This is excellent walking country, with lanes and footpaths to wander and Castle Drogo in its dramatic wooded valley, and you can dry your coats and boots in the outhouse by the cottage.
The open space of Dartmoor is within easy reach, as is the friendly little town of Chagford with its inns and interesting little shops.
For the bright lights of the city head to Exeter, 17 miles away, or take your buckets and spades to the beach, about 20 miles away.

Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race.
