  • "No enclosed garden."

It stated that there was. Having a dog was the reason why we booked it. Our dog is old so we got over it. Not a lot of privacy because of this.

  • "The cottage was pretty much as expected from the description and photos, the bathroom was very dated and could definitely do with a face lift."

The biggest problem was the location, it needs to be made very clear just how isolated the property is as the surrounding roads are not for the faint hearted being only a car width wide in many places requiring one or other car to reverse to a passing point, not easy if there are several cars behind and passing places infrequent. The lack of wifi was also an issue, the cottage is listed as having it available but neither my husbands phone nor mine could connect or pick up any meaningful signal… something to be aware of should this be important to the individual. There were no places of interest leaflets available ( this may be due to Covid limitations) so you need to be pre-armed with information (especially as the internet was an issue).

  • "This is an absolutely perfect get away for de stressing and especially if you have a dog."

It’s a really dog friendly place and you can walk your dog on the land there so you don’t have to leave the grounds unless you want to explore. We used it as a base and did lots of sightseeing from here we covered parts of Somerset and Dorset as well as Devon. We had two days of torrential rain and the rest of the week was sunny but we still went out every day arriving back at our home from home at tea time. It was really well equipped and had everything we needed the bed was really comfy and the shower nice and powerful. Gorgeous spot deep in the countryside absolutely lovely. One word of warning the roads leading to Furley Cottages are very narrow and although there’s very little traffic you may sometimes have to reverse to let oncoming vehicles through. It didn’t bother us as we love remote destinations and have encountered similar roads before In Shropshire on our last Sykes holiday. Would recommend 100%.

  • "The cottage was very isolated, to get to the nearest shop you have to drive a long way through single track lanes with high hedges either side."

Very often having to reverse quite a way to allow oncoming traffic to proceed. This is an ideal location with beautiful gardens if you just want to relax and not venture out. However, if the weather is wet as it was for us, a week is too long. Also the internet signal is very weak .

  • "Cottage very well equipped in lovely surroundings."

The main disappointment for us, as elderly, was the location. It was too far to drive down single track extremely narrow lanes before reaching wider roads. Hostess very welcoming.

  • "This was a lovely cottage in wonderful grounds with lots of space where our spaniel could play."

Our hosts were friendly and helpful. They even let my husband go into their own property for a zoom meeting as the WiFi was somewhat inconsistent in our cottage. There was a bottle of wine on our arrival and friendly conversations whenever we saw them. The only reason I have put a 7 for the likelihood of recommending Sykes Cottages is because of the other cottage we stayed in during our time away. If it had only been this property I would have given a 10. Helen Clemmey

  • "A very comfortable and clean cottage with good quality mattress and bedding."

Beautiful surroundings and left to our own devices which is just how we like it! Felt very free after months of lockdown. The surrounding area is really pretty and we will miss waking up to the horses from the wondow in the opposite field. Owner left some great recommendations for pubs with amazing food. Perfect

  • "The accommodation is located in a beautiful setting and provides the necessary facilities to enjoy and have a relaxing holiday."

The only feedback I would give is that access to the cottage involves negotiating a series of single track roads, with limited places to pass, so be prepared to reverse. I would also recommend that consideration is given to providing a blind or curtain to the front door for full privacy at night. All in all however we did have a lovely holiday and particularly enjoyed watching the deer every night in the adjacent field.

  • "We received a warm welcome from the owner when we arrived."

After checking in to Boxkite Cottage we found that there was a problem with the flush system on the toilet, the owner came to see and confirmed that it would need replacing. Because it couldn't be repaired immediately, we were given another Cottage called Beaufort to move into. We cannot fault the way that the owner dealt with this matter. We had a very enjoyable week, the Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and is in a lovely rural location. To get to the Cottage you have to go a couple of miles off the main road through very narrow lanes, but you soon get used to dealing with this. Overall a very enjoyable weeks holiday.
