  • "Characterful, cosy, warm cottage."

Was very well stocked with all essentials that we needed, especially for cooking. Ideally situated for Clovelly and for walking the SW Coastal Path near the Hartland Peninsula.

  • "Loved the cottage lovely location, nice touch being winter with fire set up ,ready to go, and first basket free, would recommend, slight but tho I’m a British Gas installation engineer, rads upstairs not vented and only warm at bottom noticed pressure was on zero, I topped system up and bled radiators."

After that slight but , I’d 100% recommend cottage Regards the masons

The cottage was damp the heating was preset and could not cope the logs provided where also damp so we bought dry logs locally the listing said there was a DVD player but there was not so the box sets I took where wasted the front garden was the car parking space so there was no secure area for my dog

  • "This is a lovely cottage, clean and inviting."

Thanks for the treats left for us and the dogs, they were very welcome after a long drive. The information given on the wall needs updating. We needed to contact someone as there was no internet and needed to work. We tried ringing both phone numbers. One didn’t even ring and the second one was a very nice lady but she doesn’t work there any more! We rang Sykes and they couldn’t contact the owner for a few days. Problem was resolved eventually. Floorboards around the toilet were very wet, there must be a leak somewhere. On the whole we enjoyed the week and the cottage was very well equipped. Thank you

  • "This cottage was so dirty that at 8pm on arrival I had to get the vacuum out."

Dog hair everywhere and sofas that hadn’t been moved for heavens knows how long. Having a small child with us we couldn’t allow him to play without that clean. Please note this cottage isn’t suitable for children much under five as there is no fire screen, no stair gates and no lock on the door where chemicals are kept. The rubbish bin outside was full of previous uncollected waste, bin bag left beside the bin had been scavenged by seagulls so a major clean up needed. We got rid of all the excess waste but something needs to happen that isn’t dumped black bags by the bin. The description of where to put used linens and towels isn’t accurate as the bin bags equalled two and it wouldn’t all go in bad the shed where it was to go was locked and no key fitted the lock. We took it off and bagged what we could and left the rest tidily. Clovelly and the surrounding area I would recommend to anyone, friendly, peaceful and within easy reach of a good beach. Plenty to do for children to keep them out of an unsuitable cottage. The weather fortunately was very kind so we were able to spend all day, every day out and doing. Recommend the Big Sheep for anyone with children. Exmoor Zoo although a bit further if you don’t know the short cuts ( we do we lived here for 30 years) is as good as many much larger, better known zoos.

  • "Lovely little cottage,."

Upon arrival there were welcome treats which was such a lovely touch. There was everything you needed. Everything was very clean, the beds were so comfortable to sleep in. There were puzzles and games in the black storage box in the living room. I would only recommend this to people who drive, as the closest sandy beaches were quite a distance. Everything was a lot further than what we thought. So you do need a car to get to the nice places. The downside to this place is the shower, which although does work, it is broken, and looking back at reviews, someone reported it loose back in september, and still hasn't been fixed 8months on. We tried to report this the day we arrived, but the number left on the kitchen wall to report any issues was to a lady that no longer worked there, so this needs updating. There was no one to contact is we had issues. Also the check-in time of 4pm was very late, we would have liked to check in earlier.

  • "Really lovely, quaint little cottage, the photos don't do it justice!"

Lovely, quiet area with Clovelly nearby. Really nice touch to have the welcome pack too. The only negative is the lack of back garden but not a major issue. Really good stay and would return.

  • "Arrived about 5 on Saturday, bit chilley so looked to light woodburner but no fire lighters or kindling left, did say on info they should be there, had to buy them tht next day, also no bin bags no hand wash for kitchen or bathroom 1/2 a teaspoon of washing up liquid, not very good as all basic things."

Was surprised to see you have to pay extra £12 for more logs when on your listing fuel included. We did rent the cottage on the fact the raeburn in the kitchen only to find it is no longer us

  • "Turnpike cottage is a great place to stay, well equipped, comfortable, very high standard of cleanliness."

The location is ideal to explore North Devon, and Clovelly. My only thought would be if the arrival time could be earlier, 5pm is late to get settled in. Great place for families and couples.

  • "Second time we’ve stayed at the cottage, unfortunately this time the weather was atrocious all week so spent more time in the cottage."

The central heating was set to go off at 0900 and didn’t come back on until 1700…this meant the cottage was very cold during the day. We tried ringing the caretaker on both contact numbers as the instructions state to not touch the heating controls…no answer from either number. So we improvised. Will not stop us going back again but in to he depth of winter the heating should be on much longer or directions as to how to change the timings.

  • "Lovely comfortable stay in a cosy, quirky cottage."

Clovelly is a lovely historic village and ideal base for both Bideford in one direction and Bude in the other. Great dog walks with a lovely log fire back at the cottage to look forward to.

  • "The cottage and location are amazing."

The cottage contains everything you need for a comfortable stay. However, space is at a premium inside and out. There is only a garden to the front and this is open to the road. Once the car is parked in front of the cottage there is only a cramped space to eat and relax outside. Whilst not an issue for us it maybe for others. We had a lovely time at Turnpike Cottage and recommend it to those wishing to explore this area of Devon

  • "The address of the cottage was given as 129, we spent a while trying to find this address!"

! The correct address is 126,which needs updating on your post. We were also rather annoyed when we found a note informing us that towels were not provided!! Yet on the booking it stated that towels are provided. It was a lovely period cottage but the carpet in the bedrooms and stairs was like walking on heavy duty sandpaper, which was not great if you have bare feet. Overall we had a lovely holiday in beautiful surroundings.
