  • "A beautifully situated and comfortable holiday home."

Superb views, good parking and easy access to the beach. Ideal for our family holiday.

  • "We had an amazing week at Atlantic Lodge!"

Weather was great which helped. It was our second stay there so we knew it had spectacular sea views. The house itself is very welcoming and has everything you need. A small ask would be a clothes airer to put out on the patio or maybe a new washing line that is not against the wall. We would definitely book again, although we understand the house is about to undergo a major project - good luck with it :)

  • "On the whole we enjoyed our stay."

The beds were really comfortable and the en-suite shower was great. But we were really disappointed by the state of the windows. The house is in a position with stunning views but the windows were filthy and it was a real shame. Considering what it costs for a week- windows we can see through is not a lot to ask!!! We were fortunate to have some lovely sunny weather but trying to cook in a kitchen in full sun when there is no blind and a kitchen window you can't open made it a really uncomfortable hot and stuffy experience. Generally the house and pod could do with a bit of TLC

Kitchen very well equipped but washing machine needed cleaning. Information on what to do in the area needs to be better organised and many leaflets were out of date. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Had everything we needed. Spoilt by the weather this August, able to sit out every night watching beautiful sunsets. Beaches are perfect, just a short walk. Plenty of good places to eat. Lots of fun hiring a kayak. Would love to book again when available. As always another wonderful experience from Sykes, and so grateful to the family who rent out their property, thank you.

We tried to book again for next year, but diary currently blocked out. This would be our dream house! A few bits of maintenance need doing such as the kitchen window handle, but I gather from the agent that a renovation is being planned.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Atlantic Lodge, so much so, have booked again, can’t wait."

Unlike a usual holiday let, It felt like we were guests in someone’s home. Warm & Cosy. Beautiful decor, well equipped kitchen, although I couldn’t find a cheese grater or the glass plate for the microwave! We have stayed at many different holiday lets this was by far the most comfortable. Great access/parking, and close to local amenities. Fantastic view. The weather was stormy last week, and also extremely windy, a couple of the windows had more ventilation due to fittings than I would like, but I guess that’s a bonus in the summer. Thank you.

We booked for 7 but due to ill health only 4 of us could stay and 1 of those was mobility impaired. Because it is all on 1 floor it met all our needs. Beautiful views, easy access, and we had a lovely time.

The location was perfect, the house well equipped for both adults and children and the views were stunning. The owners had a folder dedicated to their favourite restaurants and this was a brilliant and accurate guide to local pubs etc. We left the house feeling very rested, with full tummies and wonderful memories.

The property was very well equipped and very clean. Everything we needed was provided and made our stay very easy and comfortable. The pod was a true bonus although some more comfortable outdoor chairs would be a great addition so you can take in the fantastic views in the beautiful weather we were lucky to have. Overall a really good property to stay at and in a fantastic position within Hope Cove.

  • "We had a fantastic time at Atlantic Lodge."

There were fabulous views from the lounge and the pod especially, but it as great to sea the sea from the kitchen as well. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed for cooking - all mod cons, with a great fridge freezer, modern cooker/hob and plenty of storage/work space. The house is well positioned for getting to the beaches and for walking. We enjoyed walking straight from the house and also driving around. In the evenings we sat on the beaches - the weather was very kind to us. The beds were comfortable as were the seats - maybe more are needed for eight people, we were only five, but could only sit four comfortably. The television has a large, clear screen, but we didn’t watch it much as there were too many other things to do! We ate out twice in the village - good meals, but expensive when beer is £9.95 a can! Our one BIG criticism is the cleanliness of the kitchen utensils, cutlery and cooking pans. Some of these were actually very dirty and had obviously not been washed since the last occupants, maybe longer. In a time of pandemic this is just not good enough. SUCH a shame because we would definitely like to come back after such a brilliant time in a beautiful place.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments regarding your stay at Atlantic Lodge. We work very hard with our Owners and individual cleaners/caretakers to ensure all properties are clean, tidy and well-presented before the arrival of holiday guests and we are sorry that these checks did not highlight the issues you have raised. The property is due for its annual deep clean in March where thorough cleaning of all areas will take place. We were glad to hear that you enjoyed your time in Hope Cove and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Definitely worth the money for wonderful sea views alone. Disappointed pod blocked view from our bedroom but came to love it as great place to have our morning coffee and read of the papers. Unfortunately hope and anchor was closed but took advantage of sunak special to eat lovely meals in thurlestone pub and cliff top, ocean view. Enjoyed our coast walks despite wild weather. The location of Atlantic Lodge was perfect... fabulous views of sea and coast, 200 meters stroll to village and beach. House very warm and comfortable and well equipped. Sofas not quite as comfortable as the beds. We have hired many cottages, and this is one of the best. Welcome pack included two nice bottles of wine! Hope Cove a lovely little place with two pubs and a little hotel, and shop. Great walks on coastal path a few steps away. Late February was perfect here!

  • "Atlantic Lodge is a fabulous place to stay - plenty of room for 3 adults and 3 kids (ages 3+2+10 months) and all the associated bits and piecees needed for a week by the sea."

Hope Cove is a great location for exploring the local area with loads of fabulous beaches to find. Tirquay is less than an hours drive and everywhere in between was stunning. Bigbury and Burgh Island as well as Salcombe, beautiful places, - try the sand tractors - great. Hope & Anchor staff all amazing and helpful - food delicious too - seafood specials - have to be tried. Cant wait to book our next adventure in Devon - fabulous.

  • "Given the price we would have appreciated a welcome pack even if just a pint of milk."

Sofas very old and uncomfortable and difficult to see the tv. Bed in master bedroom with en-suite very uncomfortable with a worn memory foam mattress. Mattress in other double needed a turn. Kitchen small with high cupboards! And quite a bit of clutter in the property which meant we had less space to put our own bits. Otherwise, the view was amazing, bathrooms were good and we loved the location.

Thank you for your recent feedback regarding your stay at Atlantic Lodge. We do not provide a welcome pack upon arrival however, we do supply other additional extras such as kitchen roll, washing up liquid and dish washer tablets. A welcome pack is something we may consider in the future. The lounge has been furnished to maximise the view but for your future reference, please feel free to turn the sofa around. We note your comment about the mattress being uncomfortable. It is a memory foam mattress, which is not very old. The feedback, in respect to the furnishings, has generally been very positive but we do thank you for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed the location and the views of our beautiful home. One little minor detail, only half a loo roll in each bathroom, and no spares, however a quick visit to the village store solved the problem. We love the house, the village, the views and the surrounding landscape. It is just right for me and my now 94 year Dad though the days of striding out across Bolt Tail are long gone, for him at least. I am glad to say that the walk to the pub is still manageable though - even the steep hill on the way back! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there this year and were particularly delighted that the new doors have hooks on the back of them, even though that meant I left a jacket behind which was duly returned to me with next to no fuss. Many thanks to the Salcombe team for that ... We look forward to our next visit.

This is the best self-catering holiday home we've ever stayed in. The beds were very comfortable and the home was extremely well equipped with more kitchen crockery, cutlery and utensils than in my own kitchen. There are games and books to keep you amused and there's a good, large wall mounted television. You can hear the sea, it's that close to the beach. In fact at low tide there are two beaches within a few minutes walking distance, two at high tide. The south west coast path can be seen from the home. That too is within a few minutes walking distance. You can eat outdoors at the table on the terrace while enjoying the wonderful sea view. It's a land and sea scape photographer's paradise and the sunsets are spectacular. This would not be a suitable holiday home for anyone with mobility problems because there's quite a long, steep path up and down to the beach.

  • "The rating is based on value for money."

The price was high for the time of year. The property is not special except for the view. The layout is poor, the kitchen small and the furnishings not special. It could have been cleaned better; there was some dust, and we found a sock under a bed. The broom cupboard was messy and needed a brush to go with the dustpan. We found a mouse in the kitchen. Has one been found before? If so something ought to have been done to block up the likely entry point, and we'd have appreciated a warning so that we could have brought a trap and not left food out. Again bearing in mind the price something in the fridge or at least a welcome note would have been appreciated. (Compare Helpful Holidays etc)

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
