  • "We had a great stay at 20 Tamar Cottages."

Lovely area with lots to do. The cottage itself was fantastic, extremely clean and beautifully decorated with many personal touches, and everything we needed in the kitchen! The welcome basket of wine and biscuits was a lovely touch along with a note from the owner. Unfortunately the note also informed us that we would be unable to use the balcony, which was a real shame, especially as the weather was warm, and something we feel we should have been informed about long before our arrival as the issue was a safety one (wood rot in the handrail that had clearly been there a while). We also felt the description of the cottage implies a bathroom with a toilet and an additional toilet, which is not the case, and there are no locks on the bathroom or toilet doors!! Whilst this may not bother some people not everyone would be happy with this! Our only other difficulty was drying washing - there was only a single airer which made drying washing for 4 adults and a 6 month old baby problematic! An outdoor washing line or use of a drier would have been very much appreciated, like some of the other cottages on the site have. However, a lovely holiday was had by us all in spite of the few points mentioned.

  • "We arrived early and the owner was all to willing to accommodate this, the cottage was clean(only downside was windows were noticeably dirty and no access to onsite facilities swimming etc."

.) all amenities you would require and more, kids loved the place loads of board games for the evening and extensive dvd collection (didn't get round to watching any tho) kitchen had all mod cons, always had parking, site very quiet (perhaps due to not being a school hoilday) the site shop has all you require at a fair price if you need a few forgotten bits, all in all a pleasant stay, would we stay again the kids said yes we said maybe not because we prefer to be closer to the sea but this year decided to try a hoilday park(but that doesn't take away from the hosts hospitality) out of ten we give it a 8

  • "A clean and well-kept property in a quiet, green corner of Honicombe Holiday Village (not Honicombe Park per the Sykes description, which is a residential park)."

Overlooks a lawn and small children's play area, with no dogs allowed. A good location for walks in the unspoilt Tamar Valley AONB as well as Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. We used the map supplied by the owners to walk from the house to Cotehele and Calstock via Danescombe Valley (very nice but hilly!). Liked the open plan upstairs area and balcony and made good use of the huge range of DVDs in the evenings. Comfy beds. Only areas for improvement - provide an information folder with instructions for TV etc. plus details of local pharmacies, hospitals, farm shops and café/pub recommendations etc. Also a bathroom extractor fan and longer shower curtain would help. Note that one of the beds in the 'twin room' is a folding bed only suitable for children. The off-road parking isn't allocated so it's first come first served but we had no problem getting a slot next to the house even in peak season. For teenagers there's a games room on site with table tennis, pool table and table football. Bring pound and 50 pence coins since the bar won't provide change!

  • "The property was immaculate and so cosy."

Very spacious, good WiFi and TV which was essential to us after travelling around Cornwall all day. It's ideally situated to get to many different places in Cornwall and some parts of Devon. Comfy beds. Bit of a problem with the shower but a plan was made very quickly. Would highly recommend!

  • "One of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in."

Felt like a home. It was very comfortable -- seating, beds, heating if we needed it. Well equipped kitchen. Lots of extra touches -- biscuits and fudge. Writing table had string, stapler and hole puncher if you needed to do any work! We went as a ( old ) couple, out of school hoidays and the site was quiet and convenient for touring around. Shop on site is limited and expensive and, if you like good food, the on site pub meals are best avoided.

  • "Absolutely lovely."

A lot of detail and thought has been put into the decorating of this cottage and the items provided to make it feel like home from home. It was very clean, well presented and so many lovely touches here and there- welcoming basket, fresh flowers, supplies left so we could immediately settle in and plenty of areas to chill out. However, I do feel it should not be advertised for 6 people as one of the 'twin' beds is just a small and very uncomfortable ' camp bed'/ put you up bed. We were a family of 6 adults, including grandparents and our two older children and this was just not comfortable for a weeks stay. I suggest this bed is changed or the description is changed. Also, it would help if the shower curtain was changed for a longer one so the water does not soak the floor when the shower is used. We would like congratulate and pass on our thanks to everyone involved in making this stay very pleasurable and we would happily recommend to others and visit again.

Thank you for your feedback. We pride ourselves in ensuring our descriptions are as accurate as possible and having checked the details for 2 Tamar Cottages can see that we do state in the summary details and description of the property that a put up bed is available on request, we are sorry if you missed that. Despite this we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and have passed your kind comments onto the property owner. Property Owner

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
