  • "A really beautiful property-- evidence of this is the fact that we have stayed here several times Our thanks to the extremely helpful and considerate owner when we had a slight issue with the central heating (with hindsight this was probably due to the power cut)."

The bungalow is very well equipped and comfortable. Our dog loved it too and also wants to return!

  • "Fantastic location and great home."

We sadly hit the week of stormy dreadful weather thus prohibiting us from taking advantage of many outdoor pursuits however the house was great for our big family Christmas gathering. We made use of the wood burner and the heating was excellent along with masses of hot water for everyone to take showers and baths! Thankyou SO MUCH for the welcome basket and Christmas trees we loved these touches and much appreciated them The two fridges were brilliant for our use so our fears of not having space were unfounded! Negatives - not many but would be good to have an additional comfy chair in lounge as the wicker one is not ( there is space) and ensure all pillows have protectors on. The decking needs a clean and there is loose / fallen wood panels on steps as you go up to the property We would all like to thank you so much for allowing us to stay with our dogs ( we were very careful and they were very good) and wish you a very happy new year. A place ( house/ home ) to most certainly recommend!!

  • "Greystone is an easy-going house in a brilliant location that’s not too precious for family use."

Porch provides a great dumping ground for coats and sandy shoes and the utility room is very well appointed with laundry facilities. As we were a group of mature ladies, the twin rooms were a tad snug and could have used a few more hanging hooks, better reading lights etc. If we’d been even older or less mobile, the steps could be challenging as involve several changes of level. Kitchen had stacks of crockery etc and we had plenty of room round the dining table. Fabulous views and masses of living and garden space made up for any other shortcomings and the solar panels are a huge bonus in a good value holiday house.

  • "Great place to stay for a family birthday reunion."

Very well kitted out, clean and comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful. Couple of small things - bathroom mirror in one bedroom didn't work and we couldn't find bin bags to put dirty linen in. Also, didn't seem to be any information on what the 'speaker' like discs in the ceilings were but kept us guessing! Would definitely stay again.

  • "Excellent accommodation."

Views stunning from the balcony and front room. Open plan layout works well giving a feeling of space. Very comfortable beds. The sofa and seating in the front room are the most comfortable we have had in a holiday property. The kitchen had everything you would Need. Some of the cupboard fronts a little tired. Just be careful if you have a dropped Suspension on your car as the angle from the road to the drive is steep. The pubs in the town were excellent. If you want To go in the evening I would suggest you book. Lovely atmosphere. We would definitely recommend to anyone I imagine the property would be equally as good in the winter with the log burner on.

We wouldn’t have seen them but we were required to strip the beds so noticed it then. Also the floors were pretty dirty.

Nice to have plenty of space and a shower room for each room. Light and airy , two fridges and wine fridge is helpful. Reasonable rental which reflects some of the improvements which could be made. Will definitely stay again

Problem of freezer and toaster quickly rectified by the Team. My only complaint is that I left behind a valuable grey cardigan behind a double bedroom door. No trace of it has been found. I am disappointed that it has not been returned to me.

  • "The property was not very clean when we arrived."

The cleaners had not cleaned under the rug in the lounge as we found an old crisp, the floors didn’t seem very clean. There are brambles on the steps to back garden. The decking needs attention slippery when wet. We still had a great holiday the sea views are amazing. The 5pm arrival is rather late.

My only feedback, and perhaps to do with being at the end of the season, is that cleaning pre arrival could have been better

  • "The view was wonderful and the location very good."

I think you could emphasise that more in the description, I didn't realise how near the beach we were. Just a few niggles, 5pm is a late check in time. The recycling/waste disposal instructions were impossible to follow and it all went in the same bin anyway! Bit stingy with the toilet roll. Wasn't too happy to get a nagging email telling me to clean everything when we still had over 24 hours of our holiday to go. It was very hard to find out what was provided so I brought lots of things I didn't need to. We would definitely come back though.

We really enjoyed the balcony. The layout of kitchen, dining area and lounge were very good.Therw was an abundance of plates, glasses and cutlery. The only challenge was waste disposal. It was clear when General waste had to be collected but not for plastic, cardboard, bottles and paper.

  • "We had a great holiday."

The house is lovely in a beautiful setting but the garden is not secure for pets or children. The garden needed attention there where brambles at calf level on the steps to the back garden, the grass needed cutting. The decking needs cleaning as it is very slippery when wet.some of the outside chairs on the decking need repairing or replacing. The cleaners need to make sure they are cleaning around the edges of the floors and that all dirty laundry is removed as a dirty bath towel was left hanging on back of main bedroom door. These points are not a complaint just things that should be looked at.

  • "The bungalow is lovely and has a fantastic view over Hope Cove."

The driveway is very steep so a low car may have problems. There were some issues with cleaning. The decking, garage and outside furniture need a good scrub and a sun umbrella would be nice. Inside the living room rug and one of the bedrooms were covered in dog hair. The barbeque is not gas fired as advertised but charcoal. The hob doesn't work properly which was mentioned last year by other guests The place is comfortable and well equipped and very quiet with a lovely garden and we enjoyed our stay here

  • "The cottage was as advertised and we had a great stay."

We were a little disappointed with the Oven, hob and microwave as they did not work very well. The hob took for ages to heat up and the oven was slow the microwave didn't work very well. The kitchen taps were hanging by a thread and we were concerned they would start leaking. We were also told to clear all food from the cottage, but when we got there someone had left old food in the cupboards and fridge. Overall we had a brilliant stay and would certainly recommend this cottage and will certainly use Sykes cottages again. Thank you for looking after us in this difficult times. Rod Peacock.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your feedback, We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday and liked the cottage. We are sorry you experienced a few issues during your stay. We are very grateful to you for highlighting these and we will be investigating each point. We do hope we can welcome you back to the area soon. Property Owner

  • "We were generally happy with our second stay at Greystones and had a good time."

However We were concerned that it did not appear as clean as last year but that may be because it looks in need of a refurb. Also we did not think it Covid ready with numerous cushions, magazines, books and rug on the floor. Also I had to clean out the deep freeze which had some food and ice lollies left inside. Lastly we did report to the Salcombe office that on our last day when we stripped the bedding we were horrified to see the state of many of the mattress protectors. Many were stained and dirty. Had I known I would not have slept in the beds.

Many thanks for your recent feedback, We are pleased to hear that you had a good time at Greystones. We are sorry for the cleanliness issues you experienced, we that this very seriously and we have relayed your comments on to the cleaner, who has now rectified the points raised. We do hope you will book with us again in the near future. Property Owner

  • "I would love to have given 5 stars, as this was a fantastic place to spend our family holiday, with amazing views and excellent facilities."

The only reason for only 4 stars is that all but one of the beds were well past their useful life, and were extremely uncomfortable, meaning we didn't sleep too well. I am sure that the owners will be in the process of renewing them, in which case the property deserves more than the 5 stars.

  • "Excellent property."

Great location with beautiful view across to Bantham, Bigbury and points west! Well provided with cutlery and crockery. Completely open plan kitchen, diner and sitting room must be an absolute boon for larger groups (there were only two of us). Bedrooms are adequately sized and equipped. Ensuite showers will be a bit of a challenge for the huskier gentleman but there is an over the bath shower in the family bathroom if necessary.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
