    Mrs Pitman

    “Driveway very narrow.”

We arrived in the dark and the drive was very difficult to navigate in our Mercedes. Even in daylight the sensors, which light up red if extremely close to objects, were flashing and bleeping. A warning about the width limitation would have been useful. My husband is a very experienced driver and knows the width of his car well.

The property

This single storey Devon cottage is located in a peaceful spot at the end of a private drive ½ mile from the Dartmoor village of Horrabridge, just over the yard from the ancient farmhouse.

It is a perfect base for couples and families to explore the open expanses of Dartmoor.

Head up the path and steps to the front door into the lovely open plan living space with seating area with cosy wood burning stove, compact kitchen along one wall and a dining area.

After long walks and days out, you will sleep peacefully in the two bedrooms, a double and a single, which share a family shower room.

Outside, you have a table and chairs on a patio surrounded by grassy lawn dotted with apple trees.

You are spoiled for open space, with 17 acres of farmland surrounding the cottage, with a footpath leading to the beautiful open moor.

As well as walking Dartmoor, you can join the Drake’s Trail in the village, which stretches between Tavistock and Plymouth and is designed for walkers and cyclists.

Nearby Yelverton and Tavistock are interesting Dartmoor towns to explore, and the city of Plymouth and south coast beaches are just 11 miles away.

Perfectly located for exploring Dartmoor and Devon, Blacksmith Barn is a handy base.

About the location

HORRABRIDGE

Tavistock 4.5 miles; Plymouth 11.5 miles.

Horrabridge is a charming riverside village located within beautiful Dartmoor National Park in Devon. The River Walkham, well known for its salmon fishing, flows vigorously under the village bridge, which is said to be the oldest in West Devon. An excellent base for a holiday in Devon, Horrabridge has a combination of olde-worlde charm and modern facilities, including a good pub near the river and a selection of small shops. There are many excellent walks starting from the village, taking you up onto Dartmoor and providing you with glorious views of the surrounding fields and hills where sheep and Dartmoor ponies gently graze. The market town of Tavistock, the main town of Dartmoor's western moor, is an exceptionally attractive town, owing much to fine Victorian architecture and its picturesque location on the banks of the River Tavy. There is no shortage of shops and cafes in Tavistock, plus the town is home to the purpose built Pannier Market - a must for every visitor.
