  • "The house was lovely and clean when we arrived with all of the amenities as specified on the listing."

The house was nice and warm and the fire in the living room lets you get even more toasty! All in all, we loved our stay and would recommend it highly to all our friends.

  • "We were quite worried about the cottage due to the negative comments but they turned out to be true, the cottage was cold and damp it did also smelt strongly of damp even the huge amount of scented reed bottles could not hide it, steps up to property are dangerous when wet as I had quite bad falls as they we slippery."

unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there which is ok apart from the cottage is so damp and cold we were unable to dry our water proofs, clothing or shoes as the property as it is so cold what made it worse is the owners kept over-riding the heating or it was set not to come on. We left early as we could not put up with it any longer. The road upto cottage is narrow and steep and locals do not give way at all.so be warned. We are very fit but even we found walking from the town to the cottage hard work. The steps up to the top of the garden are not great it does state there are fifty steps up admittedly that being said the view is very good though. But for us that was the only good thing about it. we have never been so happy to get home, So as you may have guessed we would not recommend this cottage at all and it is the 1st time we have ever left somewhere early. On a side note even though they had also received negative comments coast and county cottages were actually very good unlike the cottage. Did see the biggest spider we have ever seen in the 2nd bedroom though! Look this is just our opinion you may think totally different but you have been told.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay despite the issues you have encountered. Dartmouth is full of steep and winding streets which we find adds to the charm of the town, but understand they can be challenging both on foot and whilst driving. We will make sure the heating is up higher and ensure there are clear instructions as to how to use this moving forwards. The owners are looking to add additional heaters to the twin bedroom this winter as it can feel cooler than the rest of the house. We do hope to welcome you back to Dartmouth in the future. • "Lovely cottage with great views over the Dart."

Good location, close to town and a nice dog walk up to the castle. The kitchen was well-equipped and had all we needed to cook. Nice touch to find dog bowls as we had left our dog's water bowl at home. My only gripe was the shower in the smaller bathroom which seemed to have only 2 settings - freezing and scalding! However, since there were only 3 of us we all used the second bathroom which has a fantastic shower! All in all, a great stay and we look forward to going back.

I’m so pleased you had a great stay with the views, dog walks to the castle and found the kitchen well equipped! . I’ll put a guide to the little shower in the book - it is a bit of a knack. Warmest wishes karen, owner Property Owner

  • "We have an issue with Coast and Country properties who we believe manage the property."

When we arrived at the office they threw the envelope at us with the key in, when I asked for the postcode so we could find the house she rolled her eyes, went to a computer then scribbled it down on the envelope and threw it at us again. Not an utter of how to find it or enjoy your stay. When we did find the property we initially impressed. None of our issues are because of the owner they have been incredibly thoughtful with what they leave for guests. But the place was dirty. My kids love chocolate but refused to eat the biscuits left for us as they said they don’t trust them because of the dirt. We found stained bed linen, saucepans which had food in them, dishwasher with pots in, cms of dust and mould in the rooms (I have some photos and would be happy to supply). The place was so damp that getting into bed the sheets felt wet. The double bed has a massive dip in it to the point my husband couldn’t put his socks on on the last morning due to his back. On the whole the owner has been severely let down by agents. We won’t return. We thought we’d booked via Sykes but clearly we had gone through to Coast and Country who were appalling so we won’t you again.

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. Your feedback contrasts so dramatically with other feedback we have received very recently I am quite taken aback. I will of course raise all the points you raise with Coast and Country. Warmest wishes Karen, owner. Property Owner

  • "The property is lovely in a very elevated spot, with incredible views."

Meaning lots of height therefore lots of steps. This was ok for us but our older dog struggled with the uncarpeted stairs to the living area from the front door. It is fairly central, vertically and not too far away from areas to walk with the dogs, you can go further up onto Dyers Hill or down to Victoria park. The outside area is nice but no real place for dogs to do their business, as it’s all decked. There are plants but they are on a slant, we had to let them out of the front door to find a bit of greenery. The property does have everything you could need and we were very comfortable. I don’t think I fully appreciated how hard it would be to cope with the constant steps/up. A walk up from town, then a walk up to the property and when there another walk up to the living area and then to get the very best views, and they are spectacular, another 3 sets of steps to the top deck. The views are amazing, just be prepared for the exercise. We did have a shock one evening when we were going to bed, it had rained heavily, we discovered two huge snails on the wall by the front door. We couldn’t see at first how they had got in but we realised there is quite a big gap by the front door skirting and they must have got in there, perhaps that could be looked at. All in all a lovely stay, but with our dogs and us getting older we wouldn’t stay that high up again. We love Dartmouth so have already booked for next year, this time back on the level. Thank you to Karen and Ross for all the little touches in Dart Views.

I’m so pleased you enjoyed our house and the incredible views, if not the steps and the snail! I’m so pleased you’re coming back to Dartmouth next year. It is a lovely place. We suggest dogs can use the gravel area in the back garden or just up jawbones steps at the bottom of the path if they need to go. I’ll put this in the house guide. Glad you liked our little touches too. Thanks for mentioning them. Have a great summer. Property Owner

Great house, lovely deck, the best in House Instructions, recommendations we have ever seen. One massive point, Coast/Country cottages should clearly state you must turn round 70 yards up the road in the pull in, do not attempt to drive any further due to the very narrow road

I’m so pleased you found the house great and the deck lovely. I wrote the house instructions so I’m chuffed you said they were the best! I will ask CC to remind guests about the turning circle. Good point. The best way in is to drive up from the centre of Dartmouth into Above Town, turn round in the turning circle and come back on yourself to to drop off luggage at the bottom of the path, then park. Definitely don’t drive further down unless you’re a local. I’ll check the sofa too. Thanks for using dog blankets. Warmest Wishes Karen, owner Dart Views. Property Owner

We would definitely return and the stunning cottage is well worth the drive up to it. We didn’t have any problems parking in the Mayors car park with the pass you are given. There are so many lovely places to eat and drink too.

I went with an elderly person who had mobility problems and picked the property specifically for the views. It was not clear that the viewpoint from the patio/ balcony area was up four flights of stairs and it would have been helpful to know that. I think this should be more explicitly stated. The property is more suited to able bodied individuals. Apart from this, it was a wonderful spot to stay and explore from.

Dear Dr Roslin, I’m so pleased that you found Dart Views a good spot to stay and explore from. And I hope your friend enjoyed the views out to the river from the lounge. This house never fails to disappoint. It’s a wonderful home from home cottage and was extremely clean and tidy. The kitchen has everything you need. The bedrooms were warm and cosy with lovely blankets and the little touches like dog bowls and dog biscuits was a bonus. I read with interest some of the reviews from last year commenting on damp smells and the place feeling a tatty. The owners have clearly taken this on board. On our visit the house had been redecorated and felt bright and airy. Any damp issues had been dealt as it smelt very fresh. Looking forward to our next visit some time in the Autumn. The views from the house were amazing, but as others have said, you need to be prepared for a bit of a long climb to get up to top. But it's worth it as you get amazing views from the living room/kitchen and even more spectacular from the viewing deck at the top of the garden. The house was exceptionally well kitted out - much more so than any other holiday accommodation we have stayed in. The only downside is that there is a problem with damp in the bedrooms. There was no smell, but the pillows were often damp and in the back bedroom we discovered a puddle of water under the bed (there had been no rain during our visit).

The car parking pass is a real bonus as parking near the cottage is not possible. The house was extremely dusty and when it rains the water runs down to a door way off the second bedroom causing a damp smell. That said having 2 bathrooms with 2 bedrooms with 4 adults sharing is great. When the sun is shinning the views are amazing from the lounge and even better from the top garden balcony area. • "Loved this place."

Lovely cottage with everything you could need. The upper patio is just brilliant for the views. We could sit there all day no watch the boats go by. Yes it’s on a hill and yes it’s tough to climb back up but we knew this and we managed. If you want a view then is the compromise! We managed to just park as near as we could, unload then we moved the car to the car park and we only used it one day - and dont forget the pass covers a lot of the car parks around the area so you don’t need to pay for more parking. We never had a fire but there were bags of logs outside the front door that you could buy if you wanted one. We were so very lucky with the weather for April- blue skies and sunshine every day - but chilly on a night so we just put the heating on. Very snug. As this house has two bathrooms it was very handy for us both to have showers at the same time.. plenty of throws, blankets and even hot water bottles for the cold nights. Lovely picture window in the lounge to look out at Kingswear and the river and out to sea. Take the road to the right out of the property and walk down to warfleet creek and then have coffee at Dartmouth Castle and do a circular walk through Little Dartmouth, walk down to Sugary cove and then back across Jawbone Hill for a spectacular walk. The only thing I didn’t like was having to ring Sykes to get the key code for the box at Coast and Country for the keys as we would be arriving after the office closed and having to hang on for about 45 mins. Why can’t we just be given the number for the office in Dartmouth instead - Sykes have to ring them so why can’t the customer.

It has all mod cons, was warm and cozy and we especially enjoyed the couple of fires we had. Coast and Country staff were really helpful and friendly. We had a few enquiries and they were responded to very promptly. There are just a few issues with the property. There seemed to be a lot of damp on the ground floor (this may be an issue more in winter than summer), and it could have been a bit cleaner. However these were minor points as overall we had a fantastic time. We would definitely recommend it.

The property itself and the location were perfect and I hope to return soon. My only complaint would be the 5pm check in which is very late. I was also told to return the keys before 10am but when I went to the office it was closed. There was also no where to park when I arrived at the cottage despite being told there would be somewhere to unload. It would be helpful if this was mentioned beforehand. Overall it was a fantastic break so thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the check in time. The reason for this slightly later time is to allow our cleaners to carry out a Covid safe clean. Our cleaners go to more than one property on a changeover day and so do not always arrive at 10am, this later time allows our cleaners enough time to get through each property before guests check in. Apologies that it was not made clear that our office is closed on a Sunday, however, we are happy for keys to be deposited through our letterbox. We will take your points about parking into account and look into this for future bookings. We are glad that you had an enjoyable break and look forward to welcoming you in the future! 00am (Assuming there was somebody in the property before us) and a collection of keys at 5.00pm, one would have thought 7 hours was enough time to clean the place properly. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere. The dishwasher had broken glass in the bottom. The mugs were dirty in the cupboard. There were hairs on the chair bases...blonde one's and we're not blonde or had a dog with us. Stains on the bed headboard. It put a "stain" on the weekend right from the word go. The Wifi didn't work, so if you're going to offer Prime, Apple, Netflix etc, make sure the wifi works so you can use these facilities otherwise don't profess to offer them and don't hide behind the Wifi not being guaranteed. You either offer it or you don't. Good job i had 4G, otherwise I wouldn't have received your irritating text message reminding us of what we had to do on departure - Strip the bedding down etc, etc. What 7 hours isn't enough for the cleaners to do it and don't hide behind Covid because there are plenty of other touch points that C&C haven't covered off, such as the scrappy chairs and sofa's that could have been presented better. At the end of the day it wasn't value for money.

The house is tucked away in Above Town but unloading was fine and we easily found somewhere to park in an adjacent lane free of charge. In the second week one of the four spaces mentioned became available so we parked there which was a bonus. The house was very clean and has everything you need for a self catering break with a well appointed kitchen and a fantastic top terrace for al fresco dining with glorious views of the dart and estuary. The bedrooms were clean and very comfortable with ample wardrobe space. There are lovely personal touches such as an “honesty” system of emergency items to set you up such as tea, coffee, dishwasher tablets etc as well as a spare dog bowl and treats for our 5 month puppy we had in tow. • "It would be a good if you put not for suitable for people who are unable to climb a lot of steep steps."

The cleaning of this cottage is not great, duvet covers not even buttoned up I guess thats to save time. We cleaned the cottage extremely well before we left, so I think the next person to use it will rate it as very clean, I think that's what's happening with the write up comments.I also think that you should remove the words off road parking with this cottage. Off road indicates that its on the property site. Off road does not mean park and ride, this is misleading. The cottage does have woderful views, but again the photo that sells the cottage is a bit miss leading, it doesn't tell you its up 4 flights of steps, up the cliff side! we only went up there once. There isn't anywhere suitable for dogs to go. Thank goodness a very nice man allowed us to unpack the car in front of his garage. But even then it involves quite a walk up several steps to the front door. we did enjoy our stay but once down in the town you wouldn't want to of left something behind at the cottage and have to go back!

Many thanks for your feedback, although we were concerned to read that the property was not satisfactorily presented prior to your arrival. As you will appreciate, we work very hard with our owners and housekeepers to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained, so it is very disappointing to read these comments. Your feedback has been passed on to the housekeeper/cleaner concerned. We have amended some of the wording on the website to ensure there is not confusion in the future. We do hope that you had an enjoyable holiday in spite of the issues raised and look forward to welcoming you back to Dartmouth in the not too distant future. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage with great views and we had a great time."

However it does requi an ugent deep clean for example: lamps and lamp shades were covered in dust, loads of dirt under the bed (noticed when we used dog crate), spots of blood on kitchen floor, crockery and glasses dirty, skirting boards and stairs dirty. For nearly £700 a week we expected a higher standard.

About the location

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
