  • "I have previously used this property twice before, so when I booked this time round I thought everything would be the same."

I was a bit disappointed to find that the ensuite bedroom heater and 2 of the heaters in the lounge were not working, and as a result one of the guests had to sleep in the cold. A simple heads up would have been fine, as we could have easily brought our own little heaters. The shower head handle was also broken so made it a bit awkward when showering. You'd think these facilities would be checked before someone's stay, but in this case doesn't seem so.

  • "Me and family enjoyed the stay at Lodge 48."

The area was lovely and the view was great! The beddings are clean and comfortable. It has a freezer and dishwasher in the kitchen, which were quite handy. However, some of the facility needs fixing and replacing. We only had hot water in the tab for the first two days. (But the shower was fine). The towel rank was not working. Quite a few glasses were chipped.

  • "We had a lovely stay at lodge 48, the beautiful scenery and peaceful location were just what we wanted."

The lodge is spacious with a lovely large decked area. The area is perfect for exploring north Devon and Cornwall. I'm general the lodge just seems a little neglected, for example toilet seats that don't fit, missing toilet roll holders, and broken old outdoor chairs. These are minor things that would make a big difference if they were addressed.

  • "Although a couple of things were broken, the bed linen and towels were extremely clean and fresh and the bed was really comfortable."

  • "No communication as to how to access the lodge."

Fortunately we arrived when cleaner was still there. We were expecting a site office to check in with. Recyling details left but unable to comply because no clear bags available that needed to be used. Emersion heater didn't appear to heat the water so unable to have a bath, had to use the showers

  • "The lodge site is remote from anywhere down a one lane road and not signposted it takes 15 mins to get to the main road."

You take the turning for West Yagland from the A39 until you come to another junction by a house where you go straight across. There is no shop on site the golf part shut some years ago so bring provisions with you as the nearest big supermarkets are a distance away. There are no near by takeaways. The lodge itself was very spacious and clean, If a little tired. It is not clear but the water needs turning on on arrival and a minor gripe is that the knives need replacing. However it has everything you need and the bedrooms and lounge are very large. Its a 30 min drive to Bude 20 mins, to Clovelly and there are some lovely coastal walks from Hartland Quay which involves some driving down narrow roads so takes a while to get to.

  • "On arrival the lodge looked very dilapidated as the paint was peeling off."

Inside it was immediately apparent that it needed a complete refurbishment. The toilet seat was broken in the shower room and the shelf and shower door broken in the bathroom. The furniture and carpets were very old and it was apparent that they not be cleaned to the standard required for COVID 19. I did not expect this level of decor and amenities for the price I paid for 1 week. On the plus side, the whole site was clean and tidy. Regards Pamela

  • "Had a blip just before the holiday when we were advised that fishing was not possible from this lodge."

Didn't feel that Sykes were very sympathetic or helpful with this but the owner of the lodge obtained a fishing permit and my husband and brother-in-law did get their fishing holiday. The lodge itself was very comfortable and situated in an area with a lovely view. The fishing lakes were close and well stocked. We will almost certainly return to the lodge.

  • "Nice clean lodge in a lovely location, but the first thing we did was turn the toilet seat brackets round so the seat actually covered the pan."

The outside table was broken & the chairs were filthy (see previous reviews). The front bedroom window was only opened once, in all that Easter heat, as it took 2 people & considerable effort to close it. One of our group wanted to use the bath but the water temperature only ever reached lukewarm. The vacuum cleaner didn’t work, again see previous reviews.

Also several of the heaters didn't work so it was very cold to start with. However lovely peaceful quiet Lodge, very much in the middle of no where.
