  • "Beautiful developed little house."

Very tastefully decorated and lacked nothing. Exceptionally clean. Only criticism is getting in and out of the car park you cannot see a thing coming from either side particularly now they have built the big bin store.

  • "The start of our holiday was totally ruined by Sykes Cottages supplying us with the wrong code for the cottage key safe."

This was made worse by having zero mobile phone signal in the area, so it was not possible to immediately contact Sykes Cottages about the problem. Eventually we found a passer-by who was speaking on her phone, and she kindly allowed us to phone Sykes Cottages and remain for quite a while in the long phone queue. When the local administrator eventually arrived from Kingsbridge, she informed us that the key safe code had not been changed, and had always been a different code to what Sykes had supplied to us, and indeed it was written on her own key. We find this an unacceptable error by Sykes and will make us think twice about using them again. The cottage itself was, however, very good - clean and well equipped with plenty of off-road parking, and well located.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We can only apologise that you were unable to access the property when you arrived. This was down to human error and for this we are truly sorry. We pride ourselves on customer service and we have clearly fallen short on this occasion. We sent someone immediately to assist you, however we take fully responsibility for the error. We are pleased that you loved the property and hope that you had an enjoyable week after the initial disruption. Property Owner

Good choice of eating facilities within the harbour area. Good walks in the surrounding area and useful maps within the accommodation. The only negative was no private outside area but this was stated in the booking info and not something we looked for anyway.

Clear instructions on arrival and departure. Good wifi, plenty of parking and everything you could need in the kitchen too (which makes a change from other places I've stayed!) Great location being 5 minutes walk from the beach and plenty of parking. Perfect for a couples get away or family beach holiday. Would recommend to others and would look to stay again.

  • "A delightful cottage a short walk from the picturesque Hope Cove."

Cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival and a thoughtful welcome pack provided (please could you include a pint of milk as well in future :)). Cottage was well equipped if you want to cook or there are a couple of pubs/bars in the village (we only went to The Cove which has different menus upstairs and downstairs) but can recommend. Lots of lovely places to visit a short drive away and Hope Cove is directly on the South West Coast path for those that like a bracing walk. Would definitely return here.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
