  • "A lovely cottage, well decorated and furnished."

However, the directions given were totally misleading, taking us up a lane that was incorrect, on the other side of the road, losing time in the rain. Much was missing: washing machine (though your automated instructions - for other cottages - had said to bring clothes washing soap), salad bowl, mixer, whisk, knife sharpener, saucers, jugs, soap in empty dispenser, blind at kitchen window, blind/curtain at front door. The main thing missing, despite your mention of the environment over electricity, was NO RECYCLING provision. This was disgraceful in a town where recycling exists (we saw the collectors) - only one bin for rubbish. The window in the front bedroom did not close properly. It was COLD and there were no heating facilities for wet clothes and the general storage heaters were difficult to control, despite instructions. No VACUUM CLEANER though you had said we should keep things well clean etc. So although the cottage is comfy, it is very basic and incomplete in essentials.

We apologise you seem to have not enjoyed your stay at wood cottage, disappointing to hear when we work so hard to make it as comfortable as possible. We have never had any feedback about incorrect directions so we will look into that and correct as needed. Mugs are provided therefore no saucers, there was a pirex jug however I noticed this has disappeared so I think it may have been broken by another guest, unfortunately we have no space for a washing machine or dishwasher without making the kitchen very cramped and so we have decided not to provide these and that is clear in our advert. Unfortunately for numerous reasons the recycling of which there are 4 different boxes/bags was just not working with majority of our guests and so we again took the reluctant decision to remove them. Although storage heaters cannot be covered with fabrics there is a clothes horse in the cupboard that can be placed near the heaters. Having been to the property last week all of the windows were working perfectly, they open in two different directions so maybe you hadn’t quite got it in the correct place. Once again we are sorry Wood cottage didn’t provide what you were looking for. Property Owner

  • "Need to ensure heating and hot water are switched on before the arrival of guests."

We had to call a local number to organise this. Need a wardrobe or two in the bedrooms, lack of storage space. Needs a dishwasher Certainly needs loads of extra lighting in the living room. Too dark to do anything in the daytime or evening lights off or on !!!!!

  • "Comfortable cottage and very quiet, even though it’s on a thoroughfare."

Bedrooms were bright and comfortable, though downstairs lounge is quite dark. Really good shower. It is well equipped but no cafetière if you drink coffee, so bring your own. You can sit outside but the view is of some garages, so not very scenic! All in all, we had a good stay and would recommend.

  • "Wonderful holiday cottage, absolutely perfect for a seaside holiday!"

Also really appreciated the owners quick response to a question prior to our stay. Will hopefully be staying again next year!

  • "Everything great, all you need for a holiday."

Good sized rooms, furnished well, clean, tidy and fresh. Great shower and plenty of hot water. Kitchen had plenty of pans, plates etc. Outside seating was nice and sunny. Parking outside the house from late pm to mid morning was absolutely fine, we did buy a parking permit for multiple car parks to make sure parking wasnt a problem. Great location for shops, beaches annd walks.

  • "Property was overall as expected and nicely decorated."

Generally quite clean but cutlery draw was dirty and dusty, as was much of the crockery and cutlery. Freezer draw needed defrosting and wouldn’t close. Description mentions coffee machine or coffee pods, I believe, which there wasn’t but I was quite surprised to find there wasn’t even a cafetière (first place I’ve stayed that doesn’t at least have that). The outside area is ok, possibly nicer in the full height of summer when the plant grows to conceal what’s around it - just be aware that it is in front of some old rusty garages and there is currently a full skip right next to it, so it wasn’t that pleasant. As others have mentioned, there is a lack of natural light in the living/dining area and it’s dark and the lighting is poor even in the daytime. It’s insufficient really. My father was quite comfortable in his room but we found our mattress and pillows to be dreadfully uncomfortable (hardly slept and had back ache which I’ve never had - clearly all very budget. It was a large contributor to us leaving a day early. Finally, we knew what to expect with the parking but just be aware that on a bank holiday/high season etc you would be lucky to get a parking space in the daytime, so it makes taking the car out difficult with no guarantee of being able to park when you get back. Lynton is lovely though so the area is highly recommended.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Wood cottage and it was ideal for us as two friends doing the SW coastal path walk I would recommend adding a few extra kitchen items such as non stick frying pan better ice cube tray and some mixing bowls Also the bathroom extractor fan is very noisy and quieter models are available lighting for reading in the lounge is challenging as it’s mainly mood/ atmospheric lighting The instructions for recycling were not clear - only stated putting rubbish in the bin and be good to know collection dates Overall though a very nice place to stay
