“We had an idyllic week at May Cottage.”

The house and the location are even better than we expected, and the photos on the website don't really do it justice. The house and the location are even better than we expected, and the photos on the website don't really do it justice. Everything in the house - decoration, furniture, equipment, utensils, etc. is of the highest quality. The house has been furnished and equipped as a family home, not just as a holiday let. The downstairs is open plan - bright, airy and a perfect mix of contemporary style and tradition. The bedrooms are all spacious and comfortable - the view from the king-size bed in the main bedroom out the window to the sea is particularly memorable. The patio is private and enclosed, with sunshine all day, plenty of seating (table & chairs - no recliners) and a gas BBQ. The location of the house is perfect - it is on the edge of the village in Inner Hope, so very quiet while still only a couple of minutes walk to the centre of the village. We could walk 30m down the road to walk on the beach (when the tide is out) or sit on the sea wall with a glass of wine and watch the amazing sunsets. The house is also only 30m from steps up to the coastal path, and within 5 minutes you are on the cliffs overlooking the cove with miles of footpaths over the cliffs to explore at your leisure. All in all, it is a fantastic house and location - we all loved it, and were very reluctant to leave it and return to the real world.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
