  • "We had a lovely stay at ocean breeze during February half term."

Amazing apartment with fantastic views. Great self catering accommodation with only a short walk down the coastal path into Ilfracombe town centre. A wonderful base for our holiday. The kitchen has everything you need for a self catering holiday, including salt pepper oil kitchen towel and silver foil, which we have learnt to take with us now, so this was an added bonus to be able to take it home. Our 5 year loved the swivel chair in the lounge, and I’d have to agree, when teamed with the footstool it was very comfortable :) Thank you Skye Cottages. We’ll see you again next time.

The only issue we found was that in high winds the ensuite bedroom sliding window 'creaked' (Top left hand corner - as if ever so slightly, loose ... maybe... as I am not a window fitter and it was in the middle of the night !) in the wind rather than whistling/howling sound. Nothing drastic and it did not dampen our stay but I reported it to the owner via text. As for the view from all of the windows - WOW !!! And would we come and stay in Ocean Breeze again - YES

  • "The apartment is fine for a holiday rental."

There's mould in the shower and bits of damage to the walls but it's OK and we'd be OK here for a week if no one was above. However the floors transmit noise terribly and presumably the apartment above has no carpets. We can hear stomping and kids running around all the time which isn't at all relaxing. Yes, kids run and they aren't doing any harm but we don't want to hear them! It's just not the quiet break we need so will probably end up leaving after only one or two nights if it doesnt improve a lot. Very disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback. This is the first time we have had a concern raised over noise from other flats. We are sorry that this occurred and disturbed your stay. - The Owner Relations Team Property Owner

The apartment was very clean and comfortable and tastefully furnished. The only criticism was not being able to check in until 6pm and then having to check out at 9am. This means nearly a whole day is wasted. Please can this be rectified as it is such a lovely place to stay and we will most certainly be returning.

However, for the second time on a 2 week holiday we have not had a functioning washer/dryer. On this occasion, although Sandpiper arranged an engineer visit promptly, it appears that parts had to be obtained from Italy so no repair was possible during our holiday. You will appreciate that it is difficult to manage without clothes washing facilities for 2 weeks and this is one of our key requirements. Perhaps a new machine is required!

I was very impressed with Sykes from the helpdesk team to the documentation provided. The property is easy to find, parking is straightforward, it is easy to get out of Ilfracombe if you are travelling around Devon like we were. Its worth noting the gate on the bend leading to the property which leads down to the sea front and is a good short cut. We would highly recommend Settantanove and Giovanni and Luca if you are having a meal out.

  • "It would have been useful that in the description about the apartment that it told you that it was at the top of a very steep hill, and had I have known that from the outset I am not sure I would have been it."

However it had amazing views and was a very comfortable place to stay. The broken gate needs to be remedied soon as my friend and I found it very difficult to move and for older people it would be extremely difficult for them to push back and then pull across. Within the property the light in the cooker hood was not working, nor were two of the lights in the en-suite over the mirror. The sliding balcony door in the main bedroom does not appear to shut properly in the top right hand corner, as we had really strong winds on Thursday and Friday last week, and on both nights I was woken by the wind whistling through the door. Could I suggest that the information regarding the wi fi is put on one of the notices as it is very difficult to read the information on the hub as the writing is so small and even with glasses I found it almost impossible to read. Could I also suggest that a notice is put up asking people to empty the toaster before they leave, as it obviously had not been emptied for several weeks when I used it on the Sunday morning. We would certainly book with Sykes again as we had a lovely time away during a very difficult year in a very nice part of the country and in a very nice property. Thank you Carole Upton

  • "The apartment is positioned in an imposing building over looking Ilfracombe which facilitated excellent panoramic views."

It is very comfortably furnished and extremely well equipped. The main bedroom carpet, however, is badly stained and appears grubby. We experienced disturbed/lack of sleep due the patio doors constantly rattling throughout the night which we were unable to stop. There was also considerable noise from heavy footsteps from above apartment. The automatic gate was not working which meant we had to physically open and close the heavy metal gate when entering and leaving. Which was extremely inconvenient!!

  • "Firstly let me say this is probably one of the best apartments in Ilfracombe."

It’s beautifully appointed and overlooks the sea. It is well equipped with good quality furnishings. Unfortunately, that is where the good news ends. On our arrival, we found the keys easily enough and tried using the tag to open the security gate to gain access. It didn’t work. A phone call revealed that it was defective and had to be opened manually. Inconvenient but not a big problem. Secondly, in 32C we find the lift doesn’t work either. The apartment is on the fourth floor, so my wife and I who are in our mid 60s with various health issues have to drag our heavy cases up several flights of stairs in the stifling heat. We climb these stairs all week as the lift isn’t repaired until Thursday afternoon when it manages just one journey before breaking down again with the same apparent fault. On entering the apartment, we find the waste bin broken..not just broken but falling to bits. The toilet seat in the en suite Is broken and there’s a peanut in one of the bowls in the living area. This is despite us effectively losing nearly a day of our holiday due to the alleged additional deep cleaning of the premises due to the current COVID 19 pandemic. This is an expensive property to rent and we did so because it promised a lift and high quality accommodation. After several days of struggling up the stairs we finally gave up and left a day early. Frankly, it was not at all impressive and we won’t be returning.

  • "This comfortable home-from-home was just the luxurious treat we needed."

The obvious winner was being able to look out of the balcony doors over the ocean from both the bedrooms and living room, but this superb experience was matched indoors by the attention to quality and detail in the fixtures and fittings - DO investigate the coffee table! Spotlessly clean, essentials sometimes missed such as washing up liquid, anti-bac soap, tea towels and toilet roll were left for us - we took our own dishwasher and laundry tabs. Centrally located, the apartment is ideal for visiting the local beaches, countryside and attractions, and the Ilfracombe takeaways mainly have delivery services which you might find important while Covid is still around. The local Lidl is just a 5 minute walk away, but only if you're not afraid of the hill on the way back! There is one puzzle that amused us but irritated our teenager - the twin bedroom door cannot be closed unless the nearest bed is pulled to be on a diagonal across the room. Whether this is because the beds are new, and longer than the old ones, or perhaps the room has been rearranged, but it seemed a bit incongruous with the otherwise thoughtful and tasteful presentation of the rest of the apartment. Having said that, the whole family would have no hesitation in staying again should the opportunity arise.

  • "Ocean Breeze is a wonderful apartment!"

The views of the sea are absolutely amazing and the apartment is decorated and furnished to a very high standard. It has been equipped to a higher standard than is usual with extras included that you normally wouldn't expect. I wouldn't mind living there! My only negative (which I am sure can be put right) is that, apart from the living room, the apartment was extremely cold. Adjusting the room thermostats didn't make any difference. It is possible that the central heating hasn't been turned on yet and that the heat in the living room came from the boiler in that room. If that is the case, please turn it on as the bedrooms were icy cold. We loved staying there and everything else was wonderful.

Master bedroom with en-suite was tastefully decorated with excellent sea views from the comfort of your bed, waking up and falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean was wonderful and the balcony was great for sitting on and enjoying the full views of the sea. Lounge with balcony was superbly decorated and the balcony was great for sitting on and watching the sun go down. The kitchen was extremely well appointed with plenty of equipment and storage. The second bedroom and family bathroom were again spot on. Having private secure parking was a huge bonus and the short walk to town is only about 5 minutes via the park (gate on corner). (We are easily impressed by such technology) It has large French windows with.lovely views out to sea and of The rocks and small bay below.
