  • "Absolutely fantastic place."

Everything we needed was there. It was immaculately clean everywhere & was lovely having milk in the fridge, teabags & coffee & shortbread biscuits there on our arrival. Also washing up liquid, cleaning sponges etc, & kitchen towel. Although we had taken our own as well. The bed was so large & extremely comfortable. A lot of the windows were hard to open due to them being affected by the sea air. Was in a wonderful location with wonderful views & the most stunning sunsets. Only short walk, steep hill though, to the village with an assortment of eateries, including the village pub. It also boasts a lovely little beach& plenty of walks to & from the village. All in all a wonderful stay.

  • "Our first time in Hope Cove."

We enjoyed the beaches, sea views and experience in the Cove. Woolmancliffe is a home from home experience which suited my family. We appreciated the detail provided by the owners with furnishings and fittings. Beds and furniture were comfortable for us. Kitchen and bathrooms provided all we needed. The interior of the property is well maintained.

  • "We had an absolutely wonderful week at Woolmancliffe."

The views really are so beautiful and the location is great for exploring the local area with lots of lovely walks, beaches, cafes and restaurants nearby. The house itself was so well equipped, modern and clean and worked so well as we stayed as a large group with my parents and my sisters family. Our favourite part was sitting in the garden at sunset and watching the children play in the garden with the dog. We also stayed over the bank holiday weekend so were fortunate to be able to enjoy the annual Hope Cove weekender which had so many lovely family orientated events and we got to watch the fireworks from the house on the Saturday which was so special for the children. I am so pleased I found this and would love to return!

  • "Great place and fantastic location."

All worked well. We could have done with more information on where to go recomendations of where to eat etc as there was no welcome pack. It would have been handy to have the outside parasol table on the deck rather than lift it round from the garage. We had a dry sunny week so were outside a good deal on the decking.

It was spotless and had everything we needed. Lovely modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. Perfectly located for walking on the Coast Path. A list of local eateries, walks, places to visit and dog friendly beaches etc would have been helpful.

The house is lovely and clean with a truly magnificent view. Lots beaches in east walking distance. There were seven of us staying and it was plenty big enough. We will definitely be visiting again.

If it was full, the cutlery and china would not be adequate. That apart everything was fine.

  • "This is a superb cottage, beautifully equipped and comfortable."

The location is stunning with views straight out to sea, along the coastline to Cornwall, and across to the nearby headland of Bolt Tail. We are experienced self caterers and so were pleasantly surprised to find all the furnishings and equipment of very good quality and recently fitted. The beds can make or break a holiday for some and these were excellent, top quality here. Best of all, absolutely everything worked! No dodgy diswasher or dud lightbulbs though it did take me a while to figure out how to operate the sliding patio door! Watchful for the much-publicised 'Lanterns' building work nearby, we were pleased to find it almost over and not at all disruptive. By the time anyone books and visits now, it will be completely finished. Nearby Hope Cove is definitely one of the best spots in the South Hams. Several good eateries, some character cottages, two lovely bays/beaches and a less 'upmarket' feeling than the nearby busy yacht-haven of Salcombe. This house is a real find!

  • "Property fantastic in every way, been on quite a few self catering holidays where the accommodation does not live up to its listing or falls short on the facilities provided front, Woolmanncliffe is the opposite, over exceeded on all fronts."

Plenty of room for our group of 4, (would comfortably take more), and small dog. Location second to none, good sized garden with outside decking and seating area for al-fresco dining and amazing views of Hope Cove and beyond. S-W coast path literally at the end of the garden giving a short downhill walk to Hope Cove or further afield to Thurlestone. Kitchen facilities excellent, etc etc. Private parking.........the list goes on, unable to fault in any way. Hate to give such a glowing review as it’ll be harder to book in future.

  • "Our week with the grandchildren at Woolmancliff was a great success, the weather was in the main sunny and warm and the house met with all our expectations, the sea view with the morning sun was exhilarating."

Minor comment is that there was no welcome pack recommending eating places, places to visit etc, also a pint of milk in the fridge would have been handy. Builders next door were not a problem, low activity & no noise. Evening drinks on the patio with the setting sun were perfect.

  • "Building site was very obtrusive."

Vans parked all along the front of the house obstructing the view which was one of the main reasons for booking. Spoke to the men on site - one of whom was aggressive and declined to move. Rang coast and country who were incredibly unhelpful and I quote ‘no-one else has complained and it is saturday tomorrow’. Well a) I am complaining and have sent photos ‘proving ‘ the issue and b) they work on Saturdays (and even if they didn’t what about the rest of the week). Second issue; customer services declined to speak to me on the phone until confirmed the booking with my husband (!!) despite it being booked in my name, with my email address and my bank card. Absolutely atrocious customer service. Such a shame as the house and village were so lovely. I will be putting in a formal complaint about the gender biased behaviour and shocking customer services. I appreciate it is a sellers market during covid times but that does not mean I cannot leave accurate reviews on other sites for other potential customers to read to enable them to make an informed choice about the booking (there was nothing on the website / photos which illustrated this issue).

Dear Mrs Manley Thank you for contacting us regarding your stay at Woolmancliffe. We were sorry to hear that you experienced some disruption to your holiday in Hope Cove. Whilst we appreciate that you are disappointed that there was building work going on at a neighbouring property, we would like to point out that the following notice was made clear on the website at the time you made your booking in October 2020: Building work happening at neighbouring property (Lantern Lodge) from April 2020 please call the office for more information. This notice was added to the property page on the website in January 2020, and is currently still in place. We are sorry that you missed this when making your booking. It was extremely disappointing to hear that your when you contacted our head office you did not receive our usual, high standard of customer service. The booking was made in your husband’s name, and as we take data protection seriously, we did need authority from him before being able to discuss issues with you. We are sorry that you found this frustrating. We do also look into all complaints and feedback. Unfortunately in this instance we have no control over the building site next door, or where their contractors park, and their behaviour. We have fed back you comments to the building contractor though. We are pleased that you thought Woolmancliffe, and Hope Cove were lovely, and we hope that we can welcome you back to the area again soon. Property Owner

  • "Woolmancliffe is a comfortable, tastefully renovated house which was immaculately presented on arrival."

The property is very well equipped, and a good deal of thought has obviously been given to providing everything you could reasonably require from a holiday home from home. The property also benefits from having a big, enclosed garden, which was ideal for relaxing and let our dog run free without having to leave the property. In addition, most rooms in the house offer fantastic views of Bolt Tail, the Sea, and the glorious Sunsets! Thankfully, the building works next door are nearing completion and were unobtrusive. The heart of Hope Cove with its two beaches, small shops and great pubs/restaurants is less than a five-minute walk away. Also, the coastal path which runs immediately in front of Woolmancliffe, offers terrific and varied scenic walks in both directions either towards Salcombe or Bigby-On-Sea. We highly recommended this property and its location and would love to stay there again.

  • "Beautiful property in fab location walking distance to the fabulous Hope Cove."

The place was immaculate and I loved having a big garden so we could relax and let the dog play without having to leave the property. I was worried about dog friendly beaches as Hope Cove only allows on a lead, but there is a beach 10 mins walk away which allows dogs to play free of lead. My only negative feedback would be the master bedroom mattress is very soft and I suffered a really bad back after a few nights which I have never had before but maybe I was just unlucky.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
