Everything you need for a relaxing holiday in quiet secluded surroundings. The cockerel and chickens added to the ambience of the setting. Nearby is the lovely town of Tavistock with a good market centre offering interesting items to buy and good refreshment area. There are plenty of local walks to do and plenty of good places to visit e.g Lydford Gorge, the Prison Museum at Dartmoor plus many more. An excellent holiday venue with everything you need for a relaxing break. A big thank to both Jill and Simon for their hospitality and friendliness. Looking forward to our next stay at the Byre.

The property

This smart little cottage is situated less than a mile from the small Devon village of Dousland on the south-western slopes of Dartmoor.

Next to the owners' farmhouse, the accommodation has been beautifully renovated to an excellent standard.

On the ground floor is a good sized sitting room where you can curl up with a good book beside the cosy wood burning stove.

Whilst cooking or eating at the dining area in the kitchen, you will be distracted by the fabulous views of the horse in the paddock and the dramatic hills of Dartmoor beyond, tempting you to step out on to the patio which has a barbecue for alfresco meals.

Upstairs is the big and beautiful double bedroom with its romantic bathroom.

As well as your patio, you are welcome to use the garden beyond where you may spot wildlife around the pond or take on a boules challenge.

You are close to the open moor here and it is a lovely place to walk and gaze at the surrounding countryside where the idyllic rural scenes of War Horse were filmed or perhaps at picturesque Burrator Reservoir or the Plym Valley.

Enjoy a cream tea at The Garden House with its lovely garden or take a tour of Princetown, the old market town of Tavistock or Plymouth’s city amenities. The Old Byre is a comfortable place in a lovely area of the moors, just right for exploring Devon and Cornwall.
