• "There were two positives about Cobalt Cottage; it is in a very central position in the town and it has parking."

  Other than that it is not somewhere we would ever want to stay again. It is cramped and uncomfortable, noisy from the flat above, the narrow winding stairs are difficult, the sliding doors on the bedrooms don’t work well, the small balcony is dirty with no view other than a roof full of nesting sea gulls and a derelict building. Future guests should be informed that there is now noisy ground works being carried out immediately next door. The cottage was generally fairly clean but the sofa in the living room is disgustingly dirty and uncomfortable. We resorted to putting other seat pads on top of the sofa. Communication with C&C is a major problem. I made several phone calls prior to our holiday to establish details about the garage and was promised call backs that didn’t happen. I emailed both the head and local office about issues with the property whilst I was there and never received a reply. The phone number for the local office is never given out to customers. In general this is a tired property and is not value for money.

  Thank you for highlighting the deck area. This has now been refreshed. Sadly the building opposite was vacated by Travis Perkins a few weeks ago and indeed is now empty. The gulls have taken advantage of this to nest. The groundwork next door is due to a new garden being created which should become a very peaceful area. Property Owner

• "The communications with Sykes and Coast and Country Dartmouth off was excellent with regard to the property key collection."

  The property was in good condition and location was very close to town a massive positive. However there were a couple of issues: - No running hot water in the property other than through the electric shower. None of the taps had hot water which was never sorted throughout the 5 day stay although reported on day one. - The property offers a small off road parking in a garage away to another property where specific instructions in the itinerary is given, but is clearly not available to be used. Itinerary needs updating to stop wasting the of any future renter. - Also if you have a fear of seagulls or are easily angered by there noise, then probably not the property for you, as there is a large number that roost on the adjacent building.

  Thanks for your generally positive feedback. Dealing with your three specific issues Hot water. The owners had turned off the hot water when the previous guests had left and had forgotton to turn it on again in the cupboard under the main stairs. I have no idea why your message never got to me or the agents did not go and switch the hot water on. Profuse apologies. Parking. A parking permit for the adjoining Mayor's Avenue car park was presumably in the property when you arrived or presented with the keys by the agents. The lock up garage less than 5 minutes walk away should be left unlocked for guests to use although many guests prefer the nearer Mayor's Avenue car park Seagulls. Agreed but unfortunately not much we can do about them. They are at their noisiest in late Spring. Property Owner

• "We moved to the property at short notice due to issues with our original accommodation (it was being renovated without us being advised prior to the holiday)."

  Cobalt cottage was very practical and in a great position close to the centre of Dartmouth. The bedrooms were a reasonable size, bathrooms were good and the apartment was warm. The kitchen was good and well equipped. Due to the position of the apartment there are no views of the town and it does feel a little dark but not a real downside. Apartment was tidy but could have been not as a clean as expected (e.g. bedding, bathrooms)

  We are glad we were able to accomodate you at such short notice and that you enjoyed staying in Cobalt Cottage. We are slightly surprised by your comments about cleanliness. All the beds were made up with freshly laundered sheets and bedding and both bathrooms had been professionally cleaned a few days before your arrival. Property Owner

• "Really comfortable stay, brilliant location."

  The facilities were very good including a Nespresso machine which was a real bonus. Would recommend staying here and we will certainly return!

• "Cobalt Cottage."

  We had a great holiday and the weather was perfect. The cottage is located very conveniently in the heart of Dartmouth with all amenities close by and having a parking permit for the Mayors Ave car park was great. The cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything you would expect in a holiday cottage. This cottage is not suitable perhaps for someone who is not very mobile as the stairs from the upper floor to the lounge kitchen is narrow and steep. A few small issues the owners of the cottage need to address are the light on the stairs comes on with a sensor and stays on for about approximately 15 minutes which we felt was too long. The lounge light switch needs some attention as it does not always work. We found the lounge / kitchen area cold in the evenings even with the warm week we have just had, we would not like to visit in winter unless the under floor heating is working which it isn't at present, the one heater is not working 100% and probably needs replacing. We did report the blocked upstairs hand basin which I am sure will be sorted. Other wise we enjoyed staying in Cobalt Cottage and would probably return

  Thanks for your feedback. We are glad you had an enjoyable stay. Like many historic properties in central Dartmouth Cobalt Cottage has some quirks including the staircase between the two levels. We have installed fixed handrails to assist. The motion sensing timer on the staircase LED lights is set to the minimum time period. This is longer than needed but better too long than too short! The lounge light switch has been repaired and there are now three electic heaters in the lounge/kitchen. The "blocked" upstairs hand basin was working fine if the rise and fall plug was operated properly Property Owner

• "Agent and owner very engaging."

  House very comfortable and great location. Not suitable for a disabled person, as high step up into property and narrow winding staircase to downstairs living room. When arriving and departing property you will need to pull down past the property and park on the double yellow lines where the road widens to unload /load your vehicle.

• "We had a wonderful weekend at Cobalt cottage."

  Ideal location, a short walk from the town centre, up a quiet narrow street. The cottage was spotlessly clean with very comfy beds. The layout of the open plan kitchen/sitting area was surprisingly spacious. Any queries I had with the owner were responded to promptly. One thing to note : when unloading and loading the car, best plan would be to pull in further up the road beyond the cottage where the road widens.

  It has a superb location right by the centre of the town, and only a short walk from M&S and the car park which was very convenient. The cottage itself was charming, comfortable, immaculately clean and provided all the amenities we needed. Would definitely stay there again.
