  • "The booking was seamless having been let down by another company."

The owners assisted before arrival and gave useful recommendations. Maple cottage is well equipped and presented beautifully and set in a courtyard setting about a mile from Chagford. There are plenty of stunning walks from your doorstep even before you start to explore all of Dartmoor. Would thoroughly recommend.

  • "Lovely, well appointed cottage in a very peaceful location."

The facilities are all finished to a very high standard, Great communication from the owners who allowed us a a much earlier arrival time. The welcome pack was very thoughtful too. Village is great and the pubs and cafes are all excellent and dog friendly. We would highly recommend Maple Cottage to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway.

  • "Wow! So many times we’ve been to properties and been disappointed that the photos don’t really give the truest reflection."

Maybe this was also true here, but only because the photos don’t do it justice!!! The cottage is stunning - decorated beautifully, immaculate, comfortable and well-equipped. There was a lovely welcome basket for our arrival and that set the tone - there was absolutely nothing we’d change. Simply stunning.

Caroline, thank you for such a lovely review. We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Maple. We have tried to create a comfortable environment whilst maintaining the ‘Natural Dartmoor’ feel. We do hope you visit us again. Thank you, Danny and Barb Property Owner

Never stayed somewhere that had everything you need and more. Lovey comfy beds and tastefully decorated. Will definitely be returning.

We're very pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thanks also for the comment about the cottage being well equipped. As we have stayed in many cottages over the years, we learnt very quickly that having everything to hand makes the stay that much more comfortable. We'd love to welcome you back one day. • "The cottage was very clean and comfortable."

The bed was very comfortable. There were some lovely touches, lights that came on when you entered the bathroom. A lovely welcome pack but sadly the cream had not been put in the fridge and it was warm when we arrived so had to be thrown away. Two personal observations, it would have been good to have a night light at the top of the stairs as there was a step up into both bedroom, just far safety sake. Also the only mirror available was in the bathroom so there was no mirror to be able to dry your hair by.

  • "The property has been renovated to a very good standard, with all mod cons."

It was warm, comfortable and well equipped. Communication with Danny & Barbara was friendly and prompt. The access is extremely narrow if you are not used to single track roads, but it is in a great position for walking into Chagford, which has a lovely range of shops, cafes and pubs. There are also paths off the road that led to local viewpoints. It is not far from Castle Drogo, Mortonhampstead, Stone Lane Gardens and lots of river walks too, so plenty to do whilst enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the cottage. We had a great week at Great Weeke.

Many thanks Denise for your review, so glad you had a relaxing time at Maple Cottage and hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is a charming well equipped holiday home."

It is next to a working farm and there are sheep roaming the lanes. It was idyllic and away from all the hustle and bustle. It was immaculate. Just one small issue was the lack of wardrobe space in one bedroom and I wondered if a tallboy would fit. However there is tons of space in the other bedroom if you don't mind sharing hanging space. I dont think I have missed a cottage so much after I have left before. Simply lovely

  • "The cottage was fantastic."

Everything was clean & looked new. There was everything you needed for a home from home holiday. In the middle of no where with only the sound of the country, My only criticism was that yes the nearest pub was only 1 mile away which is about a 20 min walk. The listing did not highlight that it was down a single track country lane with now path & it was up & down. Not ideal for elderly or infirm. But it was a lovely place & we will definitely be booking again in the future.

Thank you Elaine. We appreciate the feedback and your comment about the narrow Devon lane, we will amend our house notes. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Maple and would love to welcome you back again one day. Danny & Barb Property Owner

  • "I had a very good holiday based at this cottage for 2 weeks."

It's comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped (there wasn't anything I went looking for that I didn't find). The parking is convenient, very close to the front door. I liked how quiet it was, apart from the occasional car or tractor passing the only sounds are sounds of nature. I appreciated the Dartmoor map and the books of walks and Dartmoor information. Thanks Danny & Barbara.

Alan, thank you for your great feedback which is always welcome. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you so much for leaving the cottage in such a pristine condition. Our housekeeper was very happy. We'd love to welcome you back some time. Danny & Barb Property Owner

Loved the welcome basket upon arrival and all in all we had a great time at this dog friendly Cottage.

  • "Maple cottage is a beautifully presented cottage, with all mod cons for a comfortable stay and really well equipped kitchen."

It is in a remote location but very short drive to Chagford (which offers pubs, restaurants and several shops, art gallery etc) within stunning Dartmoor countryside. Access lanes are narrow but this seems normal for this area. Quiet rural location, great local walks. The coastline of South Devon is also within reach or I recommend the Paignton-Dartmouth steam train and Dartmouth river cruise for a good day trip if wish to see the beautiful coastline as well as local Dartmoor areas.

Thank you Anna for your positive comments. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay at Maple Cottage. It’s been a journey to get the house to a ‘loved’ state again, so we’re pleased to be able to share with our guests. Thank you, Danny & Barbara Property Owner

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback, we are pleased you enjoyed the property. We have spoken with the owner who was very sorry that you were not able to light the fire, unfortunately they had not anticipated that it may be needed in September. There is now a plentiful supply of logs and the wood burner is available for use. Property Owner

The property

Situated just a mile from the bustling square of the popular Dartmoor town of Chagford in Devon, is this Grade II listed cottage.

Beautifully converted, Maple Cottage sits alongside just four other cottages crafted from traditional stone barns in a quiet private courtyard.

Stylish and thoroughly well done, the interior space has been carefully designed using light and colour to create a wonderfully relaxing, contemporary retreat.

After a day on the moor, there can be nothing nicer than to settle down in front of the crackling wood burning stove with a favourite film and a glass of something cool.

On the first floor under the eaves are two tranquil bedrooms perfect for a peaceful night's sleep.

At the front of the cottage is a terraced garden where you can sit out and enjoy a relaxed supper or morning coffee.

With lovely countryside all around, this is a great area for exploring.

Head along the winding lane into Chagford to explore the little shops followed by a pub lunch in a choice of excellent inns.

In the summer months, you can take a dip in the town's famous fresh water lido.

Dartmoor's vast open spaces are within easy reach; explore on foot, bike or car.

Castle Drogo sitting high above the Teign Valley is a National Trust gem and well worth a visit.

Further afield, the historic Cathedral town of Exeter and sandy beaches of the South Hams are within an easy drive.

Maple Cottage is an idyllic place for enjoying stunning scenery and complete relaxation.
