacious, full of character and has an exceedingly well equipped kitchen. The garden is “outrageously big” (quoting one child who spent many hours playing in it), enclosed and safe for children to roam in. The views are magnificent and we even managed to get a glimpse of the Milky Way from the garden one night. The owner was communicative, helpful and responsive when we had queries. Thanks Lucy, we will be looking for an opportunity to stay again!

  • "We had a lovely family holiday here."

The space is amazing with plenty of entertainment for us all. It was a home from home with every comfort provided, well equipped kitchen, games and large garden. Even in hot weather the house was cool. There are a few drawbacks, only one bedroom is en suite so all 8 others had to share a single bathroom & 2 loos. The access to the garden would be difficult for anyone disabled. The garden could have had a bit more shade. But none of this spoiled our pleasure in the property. We had a wonderful stay and recommend it highly.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at the house and found it cool in the hot weather we have experienced recently. We are having a new shower room fitted downstairs in November. This will provide a total of three bathrooms, plus one separate loo. You would be most welcome to return to the Old Vicarage for another stay. Property Owner

  • "The old vicarage was a wonderful property."

We all enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfy. The bathrooms were spacious and showers were good. The kitchen was well equipped and I was easily able to cook a couple of meals. The only criticism is that the kitchen was not so clean. The splash back, work tops and grill was dirty & I needed to clean them before use. The bin drawer was very dirty so we used a bin liner attached to a drawer handle. This is first holiday cottage we have stayed in that didn’t have a hair dryer or bbq…. The garden was perfect for our dogs. The outdoor dining table and chairs meant we could have meals outside. It would have been lovely if there had been a couple of sun loungers to recline on ….

Thanks so much for your feedback. We are glad you snd your dogs enjoyed your stay. We can only apologise for the problems with the cleaning. We had to let that cleaning company go, and are delighted now that Helen and Taz leave the Old Vicarage clean and ready for our guests. We do have hairdryers now so thanks for recommending this to us. I am afraid we do not have a BBQ. Guests are welcome to use disposable ones if they wish. Property Owner

Not only are you spoilt with so much space (huge bedrooms and multiple reception rooms) but the gardens and views are just gorgeous too. We were a family of six adults, two under 2s and two dogs and you could still find a quiet spot to hide yourself away. We had a blast. Tiverton is an easy stroll away to explore, not that you need to as the house and garden is so great to spend time in. Getting in was super easy and everything had clearly just been beautifully cleaned - and the little welcome basket and note was a lovely touch. The owners were a real pleasure to deal with too. Highly recommend this beautiful house.

About the location

Crediton 12 miles; Exeter 14 miles; Taunton 21 miles.

The largest town in Mid Devon, visit Tiverton for echoes of the past including a romantic castle, and horse-drawn barge trips on the idyllic Grand Western Canal. Occupying a strategic position on two rivers, the Exe and the Lowman, brought Tiverton wealth as a flourishing textile town, resulting in many fine buildings. These include the Jacobean Great House of St. George, three medieval almshouses, and the fantastic parish church of St. Peter with its remarkable frieze of merchant vessels with billowing sails. Another famous building is Old Blundells, immortalised by former pupil R.D. Blackmore in his classic Lorna Doone. However, the town's most famous building is beautiful Tiverton Castle, a royal fortress commissioned in 1106 by Henry I. Find out more about Tiverton's rich heritage at award-winning Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, with 14 galleries of exhibits including the Tivvy Bumper GWR locomotive.
