  • "Bayview Tower surpassed our expectations - the property is huge and the views spectacular!"

Very clean, every need for a holiday ‘home from home’ thought of, very comfortable first floor bed with a huge bath in the en suite, powerful shower in the top room, plenty of garden furniture on the private patio! The welcome gifts were a very nice touch and to top all of this, an Alexa in the lounge & bedroom! We don’t own an Alexa so thoroughly enjoyed evenings listening to songs from our youth. Perfectly situated for fabulous views of the bay, obviously high up being in Lynton, we were grateful for the funicular railway to get us down into Lynmouth. £3.20 each, each way - an amazing experience. If after 6pm we would get a taxi back up for £3.50. Thank you so much for a holiday full of wonderful memories.

The patio was messy needs weeding and the plants in the reception all had white fly .I think the cost reflects the views mainly.the water power train is great overall a nice place just needs looking after

Thanks for the feedback Julie. The view is amazing and you are right that this is a big attraction for the property. I have asked the cleaner to check the carpet in the upstairs bedrooms and to report back to us. The property is refreshed as needed in the winter period and we have just installed a new en-suite to the master bedroom. I appreciate your feedback and will look to improve the areas you have pointed out. Property Owner

Fantastic views, excellent cleanliness, very quiet, heating perfect. Really comfortable bed. Milk, wine ,cake and biscuits awaiting on our arrival. Toiletries in bathrooms and lots of lovely white towels. Have payed far more for for other places which have been nowhere near this standard. Hope to return in the future.

  • "I have given a low score on cleanliness as there was a problem with the top bedroom."

The room was very cold and there was an infestation of flies on the bed and at the patio window which caused us a lot of distress.. There is obviously a serious problem here which should be addressed immediately. Having spoken to the cleaning company, I was told that a pest control company had been to the apartment 2/3 weeks previously. The problem had obviously not been sorted. I found it quite telling that one day a pest control vehicle was parked next to me and was obviously in an adjoining property I find it difficult to understand that you can offer this property for rental knowing full well that there is a health problem. A check on the property had obviously not been taken. It seems to me that you are only interested in taking people's money regardless of any issues as you must know about the state of the room. I should not be expected to sort this kind of issue out when I am on holiday. I came away to relax, not to sort serious problems out. This has really left me with a very low opinion of Sykes.

Thank you for your feedback, we were sorry to learn that you had experienced issues with flies during your stay and that you felt them to be a health issue for you, we confirm that we have previously had pest control out to deal with a 'Cluster Fly issue' that we were made aware of. You advised you had contacted us the day before your departure, we are only sorry that we were not contacted straight way during your stay as we would have been happy to attend the property and address any issues so that they would not have impacted on stay. Thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "This was our second visit to Bayview Tower, and it really is a gem of a property."

The location could not be better with wide views across the bay, from the lounge, the main bedroom and the balcony in the second bedroom. The apartment is quiet, being just away from the main road through the town, but is well located for visiting other places around the North Devon coast and Exmoor. The kitchen is well equipped and the apartment is well furnished throughout, including an amazing four-poster bed! Everything is well maintained and clean. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped for food preparation and cooking. Loved the option for indoor and outdoor eating, obviously weather dependent! The bed was comfortable and the views from the main bedroom were glorious. Plenty of space for 2 couples, although there were only 2 of us. Loads to see and do in the immediate area. We didn't move the car for the first 3 days!

Very well equipped all our needs were met. We would recommend this property. There is a steep bank from the property to Lynton which should be mentioned. The information book in the property was not up to date we needed to get in touch with the housekeeper re the change of bed linen and towels on ringing the number in the book we were told they no longer cleaned Bay Tower she was very helpful and got in touch with the landlord who eventually emailed us and the cleaners eventually arrived.

The views are fantastic. That can rival any european holiday destination. The rooms are big with high ceilings. The windows provide a great panoramic scene. The patio furniture is very stable and the garden walks are so pretty. They lead down to coastal path. The walk to the valley of rocks is spectacular. The four poster bed is a nice touch in the main bedroom. The utility room. Has all mod-cons, including nespresso machine. Each room has a t.v. and dvd player. The wifi signal around the house is great. I would highly reccomend this property, especially in the summer months.

A lovely property but poor cleaners & cleaning.

Thank you so much for your feedback and for taking the time to talk to Sykes as I take pride in the property and will always look to improve where I can. I’m glad you loved the welcome basket, we do try to include things we know customers will enjoy and that you enjoyed the property. Apologies regarding any cobwebs, this has already been addressed and will be monitored. We did also have some birds nesting nearby recently and they may possibly have flown near the outside furniture and regrettably done what birds do.. We are currently using a dedicated anti Covid spray to ensure customer safety at the property and we are checking whether the sand granules have been residue from the spray when it has dried, thanks for letting us know. We are also leaving extra anti-bac wipes for guest use, along with back up stock of washing up liquid etc Thank you again for the comments which you have also spoken to Sykes about and any issue raised will be addressed and resolved immediately. We do also have two contact numbers in the key details sent to customers and Sykes are also on hand to assist, and I’m sorry neither Sykes or myself were contacted by you at the time of your stay as we would have assisted and resolved any issue straightaway Property Owner

  • "You had told us that the property would be available from 3pm, we arrived just after 3pm and were told, rather brusquely, that check in time was 4pm and would have to wait."

The supervisor was much more congenial and said she would expedite the final clean. The towels were clean but not very soft and smelt musty. There weren't any kitchen scales or measuring jug. The views from the property were superb and the property was tastefully decorated but we don't think it should be classed as luxury.

Dear Mr Rogerson, Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. I am very sorry about the arrival time discrepancy and the problem with the cleaning team. The arrival time was an error on my part which I appreciate you pointing out. I'm sure this was the last thing you wanted and I will ensure this never happens again. We take great pride in the presentation of our apartment and have given our personal email address as well as a Housekeeper contact number should our guests find any problems during their stay. Finally, I have purchased a set of kitchen scales & measuring jug for the apartment for future guests use as you mentioned. Thanks again for your feedback and rest assured any negative points will be immediately addressed. I was pleased to hear you found the apartment comfortable and you enjoyed the breathtaking view. Bay Tower looked and proved to be a superb choice for our break. The property led from the old hotel entrance and first impressions were of opulence and fascinating fittings. The advertisement did the property justice and even the small necessities were to be supplied. The bedrooms were great and three late seventy year olds coped with the stairs easily. The provision of all necessary fittings like dishwasher, washing machine etc made staying here even more satisfying. Walking the 20 yards back up the driveway puts you on the Valley of the Rocks coast path providing even more spectacular panoramas of this wonderful coastline. I recommend this special place highly.

The property

Set in Exmoor National Park, this luxurious three storey, grade II listed, holiday cottage is exquisitely located on North Devon’s breathtaking coastline with an elevated position, boasting panoramic sea views over the Bristol Channel.

Having once stayed in Lynton Cottages, the stunning view so inspired the author CS Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia that he wrote in his journal, “The view from the balcony was beyond everything I have ever seen” (Lynton, 1925).

Set in one of the prettiest coastal locations in England, with opportunities to explore Exmoor National Park and its magnificent natural beauty, this picturesque cottage exudes style and character from top to bottom.

Perfect for couples, or a family of four, the accommodation boasts very spacious bedrooms and an open-plan living space with free super-fast WiFi throughout! The kitchen is equipped with quality furniture and fixtures, and additionally a fridge/freezer and washing facilities are located in the utility room for convenience.

There is also a ground floor cloakroom just off the utility room.

Relax together in the sitting area and feast your eyes on the stunning vistas out across the water that so moved CS Lewis.

The rugged scenery envelopes this fairy tale property with a picture postcard setting.

Bring the view even closer by throwing open the glass doors to the patio and enjoying the fabulous view from your private terrace.

The first floor is host to an impressive hand-carved superking sized four poster bed, in a room overlooking the bay, with an en-suite bathroom.

On the second level you will find another luxury, superking sized bed in a light and airy room with beautiful exposed beams.

From here you can step out on the to balcony and enjoy more of the delightful seascapes from a seated position which catches the late afternoon sun.

Lynton offers shops, pubs and cafes galore, art galleries and craft shops, a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, and spectacular walks for all abilities in some of the most beautiful surroundings in the UK.

The beach and picturesque coastal town of Lynmouth can be easily accessed on foot from the cottage (no need to move the car!) by use of the historic funicular cliff railway which is the highest and steepest totally water-powered railway in the world!

The terminal for this exciting and unusual form of transport is situated just 5 minutes’ walk from the cottage so you can easily enjoy everything that the two towns have to offer.

Why not set off from the cottage along the beautiful South West Coastal Path to the magnificent Valley of Rocks, hire kayaks, go horse-riding in Exmoor, visit Exmouth Zoo or travel on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway?

Little ones will also enjoy the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and the nearby sandy beaches of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe.

Just a few ideas of the many things to see and do in and around this charming area of North Devon.
