  • "We live in a small village surrounded by fields."

We understand how dusty rural homes can become and how many more insects and bugs come into the house but Hollycombe Cottage needs a good clean. There were cobwebs around the toilet that had been there weeks, a lot of window frames hadn't been cleaned for sometime with cobwebs seen. This really let the place down because it's a lovely holiday home and most of it was clean, tidy and good quality. It has a great location for the area between Bridport and Lyme Regis and also boasts some really good country walks directly from the house. You will need an up to date Ordnance Survey map to take advantage of this, perhaps the owners could get one for the cottage? When we stayed it looked like either the shower hose connection to the shower unit or the shower unit itself was starting to leak. Despite the minor criticisms we would recommend Hollycombe Cottage as a place to stay. It has a lot going for it and would be a 9/10 or 10/10 if it came into close contact with a duster periodically.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. This has been brought to the attention of the Housekeeping Manager to ensure that the issues you have mentioned are resolved. We will also take a look at the shower hose. Thank you once again and we hope to welcome you back in the future. The Lyme Bay Team. Property Owner

  • "Property let down by cleanliness & general maintenance."

Needs decorating and a deep clean. General information about the property would help too. Some of the lounge furniture needs replacing, so uncomfortable ie sofa. On the plus side, great spacious property and nice location.

  • "A very comfortable cottage in a very peaceful village."

Well appointed, can’t think of anything that was not provided for an enjoyable stay. Would happily come again for another holiday.

  • "Should be a lovely cottage, had good and not so good points."

The kitchen was fully equipped, clean and smart. Lots of space and seating in the lounge/diner. The bedrooms were large, beds comfortable, linen clean and fresh. The bathroom is small but had everything except for the shower head which was almost completely blocked with lime scale. The patio area outside looked large with lots of seating but March weather prevented use. Most of the house could have done with a jolly good spring clean. There was some black mould on most of the door and window frames as well as dots of old fly poo. There was dust and fluff on the skirting board and in the corners on the floor, plus a few spiders webs. Some of the internal doors which had formerly been dark wood colour had been 'painted' white but there were many patches where the brown was partially visible. The carpets looked grubby. Sorry if this sounds critical but I rented out a holiday let myself for a number of years and I would have been embarrassed to have let it in this condition. Having said this we had a lovely stay.

Everything is catered for and the private and fully equipped sitting out area at the rear is a real bonus. A lovely bungalow in a wonderful country location provides a peaceful retreat after exploring the beautiful surrounding area. We will be back.

We enjoyed the rural location. The garden is well set out for eating or relaxing out doors. It had everything that we needed for our stay. We were very lucky with the weather.

  • "Hollycombe cottage was the perfect base for our holiday."

The property itself was beautiful and very comfortable. The facilities and equipment were amazing and very thoughtfully provided. Kitchen scales were the only other thing we would have found useful. We couldn't work out how to use the television, so an '"idiots' guide" would have been useful, but this did not affect our holiday at all. We would definitely consider coming again. Thank you.

  • "This is a lovely bungalow in a very peaceful rural location, and certainly the best-equipped rental place we have ever stayed in!"

A few minor niggles didn't detract from our enjoyment, though the weather did. We were never able to sit out on the patio as it was too cold and windy, and eventually went home three days early. We had chosen the wrong ten days! Niggles: The spray from the shower-head is very weak, making it difficult to know if your hair is rinsed sufficiently; and we had to tie it up with string, otherwise it just flopped down when the water was running, We didn't need a winter-weight duvet (12.5 tog) on the bed in June/July. Facing east, the front bedroom window would benefit from a blackout blind as well as the black-out curtains, to eliminate more early-morning light. Quite a major niggle was the lack of organisation of paperwork relating to various appliances: we never did find instructions for the oven and how to set its clock to the correct time. Instruction leaflets for current appliances, and other important information, should be in one folder, clearly labelled and on show for new visitors. There were leaflets and other papers in several drawers, but all in a muddle, which was quite frustrating. But we appreciated the comfort and relaxation that our short break gave us. Thank you - but please sort out the paperwork in the drawers and discard what is not relevant!
