  • "We had a fabulous stay here over half term."

2 adults and 3 children plus a cocker spaniel. Lovely welcome pack in the cottage on arrival. All beds were super comfy and everyone slept well. Kitchen is very small with almost no storage space for any food you bring, also no washing machine (first self catering cottage I’ve stayed in which doesn’t have one). The stairs are very steep/shallow (which maybe an issue for older people) and the bathroom is on the ground floor. The stairs are very steep with low ceiling and the bathroom is on the ground floor. The garden is enclosed and safe for the dog but no grass however lovely dog walks just 5 mins away. The village is lovely with pubs and shop. There is no parking at the cottage, however the public car park was just around the corner which is free. This could be busy in peak season. We would recommend a stay here and would love to visit again.

Hi Karen, Many thanks for your comments and really please that you enjoyed your stay in our 200+ year old cottage. We considered having a washing machine but opted for a dishwasher instead which we believe is more important and useful for what are predominately 1 week stays - all details of what is provided in the cottage are on the Sykes website. You are correct that the free public car park does get busy in the summer but we have not had a problem parking there or relatively close to the cottage in the surrounding streets - we provide all guests with a map of the best places to park. We hope that we shall see you back again sometime in the future Best regards Graeme Property Owner

  • "The cottage was so lovely & had everything we needed."

It’s location was great and just wished we were staying for a week instead of a weekend! Found the locals to be friendly & helpful. Lovely food at the Anchor Pub. Great Dog walk just a few minutes walk away through the woods full of Bluebells.Highly recommend this Cottage & location.

Tanya, thanks for your great comments and positive feedback . Really pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and, at least, one of the local hostelries. The pubs are getting better all the time and there is now great choice in the village without having to drive anywhere. Hope that we see you back sometime in the future All the best Graeme Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 82 The Square."

It’s a lovely cosy, comfortable cottage in a very tucked away location in the heart of the village. Village shop, cafe and pubs are all close by and there is a wooded valley which was perfect for our morning dog walk. Another lamp or two in the lounge and in the dining room would be useful for evenings or dull days when you want to read. But other than that it was really well furnished. Loved the local area. Great beaches and cliff top walks as well as shady woodland valleys to explore and the Hartland Abbey gardens were beautiful. Will definitely be back.

Hi Ruth Thanks for your kind comments about our cottage and the location - as you say great for the early morning dog walks without having to get in the car. Really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we shalllook at your suggestion to increase the lamps in the reception rooms. We hope that we shall see you again, sometime Best regards Graeme Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic stay at the cottage."

It is so cosy and comfortable. Although it is opposite a pub, the house is quiet because it is set back with it's own walled courtyard garden so feels very private. The kitchen is well equipped. The living spaces are very comfortable as are the bedrooms. The information provided by the owner was very comprehensive and welcoming.

Jane, Thanks for your feedback and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage in Hartland. Like you, we are often amazed how quiet it is despite being in the centre of the village - it really is tucked away although I suspect the thick stone walls have something to do with the peacefulness as well! • "Lovely cottage had everything we needed."

Great village tried all 3 pubs! The Hart Inn was our favourite. Great location with so many different places to visit not too far away

Nicola, Hartland is a greta location and is really an unspoilt village with great amenities and lots of charm. Glad that you managed to try out the three pubs, all quite different and all only a short walk away. As you enjoyed the local pubs we hope that you might visit our cottage again when it would be worth trying out Pattards restaurant if you fancy some fine dining or, slighly further afield, The Farmers Arms at Woolfardisworthy. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your visit to the tranquility and interest that North Devon provides. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage and well equipped."

Master bed was very comfortable and log burner in living room kept us cosy. Lovely village and good location for exploring North Devon and Cornwall.

Stacey, Many thanks for your feedback and kind comments. We can only concur with you that Hartland is a great base for exploring North Devon and Cornwall and yet has all the amenities that you would expect of a larger community with pubs, shops, post office, doctors surgery and vets .... along with some very good craft outlets. Really glad that ypu enjoyed your visit and we hope that we shall welcome you again to our cottage in the future. Property Owner

David, Thanks for your feedback. The heating times have been increased upstairs and now come on earlier than before. As previously explained in my initial email this is a newly installed heating system and we particularly welcome the comment on your heating comfort as we try to get the balance right. This is a 200+ year-old period cottage and the character is such that the bathroom cannot be increased in size. However, the cottage often has had six guests staying and we have not been made aware of any real issues. While I understand your desire that another shower/toilet was available for full occupancy we have also holidayed there with six of us without any problems. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage in a beautiful friendly village."

Cottage very comfortable and well managed and maintained. Lovely location and near to larger towns should you wish to visit them. Only one pub open during our stay and the cafe closed but that wasn't anyone's fault. Would definitely stay again. Only down was not enough fire wood had to buy more.

Dawn We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our cottage and fully concur that Hartland is a really friendly village with great amenities. All pubs and cafe are now open again and we hope that this stays that way. We set the wooodburner for each set of guests and provide a full basket of logs and advise that, should you need more, then firewood is available to purchase from the village shop around 100m away. We shall make this clearer in the instructions that we provide in advance of guests arriving. We have also recently installed a new heating system so that the cottage is warm even if the woodburner is not in use and have received positive comments about this improvement. Property Owner

  • "We had a great week in this lovely house."

The house is set back from the road and secluded. It is very well equipped, with everything you could need. It was very clean and tidy. Hartland is a very friendly village and there were fantastic walks 2 minutes from the house. Parking is in the main village car park but we never had an issue getting a space. There are lots of amenities in the village - f&c, cafe, pubs, shop, post office etc. The garden was good for our dog. Our only suggestion and it is minor, would be for a bolt to be put on the inside of the front garden gate as we were worried that the gate would come open or someone would leave it open and our dog would get out onto the road. We would definitely stay in this house again.

  • "We really enjoyed staying at the cottage."

It was beautiful, cosy, homely and ideally situated for for those exploring North Devon as well as Cornwall. The property was nicely nestled away making for very private accommodation, with bonus of nearby free parking in the friendly village. Property was light and airy for warm days, and did not take long to warm up with the fire places for chilly cosy nights. Instructions left by the owners were very clear and concise making it simple to get to grips with the property in no time at all, including use of oil burners and log burners which we were able to use with ease. Local recommendations/guidance were also available in the same manner. Property was very clean and tidy. They are clearly well organised with current government guidelines regarding Covid-19, and made us feel covid-safe. They were also very friendly and quick to answer any questions via email that we had prior to our arrival. Thank you so much. We loved our stay and would come back again.
