  • "Our holiday was made all the better by being here at Amberley."

We will definitely be back! Many Thanks. We have had a lovely week at Amberley. The House is well Equipped, very comfortable and well located. (despite the killer hill we had to walk from the town back to the house!) The weather has been hit and miss but we didn't let it spoil our holiday. Some lovely places to try are Buckfast butterfly farm and Dartmoor otter sanctuary, Babbacombe model village, The Chilli farm in Kingsbridge, Brixham and a must is a boat trip up the river dart from Dartmouth. We have eaten lovely meals at the seahorse, Bushell's and rockfish in Dartmouth and Brittania at the beach in Kingsbridge. All amazing.

  • "This is a lovely house for a holiday home, very well equipped and very comfortable, also well placed for the town and facilities, views of the river and passing steam trains are charming."

We did have a minor problem at the house, but this was dealt with promptly and with no hassles.

  • "We found Amberley clean, comfy, spacious exactly as described including a lovely garden and easy parking."

The walk into town both up and down did not present a problem it was a good way to keep fit and tire the kids! We we're let down with our original choice of property but have no regrets whatsoever with our 2nd choice so much so we have already booked Amberley again for 2 weeks next year. Dartmouth is a lovely place to holiday, one of our party rated the whole holiday as possible the best ever.

Dear Mrs M, Thank you for your generous feedback. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Amberley and hope you enjoy your next visit even more. Jim and Mary. Property Owner

Loved the walk into town and finding new ways there and back every time. The garden is great for sitting out in the sun. Lots of great walks nearby so you dont have to drive far to find them. Thank you to the lady in the Dartmouth office who was very helpful and friendly when we called in with a query.

  • "A gate from the garden to the top road would be helpful - to provide walking access to JS etc."

It was along, hilly way round otherwise.

Several guests have suggested a gate from the garden to the adjacent road but unfortunately this is not possible for two reasons. Firstly, behind the wooden fence is a wall which is owned by Devon Highways and was there long before the houses were built.it is a retaining wall to separate the road from what was originally an old orchard. Secondly, there is no pavement on either side of that road and with limited visibility to the right it would be very dangerous to exit the garden that way. If you do catch the bus up, it is possible to walk down College Way for 150 or so yards and then take a cut through to Redwalls Close. While this would still have some uphill walking, it would halve the amount of uphill walk. Property Owner

Perfekt wäre es, wenn es einen Ausblick auf den Hafen hätte und nicht ganz so hellhörig wäre, aber das ist jammern auf hohem Niveau. Besser direkt bei Sykes buchen, über Casamundo war es deutlich teurer.

Dear Guests ( I have been told not to use names) We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay in Dartmouth and at Amberley. Thank you for your kind feedback. • "This is our favourite holiday property in Dartmouth and we've stayed several times before."

It's spacious and comfortable with easy parking. It's a steep walk down into town that feels steeper on the way back! But you can always get the bus. We enjoy the walk and I'm sure it does us good. The walk down Browns Hill is a hidden gem of Dartmouth - a winding picturesque cobbled alley with wide steps between pretty properties bursting with plants and flowers in pots and overhanging walls. You're only a short drive from supermarkets and petrol at the top of the hill but there isn’t a shop nearby so you just have to plan. It's a quiet and relaxing house and neighbourhood, away from the screeching seagulls you get nearer the harbour. We're already looking forward to our next stay!

We are very grateful to all the lovely guests that have given Amberley such pleasant feedback over the years. On the occasional instances of critical feedback we have tried to rectify the issues where possible but sometimes they are due to services etc that we are not responsible for and Coast and Country are very responsive to any such issues. We like to give a small “token” of our appreciation to our returning guests and if you have not had anything waiting on arrival please contact C & C. Property Owner

This is a lovely home from home! The detached house is well equipped and can't think of anything else that might be needed / required. Beautiful garden to sit outside on the days when you just want to chill! There is also a much appreciated parking space for two cars. Lovely walk into town, but be aware it really is a steep uphill walk back! Though you can get a bus part the way back or a taxi. The staff at Coast and Country holidays offer an exemplary service ~ always polite, efficient and helpful. A minor issue on the first day re lack of bath towels (an omission) was resolved within 5 minutes, literally! We love Amberley so much we have already booked again to stay next year!

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Dartmouth, but the house was lacking slightly from what we have rented before on skykes."

The small brown sofa was very uncomfortable, there are stains on the carpet in the front hallway, and green stains in the carpet under the radiators. The 2 single beds were extremely uncomfortable we could feel the springs coming through, they would benefit from a good mattress topper. There was no mirrors in the single rooms so I had to keep walking down to the double room everytime. Also a small welcome pack would of been nice, and because the fridge was turned off it took so long to cool down enough, for us to put our food delivery in. In all the houses we have stayed in the fridge has always been on when we get there. The decoration inside and out is very tired, and even though we had a great 2 weeks here in Dartmouth we will not be staying here at Amberley again.

Beautifully presented and very well equipped. Fabulous position with lovely views and a cooling breeze. The walk back up from town was brutal....we drove up to the P&R when going for days out by boats & trains!! Well worth the £5 charge.First visit to Dartmouth and we had a really good week. Would recommend Amberley to anyone with good mobility!! The instructions for finding the house could be a little clearer for the section from the Sainsbury's roundabout.

Onsite parking and a beautiful garden an added bonus. Yes, it's a steep walk from town, and not for the fainthearted, however the location and views far outweigh this fact (for me). So happy with the house that already booked to come back next year!

It was very clean all through and very well equipped. We went in October so needed the heating, it worked well and the house was warm throughout. Hot was also good whenever needed. The house is at the top end of a cul-de-sac in a nice quiet residential area. The walk down into Dartmouth took about 15 minutes and was steep in places coming back up. We really enjoyed staying at Amberley and would definitely stay there again.

Parking is a bonus, walk up and down from town is difficult and not for those with mobility issues but we're not too fit and we managed it. Recycling is easy if you read on the boxes & bag what needs to go in each one. Lovely view from the front of the house and you can see the steam train go past at the bottom of the hill. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Pleasant garden. About 20 min. walk down a steep hill down to the town, The return walk - not for the faint hearted. A garden gate to the adjacent road would be ideal, a bus stop to the town is quite close. Only negative things - we experienced a blocked downstairs toilet, and a cheap Wi.Fi. Would recommend this property.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback after your stay at Amberly. All the points you have raised will be looked at by the owner and ourselves. Please note that if you had brought the blocked toilet to the attention of the local office, we would have investigated this straight away. We are reasonably fit so the walk back up the hill was not too trying. However there are places you can park down in the town, especially if you only want to park for 1-2 hours. There are steps up to the front door which some might find difficult and there is a bit of traffic noise from the road behind. The beds are comfortable. An unexpected bonus for our 3 year old grandson was the view from the front down to the steam trains on the other side of the river. They announced their presence with a whistle.

The south facing garden with chairs and picnic table is great for relaxing. It is a very steep climb from Dartmouth so we walked down and got a taxi back for about £5, much easier! There are some lovely restaurants in Dartmouth but booking is essential. The attractions are fantastic with ferry trips to suit all needs. The beaches are a relatively short drive along very narrow roads but have spectacular views especially towards Salcombe. We will definitely return.

It was very clean and well equipped in a lovely quiet part of Dartmouth. Whilst it was a ten minute walk into the centre, the walk was enjoyable and it meant there was parking for at least two cars which was very handy. • "The house was brilliant."

It had everything we needed and was so clean and we would thoroughly recommend it. The only thing that would have helped is a gate in the back garden giving access to the road at the back of the house making it easier to catch and alight from the bus. This would have eliminated the need to walk up and down steep hills which was not a problem for us as we are both fit but would present a challenge to people with mobility issues, but this is more of a wish list item rather than a fault with the accommodation.

We will definitely stay there again when we stay in Dartmouth. Just wish there was a back gate, as the bus stops into town, are very close to the house, but you have to walk the long way round at present. Not a problem for most, but, if you have walking difficulties ( like us oldies) it can be a problem, especially the steep climb back up to the house. we had to go everywhere by car.

We found it very well equipped and prepared with a pretty garden and easy parking. The directions are very exact and easy to follow. The Devon weather and Devon hills were a bit of a challenge but the coast path, Dartmoor scenery and local gardens (Coleton Fishacre and Overbecks) are so gorgeous that can be forgiven.

However, we wish to bring a couple of Issues we found that may help you. Entrance mat by front door is filthy, needs either throughly cleaning or preferably, replacing. To be met with the site of it every time we arrived ‘home’ was depressing to say the least. Didn’t want to walk on it in stocking feet!! Also, there were was considerable staining to the ground floor carpeting. Surely for the beginning of the season that cannot be right? Although the bedding was changed at the end of week one, which we appreciated, we were not told this would happen, or how. We were prepared to wash and change ourselves since we had no advice as to what arrangements had been made. Quite embarrassing for us and the lady ‘who does’ to confront each other on our return from town, not expecting ‘visitors’. Please mention such in your literature. We wouldn’t use this property again, although we intend to visit Dartmouth on a regular basis, we love the place

On the positive side, it is comfortable, clean and in a good location. it offers almost everything you could need. Close to town, but it's a very steep hill to navigate on foot. The only negative is the showers. The ensuite shower is very underpowered, with the water dripping rather than flowing from the shower head - they need to install a pump. The shower in the bathroom is slightly better but both showers would benefit from a safety handle.

  • "I booked the property at very short notice for a week away at the end of October with my husband and my daughter, son in law and 20 month old granddaughter."

We have visited Dartmouth for many years and are truly in love with the place. We needed somewhere that catered for families and found the house comfortable and well equipped although, despite several comments from previous customers, there were no oven gloves. It was clean but there were rather a lot of cobwebs in the lounge particularly around the fireplace which was strange. The showers were extremely slow and inefficient, it may be that the water pressure is poor although elsewhere in the house the water flow was fine. There was also no equipment for babies such as a highchair, cot or a few toys which would have been helpful and could put off families with young children. We were also disappointed at the meanness in the supply of toilet rolls for a family property (no spares!) and expect a carton of milk for a cup of tea when we arrive.. However, there were many positives including its location, parking for 2 cars, garden, good heating system and well equipped kitchen. We really enjoyed our stay and would go to this property again with our family. It was well priced and with a few improvements would be excellent.

It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.
