  • "Sykes & Coast & Country failed to reply to my emails about the after-hours key collection."

After two phone calls I was eventually given the wrong code. This is very poor customer service. The external repairs being carried out spoiled our enjoyment of the property. The property needs a thorough clean & redecoration in places.

  • "We stayed at 22 Dart Marina last year and had a very peaceful holiday, hence booking again this year."

Several weeks before our holiday was due I saw a review about scaffolding and was concerned. I sent an email asking the question if scaffolding would be up during our holiday as if it was I would cancel. I suffer from anxiety and this holiday was to help with that. The reply was there shouldn’t be any. I again asked as Contractors and scaffolding have to be booked in advance so they should have an idea. They said there may be scaffolding but if there was they would notify us in advance. We arrived early at the apartment and saw scaffolding on the side of the building but obviously couldn’t see to the front. When we got the keys and went in we were horrified. Scaffolding was at the side of the bay window restricting part of the view into Dartmouth and was very unsightly. We picked this apartment as there are two swivel chairs in the window for you to sit and admire the view. The scaffolding was literally 6 inches from the window. I telephoned the office and was told ‘but it only restricted part of the view’ which was not helpful. On the Monday morning as we were sat having our breakfast 3 workmen arrived and came on to the scaffolding through the hatch next to the window. They couldn’t help but look through the window at us. They made several trips up and down the ladder with equipment. I rang the number provided and got through to the Chester office (Sykes holidays) I was very upset about the attitude of the phone call. The lady said they had told us there may be scaffolding and what am I wanting. I told her they had only answered my question and they definitely didn’t fulfil their promise in letting us know beforehand. They said they only had a day’s notice. My sister went to speak to the workmen and they said the scaffolding had been up a week and they had been booked in for the job. In the end I was so upset and stressed my husband took the call. He had the same response and asked why they hadn’t told us there WAS scaffolding not there may be. In the end he came off the phone not getting anywhere. I immediately sent an email with photos to which I am still waiting for a reply. Looking at the 1 star reviews I won’t be getting a reply. Also sent to Coast and Country. I received an acknowledgement stating terms and conditions of booking. On re-reading the terms and conditions I noted it says they are not responsible for any noise or building work on neighbouring properties. The work is being carried out on the property not on a neighbours. We stayed out all day hoping the workmen had gone when we got back and they hadn’t. During the week we were having to get up early and dressed before they arrived at 9.00 a.m. and stay out all day. Not conducive of the relaxing holiday we were hoping for. I have sent numerous emails and not received any feedback yet. By Thursday we had had enough and came home a day early. We handed the keys in at the Dartmouth office early afternoon and briefly told the lady. She looked on the computer at our account. She said she wasn’t aware as she had been working from home last week. We came home Thursday and on Friday morning my husband received a call at about 10.50 asking when we were going to hand the keys in. Obviously this didn’t go down well as we had not received one call during our stay about our complaint. I did write a letter to the owner and left it with her post in the apartment. Hopefully we will get a reply from this. There was an entry in the Visitors Book saying they were an infirm couple who booked it for the view and the holiday was ruined by the scaffolding in June/July. The website states that external decoration is being carried out on the Dart Marina complex from April to August 2021 which incidentally is right at the bottom of the page and obviously inaccurate. As I write this I am still awaiting a response.

The only negatives were that the toaster didn't work properly and we did notice that this had been reported before and it would appear that the same toaster is still in the kitchen! and there were lots of cobwebs around the curtain rail.

  • "The Negatives 1."

The toaster didn't work 2. Pillow protectors missing (four in bed 2) and (one in bed 1) 3. Dishwasher had not been emptied 4. Dirty crockery in cupboard 5. Need to supply more matching crockery and glassware The Positives 1. Apartment had been nicely upgraded from previous visits 2. Still lovely location and amazing views 3. Coast and Country staff very helpful

  • "It does not work having customer relations in Chester who take thirty minutes to answer and then have no local knowledge."

We should have been given a number to telephone the old coast and country office who were always more than helpful in the past. You sent an email telling us that there was to be scaffolding around the property which never materialised. It took two long phone calls to get an email saying we would be entitled to compensation should there be scaffolding. In the past coast and country would have telephoned us and the matter would have been resolved instantly. It is a great shame that you have swallowed up a local business and not kept a human touch.

  • "Everything was spot on and we really enjoyed the flat and the stay however there is one thing that we feel we should mention and that is that the pillows in the two bedrooms only had one pillow protector between them, now we think that they should have them normally but particularly in the present climate and hygiene standards."

Apart from that no complaints it was all lovely and when we popped into the office to say a couple of lamps were gone they were replaced the same day within a couple of hours, so excellent. Kind regards Tony Hampton

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, it is very much appreciated. We apologise for the lack of pillow protectors, there should have been enough for all pillows and this is something that will be corrected. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

We loved watching the boats on the estuary all day. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. We did feel though that this fabulous property was let down by the quality of the bedding. The pillows & duvets were very old, worn and of a poor quality, as was the bedding. Overall though we had a brilliant week and would definitely return!

Coast and Cottage responded quickly and professionally whenever we had a problem. The only area that could have been better was the provision of the linen service and the cleaning of the kitchen and bathroom.

  • "The welcome pack is useful but it only provides basic materials, dishwasher tablets, refuse sacks, etc."

for a one week stay. If you are staying for longer, as we were, then it would be appropriate to provide at least another pack. You are still showing on your website that the apartment has Sky TV whereas it does not. This has been pointed out to you previously but no amendment has been made to your publicity material. Apart from these two issues everything else was fine and our return stay in this apartment was most enjoyable

  • "Beautiful apartment with delightful views of the estuary."

Great location and Dartmouth our favourite town in the area. Very clean and tidy and well stocked for our one week stay. Good complex with pop-up bar in the next door hotel grounds and good to use their spa too (a little small). Weather was great and apartment was always hot so good to be able to open the bi-folds and sit in the bay window watching the steam trains, ferry and boats on the Dart. Only quibble was that some of the tech could have been better e.g. it doesn’t have Sky TV despite the listing saying to the contrary, and couldn’t seem to get bluetooth to work (old type dock). Overall though, would recommend.

  • "The apartment was superb - even more spacious than it looked on the website and with a really stunning view over the river."

We spent many happy hours sitting, in comfort, in the bay window, being entertained by the boats, steam trains and even the occasional naval exercise. The apartment was very clean, the beds comfortable and the bathrooms were particularly spacious and of a very high standard. The location is ideal - very quiet, yet everything is on your doorstep. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing holiday and will definitely return!

  • "Wow is the words we used when we entered this property."

The view is to die for, the apartment is pretty good too. We were disappointed, considering the amount of money we were paying) that there were no coat hangers (9 in the master bedroom)in the second bedroom. The oven was a little awkward to use (being so low down). Not a major problem as we ate out most of the time. The beds were really comfortable and the toiletries in both bathrooms were a nice touch. Will we go back - you bet.

  • "We just love the apartments at the Dart Marina and will continue to return."

No 22 was beautifully equipped and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We enjoycoming to Dartmouth and especially the apartments with their fabulous views, you just can sit and watch the river and marina activity all day. The L shaped sofa was perhaps a little hard and not particularly comfy but that's maybe being picky and I don't want to be picky as it was a very relaxing and otherwise faultless stay. The bed was really luxurious and comfortable. A real home from home.

About the location

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
