The cottage was well maintained, in a really delightful setting and in spite of the really diabolical weather we really enjoyed ourselves. The icing on the cake was watching a deer in the adjacent field whilst we were having breakfast on our last morning.

  • "This was a very comfortable cottage away from the centre of Watchet, but ideal because there were varied walks to get there taking from 10 minutes to 45 minutes, but if you didn't want to walk there seemed to be plenty of parking."

Wonderful views of the surrounding farmland and the steam train could be seen travelling through the valley below.

  • "Great stay at this characterful cottage."

Situated well for exploring the area. Comfortable inside with spacious bedrooms and homely kitchen/dining & sitting room area, with tremendous views over the hills. Everything set out well to use and lots of info provided about things to do, walks etc. The outside space is great, quiet, with a patio with dining area and garden with more seating and is spectacular to sit out and enjoy the scenery. Only downside is that if you are eating and drinking outside it involves bringing everything down the stairs as the kitchen is upstairs, which may not be convenient for everyone.

Convenient for Exmoor and the West Somerset/North Devon Coast. It's only a 10 minute walk, on footpaths, down to the charming little port of Watchet with a variety of local shops plus the railway station on the West Somerset heritage line. Situated down a quiet lane, the Well House garden is a peaceful retreat for wildlife enthusiasts. While Exmoor & Dunkery Beacon is a wonderful backdrop for the evening BBQ. Amanda and Sally-Anne provided a useful welcome pack on arrival and were on hand nearby if help or assistance was needed. All in all - A Brilliant stay.

Particularly loved the views from the cottage and enjoyed the various walks down to Watchet. The cottage is well placed for those who like the quiet and walks on the doorstep. Our hostess was quick to help us if we had a query and friendly. A welcome food pack was also left for us. The rooms were comfortable and there are lots of books and local information provided. We loved the serene position of this cottage and the scenery can be enjoyed from a private garden.

  • "September 22."

It was freezing in the house once the sun went down. There is only cheap thin plastic conservatory roofing in the main living room of the house which is ridiculous. We left a day early as it was just so cold. The heating instructions are "do not touch" which is fine and we didn't but, suspect any heat would escape through the roof anyway. Very clean, great location but spoilt by cost cutting.

hi Jacqueline, thank you very much for your positive comments about the cleanliness of the cottage and the lovely location. Regarding the roof, it was in fact standard construction for a conservatory built about 20 years ago by the previous owner. If you look at all the other customer comments no-one else has mentioned this as an issue that affected their holiday . You did meet the caretaker, who lives next door, twice so it is a pity that you did not mention to her that you felt cold because she would have arranged for the heating settings to be changed to ensure your comfort. I am pleased to tell you that the roof has been replaced this week with conventional timber and slate so is no longer a conservatory but an ordinary room. The description on Sykes' website and new photos will follow soon once redecoration has taken place. I would be very pleased to welcome you back another time. Property Owner

Very peaceful and quiet. Plenty of outside space for kids to play. Something that would be helpful would be some reflectors or light on the entrance posts by the road as coming back in the dark I missed the turn in most times. Also it’s listed as Wells cottage but the sign for the property says Wells house and we were not sure we were going to the correct property. Apart from these very very minor points we had a lovely time there and if we ever go to Watchet again we would return to Wells Cottage.
