  • "We found Victoria Cottages a comfortable and convenient place to stay for a week."

It is a compact size but perfectly fine for a couple or family with one child, like us. The cottage is nicely decorated and has a well equipped kitchen. There is no parking at the cottage but we bought a weekly parking permit for the local car parks which are nearby and have ample space. Lynton and Lynmouth has all the amenities that you would want with grocery shops, pubs, cafes and takeaways. It was also a good base for exploring the North Devon area. I would say that this property would not suit anyone with mobility issues as access is up a steep path and there are also steep stairs within. We felt it was good value and did the job.

We are delighted that you found the cottage cosy ,comfortable and ideally situated for your North Devon Holiday. We hope you had a thoroughly good time and enjoyed all the joys that Exmoor has to offer. Property Owner

  • "My teenage daughter and I have just returned from our week's holiday at 1 Victoria Cottage."

The cottage is a perfect location for Lynton (shops, cafes, walks, etc). The upstairs of the cottage was so comfortable, light and airy and peaceful. There wasn't any wardrobe space upstairs, but plenty of drawer space. A few coathangers and hooks were available. The downstairs of the cottage was okay, nice cosy lounge/kitchen area. The kitchen was small but serviceable for our needs. Unfortunately, the bathroom area did let this cottage down and because of this we probably wouldn't stay here again. It had not been cleaned very well and just wasn't very nice. We did report this to the owner at the end of the week so I'm sure the cleanliness will be improved. The cottage is fairly small and I think if there were 2 adults and a teenager, it would be too small. I do think that this cottage shouldn't advertise as having a garden as there really isn't one, just a decking area. We decided not to take our dog in the end and I'm glad we didn't. There isn't a garden or outside area for your dog to go to the toilet so if you don't want an early and late toilet break for your dog, this isn't the right place for you. The wifi was very temperamental but seemed to work better upstairs in the main bedroom. We did appreciate the board games with the weather being so grim.

Thank you for giving your feedback on your holiday at 1, Victoria Cottages and we are pleased you found the cottage cosy and comfortable. We are very sorry to hear the shower room was less than satisfactory on your arrival. We have discussed this with our cleaning company and have arranged that we visit the cottage ourselves this coming weekend to assess and resolve any of the issues. With regard to the advertising of the cottage, the description states there is an enclosed decking area and does not mention a garden . However, we note the words "garden/patio" are mentioned in the features heading section. We will therefore contact Sykes to have the word "garden" removed so there are no misunderstandings. We do welcome guests with dogs as Exmoor is a dog walkers paradise with so many wonderful paths to explore. However, as you mentioned, as the outside space is a decking area so we ask that dogs are exercised off site. We are dog owners ourselves and enjoy the morning and evening walks as the area is so beautiful but I appreciate this may not be to everyone's enjoyment! Property Owner

  • "The cottage was perfect!"

A lovely space, light and airy, peaceful. Very clean and had everything we needed. The outdoor area was a bonus to make use of. Great location and we can’t wait to go back.

Thank you for taking the time to write your positive review. We are absolutely delighted that you loved the cottage and found it's location ideal for your Exmoor holiday. We are so pleased that you had a great holiday and very much look forward to seeing you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is situated right in the centre of Lynton and very close to the amenities in the village."

If you are looking to travel with your dog it is worth noting that there is no where on site for dog toilet visits. Whilst there are lots of nice places to walk nearby but first and last visits of the day need to be taken elsewhere which for us didn't make a relaxing start or end to the day. The cottages is reasonably well equipped although we found there was only just enough hot water for two showers. A few tea towels would have been helpful too. We needed to contact the owner a couple of times during our stay who was very helpful and responsive. As others have mentioned the beds are extremely comfortable.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on your stay at the cottage and hope you had a thoroughly enjoyable time in Exmoor. We were very happy to help when you contacted us with regard to the hot water and advising you of the boost button for guests to use to give extra hot water when required which is printed in the cottage information folder. We are sorry that you did not receive tea towels which we normally supply and I will contact our cleaning company to make sure they are left for any future guests. Property Owner

  • "Very cramped kitchen."

No grass in close surroundings for dog

We are sorry that you found the kitchen small. However, a number of our other guests have stated it is very well equipped and we hope you found this too. The cottage is situated in the town which makes it very convenient for restaurants, shops, cinema etc. There is a park at the end of Lydiate Lane which is approx 5 minutes walk from the cottage to exercise dogs. There is also a footpath next to the park which leads to the Valley of the Rocks as well as the South West Coast Path all within a few minutes walk from the cottage. Although we have provided an OS Map in the cottage for guests to use, we will endeavor to provide one that highlights these areas for future guests with dogs. Property Owner

  • "1 Victoria cottage is fabulous."

It was an ideal base for our winter walking holiday. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very warm with the underfloor heating. We took logs for wood burner but didn’t need to use it ! Bed comfy, sheets felt brand new. We loved it and can’t fault it

Thank you for your positive comments on your holiday. We are delighted that you loved the cottage and found it warm and comfortable. Exmoor is beautiful in all the seasons and we are glad you enjoyed your winter walking holiday and hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "It is a lovely holiday cottage and we enjoyed ourselves."

It would have been more comfortable if there was carpet on the stairs. The cleaning people arrived to clean after we had already arrived at 3pm so did not do a complete clean. They also when collecting their cleaning items took our car keys which were only returned to us on the Monday evening after we contacted the owner who then had to contact the cleaning company. Not quite sure what they would have done with the keys if we hadn't contacted the owner so not a good service and no apologies for taking them.

Thankyou for this feed back and thankyou for your kind score considering the difficulties regarding your keys! I am sorry the cleaning company were so hard to reach and were late in cleaning the property. We have been generally pleased with our cleaners and will discuss this issue with them with the aim it doesn't happen again. I'm glad you still had an enjoyable time. Property Owner

  • "Quite steep even for normal people and really could do with a washer/dryer for a week."

Looked alittle tatty downstairs with cracked floor tiles but lovely location. Bed super comfy really lovely Difficult to get food in the evening in September. Feel this is an issue with staffing at places and cost. This was in lynton.

Thankyou for your response. We are sorry you felt the appearance downstairs to be a little 'tatty' as we decorated and furnished the cottage with new furniture and appliances this spring. We are aware however that some floor tiles are due for repair and will be planning a time to do this out of season. It was decided at the time not to include a washer/dryer as this was not suitable with the limited space downstairs and so we advertise the property without this facility. A good laundrette is a short walk in the centre of Lynton. We understand the path accessing the house is uphill but not a great distance and much of it with a handrail for those who may need it (we feel it is difficult to walk around the town of Lynton and surrounding area without encountering such hills!) We are pleased you appreciated the location of the cottage and found the bed comfortable as we feel this is an extremely important feature of anybody's stay. Property Owner

  • "Great location for Lynton shops, restaurants & coastal walking."

The small outside space was very welcome & a good place to spend time in the early evening. Parking in town car parks was no problem with weekly pass. We enjoyed our holiday.

  • "Enjoyed my stay, everything was easy to do."

Cottage was clean and bed was super comfy. My only complaints would be that there was nowhere to wash any clothes, and the shower/ toilet room never really dries out, so the place smells a bit damp. Otherwise, everything was really lovely. I would use Sykes again, as the whole thing was hassle free. Thanks, Marcus Smith.

Thankyou for your review and we are pleased that you enjoyed the cottage. We are particularly glad you found the bed comfy as we have always thought a good bed is important in a holiday let. Thanks also for your feedback on the shower room. We will look into seeing if we can increase the time settings on the extractor fan to improve this. Thankyou also for the high rating you gave us, it makes all the work we have done with the cottage worth while. Property Owner

Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the heart of Lynton, thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the cottage was to your liking. Thanks also for the feedback on the access path which is a shared ownership. We are in the process of speaking to our neighbours about re surfacing this and hope to have a plan soon. We are glad you enjoyed Lynton and the surrounding area and hope you will be back to visit again in the future. Property Owner
