  • "A lovely clean place to stay with everything you need."

The market opposite was good, as was the little Broadstone Cafe on the corner of Broadstone and Foss St. Only a short walk down the road to the River front and transport on Boats, Trains and Buses available The parking is okay if you have a mini or something of a very similar size as very tight and many attempts to get in and out with a larger car. I suggest parking on the street outside No7 if you can (we weren't able to as another car was permanently parked there). It doesn't mention anything about parking in the Market carpark which is free but to our Surprise got a parking ticket £70 or £35 if you pay within 28 day's. No mention that you need a parking permit. It would nice to be given an option of a parking permit to use in this carpark. Faults found on arrival. Bath panel was cracked Shower curtain needs to be renewed as very old and has evidence of mould spots. Basin plug chain broken. Blind slat in Front bedroom is broken it has been snapped. Otherwise a very pleasant place to stay and would stay here again.

Hi Susan, Thank you for bringing the faults to our attention. We really appreciate you taking the time. We have sent a replacement shower curtain to the agents to replace on next day delivery. We are visiting ourselves next week, so will look into the other concerns. We did look into a parking permit for guests. Unfortunately it covers the Mayors Car Park, not the one in the Market Square. Also it is no guarantee of a space, especially in busy times. The Market Square car park is free and unlimited on days there isn’t a market on. On those days the CP needs to be clear between 6am & 9am for market traders to park. I’m sorry you were caught out by it, it is on the signs but not awfully clear. Hopefully future guests will read this and not get caught out. I’ll look into a note in the cottage suggesting guests check the parking sign. As you say, the on street parking in the Market Square is free and unlimited. Hopefully you will stay again. Kind regards, Sally Property Owner

  • "The cottage itself is perfect."

It's in an ideal spot for getting around Dartmouth and seeing the sights plus the place is fresh and clean. It really is a lovely home for your holiday but there is a negative!! Parking! If you read the details of the cottage it isn't until right at the end of lots of information where it mentions what size car is best !! However, there is no clear point of how narrow the road is behind the house to turn into the parking space , which it is. I drive a fiesta and the mirrors just missed the sides. After carefully driving out of the space for a day out, I was fortunate to park in the front of the house and left it there! This point really needs to be made much clearer in the information.

  • "7 Charles Street is a delightful 2 bed cottage in Dartmouth on Market Square, just about as central as you could get in Dartmouth."

It has all the facilities you need to enjoy a great stay in Dartmouth and is ideal for a couple or small family. It's the third time I've stayed there and I'm pretty fussy so it must be good! Happy to recommend.

  • "We love 7 Charles Street, this is our 6th or 7th visit."

A couple of things which may prevent us booking the property again and none of these are the property fault, I have had a hip replacement within the last 5 months and found the bed to hard to sleep on, we used the other quilt in the 2nd bedroom as a mattress topper to make it a little softer, I found it difficult this time to get in and out the bath for the shower so we will be looking for a walk in shower next. Like I said neither these two things are the property's fault, it was smart and ultra clean and a perfect location as always. I would like to just say that we have been coming to Dartmouth for the last 14 years, but we would have to reconsider coming again next year because of the cost, we paid £30.40 for 2 fish and 1 portion of chips and a pot of curry sauce from rockfish! also 2 pints of beer from the George and Dragon £12.80!! with a lot of the shops closing down unless Dartmouth do something about the cost of food etc a lot of people we be finding another holiday venue unfortunately.

The cottage is in a great location, was very clean & had everything we needed. The beds in particular were very comfortable. I didn’t attempt to park in the space as my car is a little larger but found a space in the market square opposite or on surrounding streets. We loved Dartmouth & would stay here again if we return. Thank you!

  • "7 Charles Street was a lovely little house right in the centre of town, and only 2 minutes walk from the harbour and quayside."

The rear courtyard with a private parking space was fantastic as it meant we didn’t have to worry about parking throughout our stay. The only problem we had was the lock on the door jammed during our stay, I called Coast & Country who sent someone round to fix it straight away. Highly recommended.

It came as a suprise to find that in fact the courtyard was a common space shared with the adjacent cottage. Don't recall seeing that mentioned in the cottage description. However, the interior of the cottage was very clean and decorated to a high standard.

Unfortunately parking problems come with the territory of popular holiday destinations. The house was ideally situated in the main part of town, near to shops, eating places and transport and we had a very pleasant week despite some chilly and some wet times.

Presumably a cost for this was built into the cost of the holiday. We haven't been offered any compensation. Also had to pay extra for the week in September. Our holiday was originally booked at the end of March but we were unable to go because of lockdown.

Extremely tight car parking. We parked on the street after great difficulty getting out. We damaged the car paintwork in process. It should be made clear in the description of the cottage that parking is only suitable for small cars. The cottage next door was in use. There is certainly no room for two cars to be parked in the court yard to manoeuvre and get out.

  • "This was our 3rd stay at this property so in fairness there was little to surprise us."

However we would like to confirm our comments to your staff and add one other small point. Firstly tho its worth saying that the property is very nice and very well located for the town. We mentioned to the staff that altho we knew that its impossible to get anything larger than, say, a mini along the rear passage and into the rear yard its disappointing that this is not made clear in the property details. We were fortunate this year in that we found, almost straight after arrival, a parking space right outside the front door and because we didn't use the ca=r at all till we left there was no problem in this respect. In previous years we have used the car a lot so that would have been a problem. A Mayor's car park pass would be good, even if a small charge was made for those who wanted to use it. We found the seating/table area at the back of the house really disappointing. It was scruffy, unattractive eg no trellis/flowers and untidy and would not encourage anyone to use it. That was a pity because in the nice weather it would be nice to have breakfast or evening drinks for example outside. As ever Cosat and Country staff were really nice and very efficiently had a small problem with the central heating quickly fixed

The location is superb due to being in the centre of Dartmouth, just a few minutes walk from the quayside, shops and restaurants. This was great for us because we travelled to the places we wanted to go to by ferry and steam train. The drawback for us was the parking space. This is at the back of the property via a narrow lane. We have a medium size car but still needed help to get in and out, though one of our helpers said he had seen people driving through in 4x4s....

Apart from the fact that seagulls are constantly circling and leaving their mark(!), the yard is pretty unattractive and not a pleasant space to sit. About the location

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.
