“You needed a 4x4 to get up some of the dirt tracks to lodge, nearly broke our car.”
It was pitch black on site so couldn’t take dogs out at night .
Beds were like metal as was sofas.
7 miles to a local shop so on arrival had to go out again for essentials. Everywhere else we have stayed have always left a welcome basket, wouldn’t of minded even being charged for that.
Overall not a lot to do unless you like to fish or are up for long drives to local villages.
- Mrs Turner, October 2020
Dear Mrs Turner, I am so sorry that you were disappointed with the location of our Lodge. For many people looking for a complete break away from everything, the real and very rural location is exactly what they love about it, but I do appreciate your comments about the tiny countryside roads which bring you to the lodge, this is something that I am unable to rectify. Also it's rural location means there isn't any street lighting but we leave a torch hanging up in the hallway to help when it's dark outside at night.
The rural location of course means that there isn't a corner convenience store within walking distance, it is approximately 2 miles to the nearest village of Woolsery and only 5 miles to Hartland, where you can find small shops. Unfortunately there are guidelines from Sykes that we do not leave Welcome Packs due to Covid but have tried our best to overcome this and there is available for everyone, tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, rapeseed oil, salt and pepper. Also dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and hand soap at 3 points throughout the lodge.
We have never had a feedback comment that the beds are like metal, I would describe them as medium if not soft. Again this is very much personal preference and can be easily remedied by the use of a mattress topper which will now be available to anyone that requests a softer mattress for future bookings.
I really hope that you enjoyed the Devon and Cornwall countryside despite not being happy with our lodge.
Best regards, Lodge 88
