  • "We loved the property."

Great country cottage vibe. Everything worked as it should. Information provided was comprehensive and clear. The beds and pillows, however, were a bit uncomfortable.

  • "A beautiful, comfortable home, in a lovely peaceful spot with an enchanting garden This was a last minute booking but we couldn't have been happier."

The house itself is unusually spacious for a holiday cottage with a large, and super-comfortable living room, three very big bedrooms and two well equipped bathrooms. Big windows on all sides of the house and an open plan layout mean that it's always bright and fresh. The kitchen has all you need and more - with a good sized table and lovely views over the garden. The garden itself is the biggest selling point - with three or four different sun spots for different times of the day, and carefully arranged garden furniture. The owners were full of good advice about local pubs and attractions - and we had a glorious week getting to know this fascinating part of Somerset.

  • "We had a lovely stay at the coach house!"

We were 6 adults and 2 babies under 1. The house is spacious, with a nice big living room and a good-sized kitchen with steps leading down to a lovely garden. Somerset is beautiful, we had some great trips out and would definitely like to come back to see more. Thanks for a great stay and would highly recommend!

  • "Totally understand the positivity of other reviewers regarding the 'quirky' feel of The Coach House, but - for a family of 5 - the usual bathroom and bedroom set up didn't sadly quite work for us."

On arrival the house was very fusty smelling and we had to open upstairs windows and the kitchen door to help freshen things up (bought Fabreeze next day). Spoke to owner regarding this the second day, who was lovely, and explained cleaner had been away, but - when paying such a large amount - feel the initial impression should have been better. Welcome pack appeared to be some milk along with washing up accessories (when some reviews had mentioned scones and cream!) Whilst having pianos and a guitar is undoubtedly quirky we felt the property needed a bit of a revamp. Even the placing of the TV was on a wall where only one chair actually faced it! However, biggest issue was bathrooms. Only one room had a shower (sectioned off with rows of ear-splitting shells on strings!) and the immersion heater couldn't stretch to 5 short showers each morning so some of our boys had to shower at night to allow enough time to reheat overnight, which was a tad frustrating. For smaller groups who love old furniture and can manage a single shower (there is a bath in one bedroom, but it'll use all the hot water) The Coach House is absolutely fine and we absolutely LOVED SOMERSET. Hope the owners will take on board our feedback as with a few changes we'd be back again in the future. Thanks.

Thank you for your comments which we have indeed taken on board. We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay. West Somerset is a very special place. We’re sorry your arrival day was a disappointment. it is difficult to completely remove fustiness in a 200 year old historic building, so early in the spring. And the cold weather snap didn’t help. We stopped providing home made scones due to government regulations around allergies. We hope you enjoyed the farmhouse biscuits we provided instead. We also now offer the option to order a freshly made global stew to be delivered for your first evening should that appeal. We’ve not had any prior comments regarding the hot water. It is a tank of finite capacity (permanently switched on), and you were a large party. In our experience the tank takes about 20 minutes to heat up should it be drained. We’re sorry the position of the tv didn’t work for you, especially given the poor weather you experienced! It is a conscious decision to not let the tv dominate the room and instead focus on creating a beautiful space with carefully chosen art and antique furniture as featured in the photos on the website. We hope very much that you will consider booking the Coach House again and hope that you get better weather when you do! Property Owner

  • "The property suited us perfectly."

It was comfortable and clean with a delightful quirkiness and all facilities as advertised. Two pianos and a guitar were a bonus! The dip in the access ramp was a bit of a problem; a vw golf is not a particularly low-slung car but even with passengers disembarked and driving at a snail's pace we grounded every time.

  • "What a beautiful place!"

I loved the double aspect view from the upstairs bedroom. And the incredible high beamed sitting room. We had a great breakfast in the garden on our first day. Then took the steam train to Minehead and walked the first bit of the South West Coast Path which was amazing. We also loved visiting Cleeve Abbey and The Notley Arms! We all had a great time and will definitely come again.

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a wonderful location, close to the coast and Exmoor and within a short walk of a fantastic pub."

If you like walking, dark skies and music then this is the place for you. We enjoyed having access to the record collection and musical instruments. Thank you for sharing! It was also nice to have a cream tea waiting for us on arrival. Access is shared with the neighbours who live in the adjoining property and this didn’t cause any concern or problems for us. We had a great stay and hope to return.

  • "The coach house is so homely."

We had a wonderful family holiday there. Our pre-schoolers were enchanted by the place! We loved the art collection - and will remember the meals we had as a family sitting in the peaceful garden. We had the pleasure of meeting a family of hedgehogs resident in the garden! So many options for days out in all directions. And lovely to have Cleeve Abbey, the Torre Cider Farm (great breakfasts as well as good cider!) and Watchet (Star Inn highly recommend) only a mile or two away. We didn’t want to leave and would be very pleased to return.

  • "What a lovely place and setting."

This is my second visit and will definitely come again. Think big comfortable rooms with beamed ceilings, generous bathroom and a farmhouse-style kitchen on the upper floor. You can sit round a wooden table with cups of tea or throw open the arched door and sit on the step overlooking trees and old walled gardens. In summer we sat out in the sun trap garden and watched the sun go down as a family of hedgehogs emerged. This time we revisited the rolling fields just outside the door - the start of the Quanttocks - and drove the short distance to the sea for a long walk along atmospheric Dunster beach. The weekend was topped off with a home made curry at the cosy White Horse pub a walk away but there’s also a gastro pub, beachfront cafe and cream teas in easy reach. This is a hidden treasure - in an inexplicably overlooked part of Somerset. I’d go before everyone else discovers it.

  • "There is definitely only parking for one vehicle!"

To park on the road would have been very dangerous to us and other road users as the route is used by heavy farm vehicles. We ended up by paying one of the neighbours £50.00 to park one of our vehicles on their land for the week. You need to make sure that people are aware that there is a downstairs flat that is rented full time! You have to squeeze passed their vehicles (and washing line) to get into your access doors. They have a lovely view of you sitting in the garden which I should think is awkward for all parties! They can be heard ‘chatting’ from upstairs! I definitely felt that the owners have ‘jumped on the holiday home bandwagon’ to make use of the situation COVID has put us in!

Thank you for your comment. We're sorry the property failed to meet your expectations, for reasons relating to parking, access and neighbours. You might be pleased to know that there is now parking for two vehicles at the property. A small garage has been made available to guests, since you stayed. Regarding access, if you approach the property through the garden gate, there is no need to squeeze past anything! Perhaps we could have made that clearer. Regarding the annex (2, The Coach House), it is occupied by a lovely couple who, in our experience, live a very quiet life. They do not have access to the garden, and we have not received any other comments about them being there. The main and sunniest part of the garden, including the patio and sun-lounging area, is not overlooked by their windows. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope that you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Kind regards, The Owners Property Owner
