Robert and his wife (owners) were a lovely couple. Really friendly dogs. We enjoyed the Cream Tea provided at the cottage. We did have bad weather when we were there, however we went out every day and took our dog on lots of coastal walks. We will definitely be back again. Thank you both for such an enjoyable time.

  • "The Cottage had everything we needed, the kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything you needed and more, all appliances were of very good quality, bed was comfortable, the lounge had a log burner and the sofas were large and comfortable."

There was a cream tea waiting for us on arrival. Robert and Ellen were very helpful. The fishing lake kept my husband occupied when were at the cottage. There is plenty to do in the area and although the weather wasn't brilliant it didn't stop us going out and about. The area is very scenic with quaint villages. We will be going back later in the year.

  • "Regretfully our experience was not a good one, despite our expectations being high, looking at the photos of the property."

The outside photo on your website is out of date, where the white painted exterior is now very weathered. Internally the kitchen is very 'tired', and the cleanliness of the fittings/crockery leaves a lot to be desired, in particularly in this period of Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst the internal furnishing is comfortable, the bed linen has not been replaced since the original photos, and one bed had some particularly bad staining on the mattress. Finally, the heating system is unsatisfactory in that there is no control for visitors - the on/off times seemed to be controlled in the adjoining house, even though we asked if they could be changed, we didn't notice any change. Also, the radiator in the bedroom we used never worked, we were told it was the end of the line so it takes a long time to warm up, but it never heated up all week.

Thank you for your feedback, I can assure you that we take all comments seriously. We are disappointed that you did not have the experience you had hoped for during your stay. The outside of the property has weathered and it will be painted as soon as the weather allows. Cleanliness is something we pride ourselves in and so were surprised by your comments. Had you informed the owners, who live next door, any issues would have been dealt with as necessary. The mattress is being replaced. If there were any issues with heating, once again the owners are next door and would have been happy to adjust temperatures and times as you felt comfortable and even provide extra heating if necessary. We do hope you will holiday with us again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Extremely comfortable cottage - warm and cosy, bed and living room very comfortable."

Kitchen well equipped. Very clean. Very friendly welcome - cream tea an unexpected treat. Beautiful views down the valley and across to Dartmoor in the distance. Fishing ponds a great place to walk around - or fish ... Surrounded by lovely countryside but only 10 minutes from the amenities at Bideford or the beaches. The coastal walkssbd scenery in the area are superb. Definitely recommend a stay here.

Although it is not possible to walk to shops or a pub or restaurant these are within a few minutes drive. In all, a lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of the country with plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area.

The property

Nestling in unspoiled countryside, just a few miles from the north Devon coast, The Cottage, is one of three self-catering holiday cottages positioned on a working farm with children’s play area and fishing lakes on site.

The perfect choice for a traditional family holiday, the cottage adjoins the rear of the owners’ farmhouse and overlooks the farmyard and lake.

A single-storey building with open plan kitchen and dining area, there is a cosy living room, pleasantly furnished with modern woodburning stove.

Two bedrooms offer versatile sleeping with one double room and a family room with a double bed and two single beds.

There is a separate shower room.

The owners’ farmland extends over 100 acres and often you will encounter the sheep who act as useful lawnmowers and keep the grass cut in the picnic area.

There is a large play area to keep children amused or why not have a go at a spot of fishing in the three lakes on site.

Weather permitting guests can try their hand at clay pigeon shooting arranged through the owner.

Just a few miles away is the glorious flat sands at Westward Ho! an ideal family beach with gently shelving sands and rock pools for little ones’ to play.

Nearby, RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Hill, and the coastal path and Tarka trail will appeal to those who enjoy exploring on foot or by bike.

Family fun is on hand at The Big Sheep and there are nearby shops and supermarkets 2 miles away.

With much on offer in and around the area The Cottage is an ideal choice for a fun filled family self-catering holiday.
