  • "Lovely clean cottage, tidy, well kept garden, direct access to two footpaths although one is very steep, with loose flints, not suitable for anyone wanting an easy walk!"

Beautiful river and bluebell wood. Peaceful holiday with everything we needed in the cottage. Very thoughtful owners.

  • "We found Shippen cottages to be ideally located in the East Devon countryside surrounded by good walks and plenty to do with the family; Lyme Regis is about twenty minutes away and Exeter half an hour or so to the west."

The towns of Honiton and Axminster are about ten minutes drive so whilst enjoying the peaceful location you are only a few minutes drive from the main south west arterial routes. The cottage itself is well equipped, deceptively spacious and was spotlessly clean. There is underfloor heating throughout which works a treat! Outside there is a good sized child friendly balcony overlooking a secure lawned garden. There are also meadows (where we saw deer) accessed through an adjacent gateway where the owner has thoughtfully mowed a pathway up to a picnic bench (and rope swing) at the top where you can take in the views. The cottages also sit on a bridleway which appears to have little use but is well marked and gives instant access to open countryside and beautiful views along the valley. The owner really has thought of everything, right down to the conveniently placed hose pipe near the front door that we used to rinse off muddy paws! This property ticked all our boxes and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending these cottages to others and will certainly be returning!… Thank you for a wonderful stay!

  • "Friendly and helpful owners."

Lovely surprise to find eggs, cake and flowers when we arrived! The property was well equipped with everything we could possibly have needed, including binoculars for bird and wildlife watching Would definitely return in the future. Views from the property and the lovely decked balcony were amazing and we found the property very peaceful.

  • "The cottage was excellent."

Cleanliness was perfect and well equipped. Sitting on the balcony with an evening meal and a glass of wine was so relaxing. The host was very friendly and helpful. Sykes feedback page is not compatible with my iPad operating system to allow me to rate the above criteria.

  • "Such a beautiful place."

The balcony is wonderful. There's everything you could wish for in the cottage and the hosts are welcoming but discreet. The road to the cottages is very narrow, we thought we had taken the wrong route and would end up in a field! However if you persevere with the road you end up in a very peaceful and special place.

  • "The owners of the property are very consciientious about maintaining their own high standards which is spread further than points mentioned in the survey They ensure their guests can be well informed about the flora and fauna ( pocket reference books and binoculars)."

In the immediate vicinity of the cottage you can observe the birds from a picnic table in the middle of of a wild flower meadow situated on the valley side , the view is stunning. For lovers of the countryside this is a wonderful cottage.
