  • "A well equipped farmhouse with very pleasant owners who were very accommodating."

Grandchildren loved the rides on the back of the quad bikes, rides on the tractors and helping feed the lambs and calves. Games room and good enclosed garden play area that kept the children amused along with the friendly dogs. Nice touch with the owners supplying the eggs, milk and wine on our arrival. Very good holiday with lovely memories. Thank you.

Very beautiful sceneries and some lovely walks. The option to visit the farm was superb and everyone really enjoyed seeing the whole farm. But the best part was the owners themselves, they were so helpful and welcoming which made our stay even better. Will definitely visit them again.

  • "We arrived on the Friday evening and it was a lovely surprise to find a bottle of wine, a dozen freshly laid eggs and some milk."

The farmhouse was very homely clean and had Christmas decorations. The rooms were spacious and well decorated. There was enough crockery and other cooking equipment. Altogether we were very impressed. Sadly my husband and I daughter and her fiancé had to leave Saturday morning as one of us tested positive for covid, however the other two families arrived a day later to enjoy a superb stay. Thank you Hornshayne Farm.

Hornshayne farm is absolutely incredible, the facilities are amazing and they really have thought of everything. The location is great, there was plenty of crockery/cutlery for everyone. The owners were extremely accommodating and nothing was ever too much trouble. They would talk to the children about the cows and have us the opportunity to watch the baby cows be fed. We would highly recommend and will certainly return again!!

  • "Fantastic week in this beautiful house."

Lots of cutlery, crockery, pans, cooking equipment etc. Games room an excellent bonus. Plenty of space to spread around. Beds very comfortable. Well manicured gardens and lovely play area for smaller children. We were made to feel very welcome and a lovely gesture of milk, wine and eggs left for us. Andrew, Sally and Charlie took time out of their very busy lives to show us around the farm and explain farm life. The calves and dogs were a big hit! Would go back tomorrow!

  • "We had a fantastic week staying at the farmhouse with friends."

The house is huge and had plenty of room for the 10 of us. On arrival the kids were amazed to see the stream and the play area and all of the garden toys and they spent many hours just playing in the garden. They also loved it when the dogs appeared! The fussball table and games room were enjoyed by all. Sally and Andrew were very welcoming and we were given lots of information about the farm and the local area and were able to roam around and go onto the farm to see the cows being milked and look at the pigs, calves, chickens and sheep. It was lovely having cows and sheep in the fields in front of the house to watch while you sat at the table having breakfast. The Sykes info told us that we needed to bring tea towels and oven gloves, which were actually provided at the house so no need to pack those in your luggage! I didn’t find a hairdryer but we had brought one along. It was great to have the washing machine and dryer to use, especially as we don’t have one at home at the moment due to building work, and they came in useful when we got caught in a downpour while doing a bit of fishing in the stream. The house is out in the peaceful Devon countryside but within easy driving distance of Sidmouth, Lyme Regis etc. With supermarkets in Sidmouth and Honiton to stock up for your stay. We had a fantastic time and definitely plan to return soon.

  • "We had a great holiday staying in this big farmhouse in the middle of beautiful Devon countryside."

We arrived to find new laid eggs,2 bottles of wine and milk in the fridge. A very thoughtful gesture. The thatched house, as well as being historically interesting, was spacious with plenty of modern bathrooms and constant very hot water. Plenty of lovely walks, not too far from the coast and in the midst of a busy dairy farm. We were alerted when a cow was about to give birth and watched twin calves arrive. Our stay at Hornshayne Farm passed much too quickly.

  • "Made to feel very welcome by the Hosts and extended farming family (including the dogs)."

Were allowed to wander at our leisure around the farm but also invited to watch the cows being milked, feed the calves and were lucky enough to watch a calf being born. The children were treated to a ride around the farm on a quad bike which they thoroughly enjoyed. All of this was not expected. Encouraged to walk to the top of the hill to experience the great views which we did. The house was warm and inviting and the welcome pack was very appreciated.

The place was warm and welcoming, on arrival were some farm eggs and a bottle of wine. The place is spacious and well laid out with great facilities and plenty of place, cups, glasses etc for everyone. The showers were the only slight downside, they weren't very powerful but there are many lovely baths to use. Great place, will definitely be back.

  • "This was the second time we have visited Hornshayne Farm and we had a lovely holiday."

There are lots of things to keep the children happy and the play area is brilliant, but the bark on the ground seems to have been replaced with what I can only describe as small bits of wood. The problem is that there are very sharp bits of wood and two of the children came down the slide and scratched the back of their legs. As we had a two year old we were always worried he would fall and get spells in his hands or worse. It’s a great place to have a family holiday and the amenities are brilliant. The children loved walking around the farm and we even saw a calf being born which was really special. The children absolutely loved Maud the Spanial, when she heard our cars pulling in the drive she came straight round to the house and stayed with us until bed time, a very sweet and gentle dog.

There was a games room which we did not use as the weather was so good so did not need to spend time indoors. The views from the property are stunning. If you want a relaxing break this is a great place to visit.

The kids (and adults!) can play in the stream, watch the cows being milked, collect eggs from the hens and enjoy being Incas working farm. The house is large and comfortable and the owners who live in an adjoining property are friendly and welcoming. We were lucky to have glorious weather in late October.

  • "We stayed at Hornshayne Farmhouse for a family 30th birthday celebration last weekend."

We were a party of 8 adults, 2 children and our dogs. The farm was just perfect for our requirements. The children loved all the play facilities, so many toys, games, dvds and great outside play area. The older ‘kids’ enjoyed the table tennis, pool and table football in the play barn and the dogs had some lovely walks in the acres of farmland. Sally and Andrew made us very welcome and the highlight of our visit was definitely having a tour of the farm. We saw the cows being milked and a calf born that morning being fed. Our 6 year old grandson collected eggs from the chickens with Sally and we all enjoyed cuddles with Maud’s puppies! We would recommend a holiday here.

Their two delightful sons gave us a guided tour of the farm as well one morning. Our young grandchildren were able to see cows being milked, calves being born, feed calves, fish for minnows in the nearby stream and build dams, fly kites on the hillside, see 3-day old puppies, chickens, pigs, cats dogs, and play safely in the garden with many toys to enjoy. With ancient origins, it is a characterful and welcoming house for friends and families of all ages.

The sitting room is a cosy room with an electric fire.

In true country style, the kitchen is huge and at the hub of the house with a Rayburn, a lovely room to gather and socialise in.

This is a great house for the children, with toys in the playroom and a tiny games room.

Upstairs, the five bedrooms ramble over three levels, as high as the attic.

Outside you are welcome to help feed the calves and enjoy the miles of unspoiled countryside with a river for paddling and tiddler fishing, ponds, great views and walks and quiet roads.

In the pretty garden, shared with the owners, is a picnic table, barbecue, giant draughts, shallow stream, play castle, sandpit and Wendy house.

To complete the idyllic family scene is a fun games barn.

There is plenty on this lovely farm to keep you occupied, but if you choose to venture further afield there are the Blackdown Hills to explore, the Seaton Tramway for rides through a nature reserve and the fossil hunting beaches of the Jurassic Coast.

Hornshayne Farmhouse is a magical location for enjoying a traditional farm holiday and the lovely surroundings.
