Response from owners was quick and they were very apologetic. Nice views across the fields with lots of pheasant. Very pleasant stay

"Somewhat more remote than we realised."
Very comfortable property.
A quiet location though noisy pheasant in residence and flooring is wood and creaks a lot when walked on.
Thankyou for the comments unfortunately there is not much we can do about Engelbert the pheasant it seems he has chosen us as his new home ,he has brought along his wife now she is nesting somewhere in the grounds. Hopefully we might have some chicks around soon. Property Owner

"This lovely cottage is exceptional along with the very kind friendly owners ."
The pictures do not do justice . It’s much bigger inside than it looks and the views outstanding over Exeter, no matter the time of day or night .Having no car for three weeks due to breakdown the owners offered to help out as necessary and took me one morning at 6.45 am to Exeter when no taxis were available ! It’s totally private, quiet and welcoming . To put it simply this may be as good as it gets .
Thankyou so much for your feedback it was a pleasure to help you out, hopefully see you again very soon. Property Owner

"Ash Cottage is a lovely and cosy (it was always warm) cottage, it has everything you could need and the wifi is very good."
We wanted perfect peace and quiet and that's what we enjoyed for the week we stayed.
The enclosed patio area at the end would be fantastic in summer, during our stay in late October we didn't have a chance to use it.
I particularly enjoyed sitting on the sofa and looking out over the hills to the distant lights of Exeter in the evenings.
There were nice welcome goodies for us on arrival.

"On arrival we were pleasantly surprised."
It was just like the pictures on sykes. The owners had left us 4 pints of milk some t bags and nice biscuits. Thanks. We had a lovely stay there. Had all the home comforts and we were able to use it as a good base for sightseeing. We were in exeter when the tour of britain cycling race came in. We visited a couple of beaches around the area. Went to killerton a national trust place. Worth a visit. We ate at the twisted oak on our last night. Meal was nice we shouldve eaten there more but the facilities in the cottage were good we cooked for ourselves quite a bit. The Alphington sainsburys was good to stock up on our food. In Exeter we parked in the quay which is free after 6. Loved the Quay.

It is a beautiful location, with lovely views all around the property.
I do feel the shower needs to be better equipped for disabled visitors as many are unable to stand to shower.

"Stayed late August 2021."
We felt that the directions to the cottage could be more comprehensive e.g by saying estimated distances before turning etc. On our day of arrival we tried to follow the instructions and went wrong twice and then trying to correct ourselves on the narrow roads was not easy.
Very small points but the first bread knife that we used wouldn't have cut anything but then found another one tucked away in the drawer which was far better. Also tried to use another, what we thought was a sharp knife, to get into a pre-packed piece of cheese without any luck.
Very comfortable and relaxing stay with no issues apart from the small points above.
We would stay here again.

"We had a lovely break and enjoyed staying at the cottage."
We played golf at the 2 local courses. We made full use of the facilities of the cottage- barbecue and cooked meals - this is very unusual for us as we do normally eat out every night when abroad. The local pub is excellent but not opens Wed- Sunday afternoon. A nice relaxing location but close enough to the coast and local attractions.

"Superb views towards Exeter and a lot further."
A footpath at the bottom of the garden and a within a hundred metres or so there are more stunning views in the opposite direction to the south west and towards the sea. There are other footpath walks within a short walk from the house, some through woodland and some over hills. We walked up the lane a little way and down a lane to the left and saw two red deer one evening. A reasonably short distance from Exeter and also lots more exciting places to visit. In the other direction 10 - 20 minutes drive took us onto Dartmoor. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. There is normally a lot of wildlife to see in the field opposite but this had just been cut for hay and we didn't see much. An idea would be to have a map of the footpaths in the cottage.

"It's well situated for touring around the county (and other adjoining counties); however, if you're not comfortable driving along country lanes a foot wider than your car (and this is the maximum you're going to get on some), you might want to holiday in another part of England as most of the castles and ruins you might want to discover are accessed only via such narrow lanes."
It didn't bother my wife ... she made me drive. :-)
The mezzanine bedroom is a curious 'room'. The two single beds are under the eaves and unless you're the size of a twelve years old you're going to be banging your head a lot. If you ARE a child then the bed's OK but the stairs might prove a problem especially for toddlers.
Overall the accommodation is first class and well equipped for holiday needs. The wi-fi was adequate and fast enough to stream Netflix (not provided - it's not a Smart TV); and my wife managed to upload over a 1000 photos and videos to Facebook without a hitch. ;-)
Finally. We were woken most mornings at around 5am to 5:30am of our 14 night stay when a large black bird kept crashing into the kitchen windows! This may or may not be a regular feature.

"Sharon and David were very nice and looked after us really well."
The cottage was lovely and cosy and we really enjoyed our stay there. There were card games, board games; even a pair of binoculars with a diary to note down the local wildlife that we spotted. They also provided a very unexpected welcome hamper. Overall a very well equipped cottage and the best holiday we've had with Sykes Cottages! (so far)
Although it snowed quite a lot (it was January so bad weather was inevitable), there were lots of local walks; Exeter was only up the road and Dartmoor was just a short drive away. If you're into geology then Dawlish and the coastiline is definitely worth a visit and is also only a short drive away.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have recommended the cottage to our friends and family.

"It took absolutely ages to make the booking."
We had a provisional booking for many months and when you did get around to asking us to confirm that provisional booking, you allowed us only 24 hours to complete. You where not prepared to take an 8-day booking, demanding 7 or 14 days, even though the owners are perfectly happy to take bookings of more than 7 days. Finally, you have bombarded us with marketing emails, sometimes more than twice in a day.
