  • "This is a quite stunning apartment in a truly beautiful part of Devon."

If you like tranquility, stupendous sea views and peace and quiet you will not find anywhere better than this lovely bright apartment. This is our 3rd year in a row of visiting no9. We plan to continue visiting it for the foreseeable future.

  • "The property was absolutely beautiful."

The only things that would help improve the stay, would be a smart TV so we could log into our Netflix/Prime accounts to watch a family movie (kids didn’t appreciate normal TV channels!). Also, seating around the pool to be able to enjoy it more. I saw families sat in the floor, we took our camping chairs down.

Thank you for your feedback, we will look into Smart TV, as an addition to normal channels. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful and comfy flat."

The view is stunning and we felt from the very first minute like at home. It has everything you need for a fabulous stay. Only the kitchen utensils were very greasy and dirty, but most women always clean everything before they use it anyway. Unfortunately, the cupboards were all full of dog hair, which is very unhygienic and needs a basic cleaning first. But on the surface it was clean. As we arrived very late and it was dark we didn't found the houses and were struggling with our navigation and googlemaps. The last stretch after a larger private car park, which is marked with a stop sign and there are also repeated signs saying that you cannot stop or turn around after this point, must be disregarded! There is then only a very narrow and densely overgrown little road and warning signs again and again, and when you get there you are exactly right. We were afraid that we wouldn't be able to reverse out of it because it is really curvy and narrow, but there is enough space to park and turn around just in front of the houses. And it is worth renting this very remote flat.

  • "It's a lovely apartment."

Stunning views and so peaceful. Fascinating history. New carpet throughout. We felt that it needs some attention to details like re-freshing the kitchen equipment. Old frying pans and tins, old kitchen knives, utensils, broken casserole etc were a bit random. Would be great to have local OS maps. The real highlight was swimming in the heated outdoor pool but unlike the photo, there was no furniture outside to sit on - which was important as this flat is upstairs with no outdoor space of its own. The access lane is somewhat scary to manoeuvre and it would be helpful for guests to be aware of that as it would not be good to return in the dark, wet weather or in the winter. Our first stay in a property that did not provide a welcome pack which would have been more friendly given the remote location.

  • "The flat at Hallsands was fantastic, for three solo adults (unaccompanied in the partner sense), we wanted our own rooms and were surprised to find that the single bed was easily big enough for any of us, having previously thought two of us might need to share or one sleep on the futon."

So, we all had comfortable, separate rooms. The kitchen / lounge / diner was a fabulous space and very well equipped. Equally the bathrooms were both very nice, bright and with powerful baths / shower facilities. We thought the lighting throughout was particularly fab. The only observations or areas for improvement would be to buy a heavier doorstop as the one for the front door is not heavy enough and to get some new keys cut as the current ones are a bit rusty / prone to sticking. Other than this everything was genuinely great. Thank you for a lovely stay in a superb location.

  • "9 Prospect House is a stunning apartment in a stunning location."

If anything the marketing doesn’t do justice to just how lovely the apartment is and what stunning views greet you from every room. The flat was lovely and clean and the perfect base from which to enjoy the rugged yet quiet charms of that delightful corner of the South Hams.

  • "A beautiful apartment."

Much more spacious than the photos would lead you to believe. Could do with a bit of cobweb removal and a general tidy out as there is a lot unnecessary mess in the drawers, other than that it is a great property with lovely views. The one thing that could really be improved on is the hospitality aspect though. Not even a pint of milk was left and due to the remote location this would have really been appreciated. There was nothing at all left as a welcome so very poor in this respect. A second key for the door would also be of benefit. A bit of advice involving minimal effort...Give the place a proper clean, provide a welcone pack and a spare key and this would be a five star property. !

  • "A last minute holiday - our first in the UK for over 40 years!"

Prospect House is in an isolated location - several miles down narrow country lanes - but what a location. 9 Prospect House was immaculately clean, well presented and comfortable. We would have no hesitation in recommending it if you want a quiet break. The apartment is at the top of the building, so may not have the direct sea views from the living room that some of the lower level properties did, but that doesn't detract from its charm and there were stunning seafront views from the main bedroom and the kitchen. In additional to some wonderful walks along the coastal path, there are some wonderful small towns in the area, including Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth. We also visited Salcombe, but found that a little too touristy for our liking. Had some great meals and can thoroughly recommend Radius 7 in Stoke Fleming, Pie Street in Totnes and the restaurant at Stokely Farm Shop. All in all, a lovely holiday. Planning on returning next Easter.

  • "First I would like to say that the layout of this apartment is excellent, as are the views."

It is a very isolated, although very interesting, location but lovely to so close to the sea and SW Coast Path. The bed was comfortable and almost everything and everywhere was clean. The shower room was lovely to use. There is a good sized fridge/freezer and microwave, sufficient pots, pans and crockery etc too. However, in the description the hob is listed as an induction hob. It is not. It is a halogen hob. The dining chairs are a bit grubby and rickety - I got a huge amount of dirt off of the paintwork on the ones we chose to use, using a damp cloth and flash and the fabric seats had some stains on them. The en-suite bathroom is a bit tired, with paintwork needing to be touched up in places - and the shower over the bath there could only be comfortably used by a child. In the kitchen the small drawers were full of clutter that were uninviting to attempt to look through - in fact there was quite a lot of general clutter in most of the storage spaces not just in the kitchen and we had to move a lot of it just to make room for our groceries. There were three information books giving conflicting information on the dos and don't etc for this property, which was confusing - maybe there should be just one that is based on the current Covid situation. It was disappointing to find that there were no facilities to recycle paper, cardboard, glass, cans and no information as to where or how we could do this at all.

  • "Fabulous apartment with really good facilities."

Would definitely recommend to others. It’s a great base for exploring South Devon. We had fabulous weather when we stayed and were really able to enjoy the juliet balcony, pool and gardens. I only have two minor comments. There is a Nespresso coffee machine provided and the owners even provide a few capsules, which is a nice touch, but understandably not enough to last a week. But this isn’t included in the details, so I could have easily brought my own capsules for the week and I known. This is a great added extra and should definitely be mentioned. Also the roads getting to the apartment are narrow and difficult, nothing anyone can do to change this, just be prepared.

  • "A unique apartment."

A spacious, light and airy loft with wonderful sea views at the front and beautiful hillside views to the rear. The attractive Shaker styling suited the building, and the decor in all the rooms was well maintained. The kitchen was well appointed and had the best view of the sea. The dining/lounge was delightful, stylish and comfortable. Bathrooms were light and airy and well maintained as were the bedrooms. We paricularly enjoyed the view from the Juliette balcony, and the atmospheric lighting in the lounge. A delightful apartment , comfortable and a joy to return to in the evening.

About the location

HALLSANDS

Start Point 1.5 miles; Beesands 3 miles; East Portlemouth 5.5 miles; Kingsbridge 8 miles.

Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline, near Salcombe in the beautiful South Hams area. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, just three miles from the popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers who take advantage of the South West Coast Path, peppered with perfect picnic spots. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blackpool Sands and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced; explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, and stroll along Slapton Beach, feeling the soft sand between your toes. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the ferry across to the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.

This property accommodates five guests comfortably, but can sleep up to six people. Futon available in single room to sleep one child.

Please note this is not a specific holiday complex: there are full time residents on site all year round so please be respectful of the neighbours.

The swimming pool is open from May - mid September (subject to change without further notice). Due to Covid-19 restrictions the swimming pool may not be open during your stay.

All bed linen and bath/hand towels are supplied. You will need to bring your own tea towels and towels for the pool/beach.

No pets permitted.

Telephone available.

Due to the close proximity to the cliff edge, children and dogs should be supervised at all times.
