  • "The Granary is amazing."

    From the welcome pack (everything you needed for the next days breakfast and more!!) The quality everything... from furnishings and bedding, toiletries, crockery and cutlery and everything you can possibly need for a great stay. The Granary was also SPOTLESSLY clean, we could not fault it. We normally take stuff with us to make up for anything that hasn't been thought of. Well, we had to pack it all away again as it was not needed. The location is perfect for great walks either along the beautiful beaches or woodland walks. Alas we were unable to try the local pubs and restaurants as we hit Tier 3 during our stay but as everything was so perfect anyway we didnt feel the need to go out for meals. Charlie and Julia were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We were so lucky to visit before complete lockdown hit 1 day later.... By far one of the best holiday homes we have ever stayed in (and we have done a lot both UK and abroad). We will most definitely be going back (if they'll have us :--) )

  • "We had a fantastic time during our weeks holiday."

    A very warm welcome with freshly baked cakes and bread (and wine) was just what we needed after a long drive! Fabulous hosts who were not at all intrusive but were on hand if we needed anything. Lovely location with beautiful views across the countryside. We would highly recommend to others as a fantastic place to relax and enjoy a family holiday. Thank you!

  • "Really luxurious property."

    Brilliant hosts - Very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Charlie made us a delicious lemon cake and newly baked bread which were there on arrival. Wifi is great, loads of sockets.During one spell of bad weather we listened to our music on the Sonos sound system - really impressed by the sound. Didnt want for anything. The pretty enclosed garden is completely safe for our little dog. There is table tennis and badminton but unfortunately the weather was too wet or windy this time. Cant fault anything. It has been renovated with a lot of thought and attention to detail. And also for any accessibility needs - which we havent but still enjoyed the large doors, walk in wet rooms, adjustable beds etc. This property is in a good location for visiting the south Devon coast - we enjoyed Beer, Brancombe, Sidmouth as well as walking along the river Otter and many other walks. Also enjoyed a meal at the Thristy Farmer at Whimple and other pubs further afield.. ( note this is during Covid times so you may need to book ). This is definitely a 5* property. We werent able to find any off lead dog walks from the door of the property but there are loads of walks if you get in the car and drive a short distance.

  • "We were welcomed by the owners on arrival and were amazed at the generous welcome pack."

    The best we have ever experienced. The property was very clean and extremely well equipped. It is situated in a beautiful area with great views and the garden is lovely even in December. The owners were very obliging and helpful without being intrusive. We even had a surprise gift of homemade brioche rolls for breakfast on our leaving day. The weather when we stayed was sunny but very cold but the underfloor heating in the property meant we were always warm and cosy. We had a really good stay. Thank you to the owners Charlie and Julia.

  • "As experienced users of holiday cottages, we found the Granary to be one of the best that we have had the pleasure of using."

    The whole place is beautifully arranged and the welcome pack was the most extensive that we have ever found. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and we needed nothing extra in the way off equipment. The garden was well maintained and thoroughly enjoyed by our grandchildren, who visited us during our stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. All in all a wonderful restful break.

    Beautiful building in a lovely setting and very nicely fitted out.Very nice welcome pack(thank you) you want for nothing.Good instructions on how to get there,and our Sat/Nav worked well.Not too many narrow lanes.Easy access to the Sea and local villages.Two good Pubs close by.Very safe for Large and Small Animals.We will return excellent value for money.

    The property is first class & Charlie & Julia are lovely hosts. The welcome groceries were lovely & the homemade cake & bread etc were delicious. There were a lot of lovely finishing touches such as good quality toiletries etc. The private garden has lovely views & the perfect place to relax. We would definately recomend The Granary for a relaxing luxury get away. Thank you Charlie & Julia we look forward to coming again

  • "We had a fantastic few days at The Granary - the property was immaculate and perfect for what we needed (our group was two couples and a baby)."

    The welcome pack was a lovely surprise, with a bottle of sparkling wine and some fantastic homemade treats - bread, cake and especially the marmalade and incredible apple jelly were delicious. Charlie and Julia were excellent hosts - as well as all the homemade goodies they were always available to help, from solving some minor technical issues with the sound system to clearing the driveway of snow! They also sent one of our child's toys to us through the post that we did not realise he had left behind - a lovely gesture. Overall, I can't recommend The Grange highly enough, and we would definitely look to stay here again the next time we are in the local area

The property

This impressive timber-clad barn is designed for accessible, luxury living and stands within the tree lined grounds of the owners' Bed and Breakfast property, its private aspect overlooking a pretty garden and countryside in the hamlet of Larkbeare near Talaton, 4 miles from the town of Ottery St Mary in East Devon.

On one level, the uncluttered interior will appeal to couples, friends or families where accessibility or pure comfort are holiday prerequisites.

The bright open plan interior is overflowing with mod cons including Sonos system, a bio ethanol real flame fire and discreet comforts inbuilt for those in wheel chairs including a bespoke kitchen with height adjustable induction hob.

Two luxurious bedrooms overlook the gardens each with their own patio doors leading onto the veranda and garden.

Each with individual en-suites, the master is fitted with a walk in shower, his and hers basins and a deep tub with wall mounted TV.

Each bathroom is fitted with intercom and external telephones should you wish to make contact with the outside world whilst enjoying a soak in the bath.

For your supreme comfort the master bedroom is also furnished with independently electrically adjustable mattresses.

Sliding doors reveal a beautiful timber veranda outside, lit with LED and overhead lights and patio furniture for relaxing whilst the sun sets across the rolling countryside.

There is an outdoor shower to hose off muddy paws or cool off during hot summer months.

The garden is fully enclosed with an unfenced pond within, therefore children must be supervised at all times.

The village of Whimple is 1.5 miles where you will find a great foodie pub, village store and a main line station with services to Exeter and Waterloo.

Ottery St Mary, famous for its annual Tar Barrel tradition in November is 4 miles, and the market town of Honiton is 8 miles.

The Jurassic Coast is within easy reach with seaside villages of Branscombe, Sidmouth and Beer roughly 13 miles.

Perfectly located with the A30 just 2 miles, The Granary is a convenient base for couples, business or a luxury family holiday in the beautiful East Devon countryside.

OTTERY ST MARY

Alfington 2 miles; Honiton 5.5 miles; Sidmouth 6.5 miles; Exeter 14 miles.

Ottery St Mary sits beside the River Otter and is well known for its literary connections to the poet Coleridge and for its beautiful church often referred to as a Exeter cathedral lookalike. Ottery St Mary is also famous for its traditional 'Tar Barrels' which attracts more than 3000 visitors on 5th November each year. Ottery has welcoming traditional Devon pubs and plenty of individual shops, offering quality local produce and a warm welcome to visitors. The area is a walkers’ paradise, with strolls along the banks of the River Otter or hill climbs offering magnificent views as far as Dartmoor. Nearby Escot Country Park is a fabulous wildlife visitor attraction for the whole family and the dramatic 20 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site is a short drive from Ottery where resorts such as Seaton, Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth and Sidmouth are found along this stretch of coastline. An easy drive from Ottery is the cathedral city of Exeter with plenty of large shops, a wealth of museums, a theatre and many fabulous restaurants.
