  • “The cottage was stunning and true to the pictures on your website.”

The scenery was lovely with lots of walks to do, and the hot tub was a welcome after a long day. Just need to say that the owners Janelle and Iain were very welcoming and helpful with a good knowledge of the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend this cottage.

The property

Combe Martin 5.8 miles.

Nestled on the outskirts of the wondrous Exmoor National Park and the glorious coastline of Devon, is the elegantly appointed, detached holiday accommodation, The Old Rectory Cottage.

Settled in a quiet idyll of rural bliss it is perfectly suited for couples or small families to spend days soaking up the Devonshire sunshine.

On arrival take a moment to drink in the scents of the productive old Victorian terrace garden and stunning views across the valley up to the hills, make your way into the old stone built barn to the porch, before unwinding into the evening within the open-plan living room.

The open-plan living room makes for a wonderful social space, where you and your partner can prepare home-cooked meals, plan the next day’s hike or cosy up in front of the woodburning stove with a book in hand.

Alternatively take a blanket, light the fire pit and sit outside toasting marshmallows and wonder in the big starry sky.

The kitchen will cater to your culinary needs, as well as housing a washing machine and a dishwasher for convenience, there’s also an espresso coffee machine so you don’t miss any of life’s small pleasures.

As the evening draws to a close, make your way to one of the bedrooms, where you can rest before the next day’s adventure.

Choose between a plush king-size bedroom with a quaint window seat and a king size single bedroom, both enjoying a refreshing ambiance and contemporary interiors.

Concluding the interior is a family bathroom, where you will find a shower over bath, basin and WC.

When the weather calls for it take your meals alfresco, use the BBQ and help yourself to the organic herbs grown in the outdoor pots, before you savour a moment of relaxation by soaking your muscles in the bubbling hot tub with far stretching private country views.

For those nights you don’t want to cook head up to the real local pub serving up award winning food, its dog-friendly and just a short stroll up the rural lane.

During the day wander through the wild grasses and apple trees where there are plenty of spaces to relax, meander down to the stream and wild pond where you can keep watch for the resident kingfisher.

The cottage grounds neighbour with the National Trust property of Arlington Court, home to the most significant collection of carriages in the country and fabulous woodland play areas for the children.

Public walking paths are located virtually outside the front door where you can explore the bounty of wildlife and fauna including our wild residents of red deer, buzzards and an abundance of birds including our lovely woodpeckers.

If its action-packed adventure you’re seeking, this part of Devon has you covered with coasteering, surfing, horse riding, quad biking, to name a few; with the famous beaches of Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe all within a short distance.

If you want to explore further afield, the immediate area has plenty of attractions to keep you busy; within striking distance is Exmoor Zoo, home to the only pair of black leopards in the UK, as well as the Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, where you can discover animatronic dinosaurs.

Alternatively, head slightly further afield to the coastline, home to the beach of Combe Martin and Wild Bear, each one offering opportunity to explore or walk your canine companion amidst the wonderful setting.

For further adventure, head to the majestic land of the Exmoor National Park and be welcomed by the landscape of moorland, valleys and woodland, and catch glimpses of the variety of wildlife, which includes the iconic red deer and wild ponies.
