  • "We had a most enjoyable stay in Teacher's Cottage and the accommodation and layout was better than we expected."

Although just off a crossroad the cottage was very peaceful and free parking just a short distance away was no problem. The entrance gate was hard to open but given the wet weather it was understandable. Would definitely recommend staying.

  • "This is a peach of a cottage."

Bathroom, kitchen and living rooms are large and airy, it feels like home as soon as you walk in. Though I wish I had half the decorators panache! Bedrooms would have benefitted from being bigger, but they were good for the amount of time we were there. The bed was very comfortable to sleep on. The fan was a boon, as the window faces the ‘wrong direction’ for the breeze in the week we stayed. Only the stairs were difficult for us - but not an insurmountable problem. (No pun intended.) The village of Wiveliscombe is a total gem and this property is perfectly placed to enjoy the village centre.

  • "The place was really nice, with real "english atmosphere" !"

We really liked it. A bit annoying was, that the cleaning was not done when we arrived and we needed to contact for help. But then after some time the cleaning stuff arrived and we got it cleaned basically .. but this was a bit destroying our first impression while arriving. After that we really loved to be in this cottage and it really has everything what we needed in kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. We would book it again!

  • "We struggled to find the cottage at first, if we were told it was by the traffic lights it would have made it easier to find."

The place looked clean but a lot of the furniture was in need of a re-vamp. We were very disappointed with the courtyard as it was overgrown and dirty looking making us feel we could not sit out in it. The bathroom was lovely and it was nice to have a washing machine and tumble dryer. I would not recommend this place for anyone with young ones as the stairs are quite steep and can be slippery. The cottage was nicely situated making it easy to visit lots of different places easy to visit which helped to make our short stay enjoyable.

  • "The property have everything for a family holiday, there are books, games and dvds in abundance."

It’s situated right in the middle of the village with two lovely pubs where you can enjoy some good food and some very nice takeaways. Everyone is so friendly and it offers some great walks for the dogs. My only criticism is the garden area needs a bit of tidying, some weed killer and a jet wash would greatly improve it. We absolutely loved the quirkiness of the cottage and would definitely stay again with our 2 little dogs.

  • "Going through previous reviews I would like to say all the areas which were negative have been addressed."

There is a lovely new bathroom, must of been a change in cleaners as it was spotless, and a lovely welcome package was left for us milk , bread etc The cottage is utterly charming and comfortable over 3 floors with big squashy sofas , comfortable bed and a very well equipped kitchen there is a washing machine and tumble dryer for your convenience which is handy if You have children with you ( we didn’t but when the kids were little would of been a god send ) Parking is 2 minutes walk away and is free, The village has lots of shops and pubs and is very friendly. It was really quiet considering it’s on a main road but isn’t that busy . Would recommend this cottage highly and would definitely book again .

Hi Fiona, thank you so much for your comments - we have really tried to take on board feedback so we appreciate you noticing. Glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Loose rugs on wooden floors could be a hazard, maybe some slip-proof matting underneath would be good?"

Lock on front door is temperamental . Could maybe get a little more kichen equipment, we had to buy a bottle opener! Otherwise a lovely quirky little house with loads of character, great position in a charming little town.

  • "A lovely cottage!"

Worth noting lack of parking space (though available in nearby free car park) and lots of stairs if that might be difficult. But facilities and equipment perfect for us (family of four), all very comfortable, we enjoyed the book collection, and we loved Wiveliscombe!

  • "Lovely cottage, actually nicer than the photos."

The only downside was lack of any basics like salt or pepper and olive oil, or washing up sponges. Otherwise really nice spacious cottage.

  • "Adequate accommodation house is a little care worn."

Bathroom needs updating . outside space is a disgrace full of weeds. I think the owner needs to get a grip of the situation and invest in a maintenance program on the property.

  • "The cottage itself was dirty, I’ve never had to clean a bedroom before in a holiday let but there was thick dust on every surface and beneath the bed."

The owners also thought it was acceptable to have a broken shower fixing. The photos show that that bathroom was dated which is fine but the level of cleanliness was awful. The bath was stained, the boxing in and floor area around the wc/basin is chipped and smells. The owners have filled the property with lots of bric-a-brac and books which do cause a lot of dust. The books on the stairs all need a wipe, the piano in the living room also had thick dust which had to be cleaned as we were being affected by it. They’ve invested in the kitchen but again far too much stuff in there plus an expensive branded fridge which all things considered the funds could have been spent on a new bathroom suite. Top tip plastic baths are not the best to stand in. Deeply disappointed and this is the first negative review I have ever submitted. We didn’t contact the owners as we felt it might have tainted the enjoyment of our week in this lovely part of the country.

Thank you for your feedback.I am sorry the house did not meet your expectations. I am using a cleaning company to manage the house for me as I am currently out of the country so I will speak to them about the cleanliness issues, I cannot apologise enough for this.If you had contacted Sykes or used the contact number provided we could have done our utmost to address the issues. As for the bathroom, it is dated I do acknowledge that, and is on my list of things to update though I haven't yet had a chance with COVID and my current deployment (I am in the military). I will prioritise that when I return. Property Owner

There was no face or hand wash no washing up liquid and only one dish washer tablet we had to buy these from the local coop

Mr Taylor, I am so sorry to hear that the house didn't meet your expectations in your recent visit. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, I will endeavour to ensure that the correct items are left for future guests. Property Owner
