  • "We enjoyed our stay here."

We found having only one key between three individuals very tedious, but a spare was provided. It would have been better to have access to the keybox, where a key could have stayed at all times. Initial car access was very difficult indeed, as well as turning to make the return journey. The house was great for three - despite sleeping for 6, this would have been a squash. The corkscrew needs upgrading, more toilet paper provided and matches to light the fire. The drying function on the machine was hopeless. The central heating was good but uneven between radiators. But these are minor quibbles. The town office was always friendly and helpful.

  • "Lovely property."

Lovely location. We really enjoyed our stay and I may book again in a year or two. Please pass on to the owner that there were 3 issues. 2 minor, 1 major. Firstly the Hobbit room shower needs attention. I am very mechanically minded but struggled to operate the worn/ faulty controls. We managed to turn it into a family competition/ game. I think anyone else would likely have to call someone out to switch it off. . Secondly the the downstairs floor had been swept but not mopped. We soon got dirty socks so decided to wear our (clean) shoes indoors. Thirdly the Agents forgot to let me know they had moved the office address. My wife had driven down by herself and followed the 'collect key instructions' , the office was no where to be seen. She found another man with the exact same problem. She concluded that the whole holiday rental must have been a scam and was about to head back home to Woking. I managed to find a contact number for the agents who fortunately answered on Sunday evening and sorted out the problem. Well done for answering the phone but this issue should not have occurred in the first place. Kind regards,

Thank you so much for the lovely review. Iam so dissapointed to hear about your issue with the ensuite which was installed only 12 months ago. If we had been made aware we would have rectified the situation straight away for you, it only needed adjustment. I have passed on the unacceptable issue with the keys and agents and the cleaning. I am glad you enjoyed the house and what Dartmouth has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Stillwaters was lovely."

Great location just a short walk from the town. I loved the top “hobbit” room - built into the eaves with open plan shower/loo and balcony with views over Dartmouth (fabulous as long as you aren’t tall!). It was comfortable and well equipped - perfect for our short break.

Thank you for the lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time in Dartmouth and the ameneties and location of Stillwaters. Property Owner

  • "We loved the cottage!"

Pros: Decorated very nicely and is in the perfect location for access to everything. Views from the patio overlooking the harbour were lovely. Teen daughter loved the 'hobbit room'! Beds were super comfy and rooms were clean. Showers were good with plenty of hot water. Enclosed patio was safe for our small dog to wander in. Nice touches included a good hairdryer, toiletries and iron. Permit for car park that was 5 minutes walk away was much appreciated. Owners were very friendly and helpful in addressing our few issues quickly. Cons: Were disappointed to find much of the cutlery, glasses and some china were not clean so had to wash ourselves. Sole skillet was no longer non-stick so not great for cooking anything in such as eggs. Also found black dog hair over all of the sofa cushions (we put them to the side and noted this to Sykes). Door knobs on upstairs bedrooms kept falling off. Gas BBQ was very handy, although gas canister was very low, drip tray needed changing and cleaning brush was finished off by the time we used it on our last night (we notified Sykes of gas issues and the owners provided gas canisters as soon as they were able to). Lastly, the 9am check-out was a bit of a downer for the end of what was a wonderful week's break. We've never stayed anywhere else which had such an early check-out. Sorting out 2 cars to collect from 2 car parks, loading everything up for 4 adults and 1 dog and leaving the cottage as per departure instructions (strip all beds, put all rubbish out, etc) was stressful for our last morning before heading off for a long drive home.

Thank you for the lovely review and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Stillwaters. I have relayed the issue with the cleaning to the housekeeper. With regard to the check out time I will refer this back to the letting agents as this is something they stipulate. Apologies for the disruption it caused. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage with spectacular views especially from the upstairs balcony."

Location was great - within reach of everything in town. The cottage was very well appointed and we were very comfortable. The Hobbit room needed a little careful manoeuvring at first but we were soon used to avoiding the beams and the shower up there was great.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give Stillwaters such a lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed the amenities and what Dartmouth has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Stillwaters is beautiful."

A Lovely cottage placed just perfectly for a magnificent view. As you walk in to the enclosed garden you are hit with the stunning views across the sea. A table and 4 chairs await your presence with a nice glass of wine. Staying in the garden there is a BBQ (gas) and some sloping steps around to the rear of the property to the back door. I was a bit concerned about the drop from the low wall by the table and chairs as it’s quite high up. Our dogs had to be kept an eye on at all times. I think a barrier should be put up or maybe a warning sign. The garden is a sun trap and is beautiful 1st thing in the morning. There is an outside toilet and clothes horse in the toilet. You then walk through the door and have plenty of coat hooks in the porch and a washer dryer that is perfect. Into the open plan kitchen, dinner and living room. Lots of good utensils, pots and pans. Loads of space and storage. Great oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer although this could do with a deep clean. There’s lots of things around the property that the owner has provided, books, games, maps, information regarding Dartmouth. A large tv which isn’t in a great place as only a certain chair points towards it. However, assuming that you don’t go on holiday to watch tv I don’t think it’s an issue for everyone. There was even an Xbox 360 with games there too. Then we go upstairs to the 1st floor where there are two double bedrooms. I believe this would be classed as bedroom 2 and 3. And a walk in shower and toilet. The bedrooms are lovely, clean with lovely soft carpets. Us parents had room 3, typical, there is a sink which I found useful and a shelf to put makeup etc. The hanging rail was a little weak and leant forwards once our clothes were in. It might be wise to put curtains up too as the blinds just gave privacy and did nothing for the 4am brightness. Our daughter had room 2. This would have been better for us parents as there are larger bedside tables but alas we didn’t. Then up to the 2nd floor, bedroom 1. Our son had this room. He mentioned that he bumped his head several times getting out of bed and down the stairs, this is already written in the owner’s description but worth thinking about if you are tall. Hence why we stayed on the 1st floor. The bedroom has an open shower, toilet and sink which is unusual and there’s no lock on that door. The balcony is beautiful but I didn’t feel safe on it so I stayed away. That is just my paranoia though. My son loved the telescope. Again there is storage in this room and is very spacious. I wanted to give the property a bit of a clean before we left but there was no cleaning products. I found the Hoover though so I was able to run it round. The bbq was very, very, very dirty and greasy and again we didn’t have anything to clean it with. We had some fairy liquid and a sponge so we did our best and then put it in the dishwasher several times but it was still dirty. It’s a shame that the previous guests didn’t clean up after themselves. Maybe a note to tell people to clean it up after use. There are many lovely shops that the property is close too. Be warned that the access is very narrow. We have a Ford Mondeo and struggled to reach the property. It’s also a bit of a hike to walk there too from the shops etc.

Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review on Stillwaters. I am sorry to hear that the gas BBQ had been left dirty from the previous holiday guests. I have asked the house keeper to ensure this is always checked. We also have a BBQ cleaning and utensil set in a black sip up bag in the pullout drawer ( next to the cooker). A privacy screen is provided for the top bedroom to divide the bathroom and bedroom. Property Owner

  • "Excellent property in great location."

All facilities provided and easy to use. Top floor Little Hobbits Room was what caught my eye when going on line to search for a suitable cottage for a rare family holiday. Rare because our eldest daughter works overseas so going on a shared UK based holiday is unusual, and she is a great Lord of The Rings fan!

Thank you for taking the time to give our cottage a lovely review. We are so pleased that you were able to enjoy some precious family time and explore what Dartmouth has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Absolutely hated “The Hobbit Room”."

Ducking to get in and out of bed, ducking to use the bathroom and ducking to get into the room from the last 4 stairs. Great shower but overflowed onto floor. No plug socket near mirror. Odd smell with duvet. Downstairs had a bad smell too (possibly drains).

Thank you for taking the time to review Stillwaters. I hope you enjoyed the wonderful location and other amenities the house and Dartmouth has to offer. I’m sorry to hear your extreme thoughts on our home and the top floor bedroom. We do warn of the sloping ceilings and show it in the pictures. We feel the amazing views off the balcony of the River Dart more than compensate for any sloping roof. However, for your comfort, there are two other bedrooms with no sloping ceilings or height issue for tall holiday guests. With regard to the plug by the mirror, unfortunately that is not possible due to regulations with electric sockets in bathrooms needing to be 3 metres away from the shower. We do have a socket placed the other side of the door for guests convenience. We have had the issue you raised with a drain smelling looked into, however, could not identify any smell but taken remedial action with appropriate products. Property Owner

Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes.
