"The cottage was lovely and very clean."
Big soft towels provide along with all the kitchen equipment you’ll need for a relaxing break. Perfect location for us to just leave the car for a week and walk to all the local attractions. There was mention about the church bells in another review. It wasn’t an issue at all for us. Yes they do chime on the hour every hour but we hardly noticed them, did not keep us awake. As we went in November we could park directly outside but there are parking restrictions 15th March to 31st October between 10am - 6pm, not mentioned in the description. Parking available close by so don’t let it put you off as the cottage is a perfect base for 2 adults and a fur baby.

"As stated parking is an issue."
If you have several pieces of luggage it’s difficult to load and unload without either blocking the road or having to carry it a distance from the house.
For light sleepers I would tell people the church opposite bells chime on the hour.
Positive good location.

We think the stairs are very steep and this should be mentioned and the bin waste was an inconvenience as we put them out as asked on the Thursday night and they were not collecting and we were not left a blue bag

"This was our second Sykes Cottage in Ilfracombe and although this was a bit of 'Hobson's Choice' we were more than pleased with the accommodation."
Although small this cottage was exceptionally clean and the facilities more than adaquate for a weeks stay for two people. The only thing that possibly let it down was the garden which could do with a lot of care and a chainsaw for a few hours !! it was almost unusable as its so overgrown and sees very little sun. The cottage is situated at the top of the High Street so easy for any supplies you might need and parking in the Brookdale car park at £20 for 7 days was a bargain as the permit allows you access to several other car parks in the area. [permit available at the Tourist Information Office] Just a couple of small mentions, the shower entrance was broken as was a drawer in the kitchen but these were very minor issues and with all the Covid restrictions in place perhaps understandable. All in all a very enjoyable stay at Fern Cottage and would like to thank the housekeeping service for clean and safe accommodation and would certainly consider a stay in the future.

"Nearby Church bells very audible chimes the time all day and all through the night all week long so pack your ear plugs."
I think all advertising with Sykes cottages and Jordan's Glamping and Sandpiper who all seperatly advertise Fern cottage should mention it up front, as we would NOT have booked if had known beforehand.
Overall Fern cottage of a good standard, but several bits around the property shabby, without the chic. Many small improvements needed throughout Fern Cottage and its garden to make it worth it. We actually rated whist there as not so good and overall we gave a very generous 5/10.

"Lovely compact cottage perfect for me and my dog for the week."
Well situated for walks up to the Torrs, onto the High Street and to the sea front all within easy walking distance. The kitchen had everything I needed and the house was nicely decorated with a comfy bed. The back garden was enough space to sit outside and was mostly shady which was a nice break from the sun. This was my first visit to Ilfracombe, really enjoyed it. I would stay at this cottage again if I was to come back.

"The cottage is lovely, the only let down was the garden."
We enjoy sitting out of an evening, and there was a lovely private part at the bottom of the garden, but the garden is so over grown that it difficult to get to so we couldn’t use it. The cottage had everything we needed and great location with easy walking to the town. Exceptionally clean and we would stay again.

"The cottage was very nice and we felt quite at home."
We had a lovely chilled holiday. The only thing that was a bit off a let down was the street parking through the day. I thought it would have been outside the cottage but it was quite often round the corner a few minutes away...maybe this should be stated in the description. Other than that I would quite happily book another holiday at fern cottage.

"Great location, good facilities although the spiral staircase is a bit tricky to master especially if your clumsy like me."
Good selection of DVDs. Comfortable cottage, nice place to sit at the back door, quiet location.
enjoyed a few coast path walks which is nearby, recommend a walk to Woolacoomve via Morthoe, or a walk to Berrynarbour via Hele to other way.
Food in the George and Dragon very good - oldest inn in Ilfracombe, very friendly staff.
A nice place to relax, a most enjoyable week away.

"We were disappointed that the cottage did not have any clothes hanging facility along with no iron/ironing board too."
This is odd in a property where stays are a week or more. The shower is in need of a deep clean and re-grouting and re-sealing too as the mould is unsightly. The location was good but the garden is in a dire need of cutting back and is unusable which is a shame.

"We have just got back from Fern Cottage, having spent a week there."
Although the position of the cottage is very convenient for access to the town, there were a number of problems associated with the property. The most annoying of these was the shower tray, the drain was blocked and after the first person had had a shower, it took 40 minutes for the shower tray to empty before the next person could use it.
Despite the fact that it is stated that "road side parking is available" it is only allowed during the winter months. There are car parks in the town but these proved to be expensive. In the end we went to the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) and bought a weekly pass, it is a pity that the owners did not inform us that these was available. Strangely, there are no wardrobes in the property, so there is no where to hang shirts or dresses etc. At least five of the light bulbs had blown and not been replaced. The TV is extremely small and therefore difficult to watch. There was no way of lighting the gas hob, as the sparking mechanism does not work. Lastly the garden and so called patio area is dark and very dirty. It need a good tidy up.
Sandpiper, the maintenance company for the property, were extremely helpful. After a quick phone call to them, the light bulbs were replaced, a gas lighter for the cooker was provided and a plumber was sent to rectify the shower drain. They also provided a mirror for the main bedroom as there wasn't one when we arrived.

"The neighbours are upset with people having bbq's at Fern Cottage and I think this needs to be made clear to holiday makers."
Also, guidance on the rubbish and recycling as all places are different and have different recycling bins/containers. Our rubbish was never collected during the week we were there.
