Property is comfortable and had everything you could have hoped for your stay. Not far from lots of beaches and beautiful walks in the countryside. Would recommend for a nice quite break..

  • "Hazel Cottage is one of the best cottages we have stayed in."

Beautifully kept and maintained. So well equipped, the owners have thought of everything you could possibly need at a holiday home! A mix of period to go with the age of the property and the modern to provide excellent accommodation. Positioned at the end of a secluded lane amongst a handful of properties, Hazel Cottage is quite and peaceful yet near to excellent facilities in Malborough and right next to the Southwest Coastal Path and the glorious Soar Mill Cove. Hazel Cottage has a beautiful well stocked garden with a nice patio area with seating and BBQ; secure too for your dog! We loved our stay and would definitely recommend Hazel Cottage.

We love it! A beautiful location and comfy, clean, well appointed cottage. The staff at Country Cottages we're also extremely helpful when we left behind a toy. They quickly retrieved it and returned it to us. Our daughter was so happy! Thank you!

  • "Absolutely beautiful cottage."

This cottage had everything we needed and the little touches and welcome pack made our stay perfect. We absolutely could not fault the cottage. The neighbours were having some drainage put in so we unfortunately had two solid days of workmen and digging equipment going on which was disappointing and spoiled two days of our holiday. I presume that the owners of the cottage were unaware as we hadn’t been told in advance of the works. Having said that I would definitely look to re book in the future and we really enjoyed our 5 days of absolute peace and quiet.

We found everything there that we needed. We appreciated the ability to adjust the heating ourselves as it was winter and you need to keep warm. It was a clean cottage and the owners had thought of everything to make our stay a joy. We appreciated the welcome food pack, a nice surprise upon arrival.

Please consider a short handrail on the wall by the stairs from living room to the kitchen. This was a problem for the less able of the group getting up and down.

  • "We loved Hazel Cottage."

It was perfectly located within walking distance of the coastal path and the beautiful Soar Mill Cove. We enjoyed coastal walks to the bars, restaurants and beaches! The accommodation was very clean and tidy with comfortable beds and crisp clean bed linen. We were a group of six. Our two sons brought their girlfriends and the cottage lent itself well to this as they all had the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom and we had the downstairs. The garden was delightful. Pretty flowers and a large outdoor eating area which we used every day. We were blessed with glorious weather and had a holiday to remember! Thank you.

  • "We had a lovely week at Hazel Cottage- the location was perfect for us and we enjoyed the stunning walks right on the doorstep ( the paths are steep so not good for people with more limited mobility)."

It is a great base for exploring the Salcombe area; we didn't venture very far as there is so much to see nearby. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and homely- the lounge is a little small for 6 but this wasn't a problem for us- we spent most of our evenings outside or chatting round the kitchen table, enjoying the views of the garden. A lovely, tranquil setting ideal for relaxing after a day out and about.

  • "The house is very nice, but the listing should say about the steps between the downstairs bedroom that you advised as a positive (obviously not taking into account people book these property's because of one of the party having mobility problems) and the kitchen and bathroom, we can assist the person with mobility problems into the house, but after that they need to be up to go from the bedroom bathroom and kitchen without assistance (especially during the night) this did spoil our holiday somewhat, I have already put in a complaint about the fact that I went onto your live chat (did not hear back from you) and asked if it was all flat and was told it was, I was told they would double check with the owners and get back to me they never did, I have screenshots of that conversation if you ever need to see them."

  • "Lovely cottage in beautiful peaceful spot."

Wonderful walks straight from the door- our dog loved it. Good amount of kitchen equipment. The snug is an ideal room for the cot. It perhaps should be made clear there are steps down into the cottage and on the ground floor into the kitchen/shower room extension. The bin system in the kitchen didn't work very well- it fell off easily onto our toes.

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful location."

Having never visited South Devon before, we were delighted with the walks on the doorstep and the close proximity of Hope Cove, Salcombe and other little gems (which we drove to, we’re not hardened walkers!). The garden is lovely and the communal area outside of the gate has a beautiful view. The facilities in the cottage are great, if I had to give one criticism it would be the sofas….very low to the floor and very well used. Comfy, but a little hard to get out of after a long day out on the beach! A very dog friendly area and I have no doubt we will return soon. As a side note to the owners, perhaps take a look at the small window in the living room, we had a morning of very heavy rain and noticed that rain had managed to get in.

The location was good for coastal path walks, nearby beaches and, further afield, national trust properties and Dartmouth castle on rainy days. We thought perhaps that there could have been more information in the guest folder about nearby attractions, together with details or a map of local walks, best beaches etc. We enjoyed our stay though and were sad to leave. SYKES FAILED TO DISCLOSE MAJOR BUIDING WORK BEING CARRIED OUT NEXT DOOR, 4 OF OUR PARTY ARE IN LATE 70S WITH MOBILITY PROBLEMS, NO INDICATION THAT THE WALK TO THE BEECH WAS A THREE MILE ROUND TRIP UP A VERY STEEP HILL. ON OUR LAST DAY THE WEATHER WAS COLD AND WET , THE HEATING WAS ON A TIMING DEVICE , NO HEATING AVAILABLE FOR 8 HOURS UNTIL AROUND 17.00 HRS

Many thanks for leaving your feedback. The building work on our neighbour’s cottage has now finished, we can only apologise that the work had not been completed prior to your arrival. Due to the rural setting of the property, many of the walks from Hazel Cottage are beautiful but can be uneven terrain as it is near the coastal path. Please know if you had let us know about your heating issue when you were at the property we could have talked you through how to change the setting. We hope in spite of these issues you had an enjoyable stay and look forward to welcoming you back to the area soon. Property Owner

  • "Don’t get me wrong, we had a lovely holiday and the cottage was nice."

It was filthy though throughout. The kitchen floor needed sweeping as did the living room floor. The plug hole in the shower room was full of gunge and hair as was the plug hole in the bath upstairs. We also found the furniture uncomfortable but I guess this is due to less soft furnishings due to Covid so that can’t be helped. It is a really nice cottage, we were just taken aback about the lack of cleanliness.

Many thanks for your feedback. We are thrilled you enjoyed your holiday and liked Hazel Cottage, although we were concerned to read that the property was not satisfactorily presented prior to your arrival. As you will appreciate, we work very hard with our owners and housekeepers to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained, so it is disappointing to read these comments. Your feedback has been passed on to the housekeeper/cleaner. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are also grateful for the comment in respect of the furniture, this is indeed due to COVID. We pass all your feedback to the owners. We do hope that you had an enjoyable holiday in spite of the issues raised and look forward to welcoming you back to the area in the not too distant future. Property Owner

  • "The house was spotlessly clean and provided much kitchen equipment."

It is also a great location from which to visit wonderful coastal scenery. We would, however, like to warn dog owners. Please note - and this is important - that there is a grape vine growing over the fence/wall at the top of the back garden (on the right as you look out of the house) which is shedding grapes onto the ground. Grapes are highly toxic if eaten by dogs and can be fatal. You will need to monitor that your dog does not wander into this section of the back garden.

We are so pleased that you thought that Hazel Cottage was well presented. Thank you for advising us about the vine - unfortunately this year the owners were unable to tend to the vine as they usually do, due to travel restrictions. They will update their pre-holiday information to advise other dog owners of this. We hope that we can welcome you back to this beautiful area again soon. Property Owner

You stated on the instructions to turn into the road with Southdown Farm/Soar Mill Seeds sign. There is no sign at the end of the road. The only sign says Rangers Office/National Trust. It would be better with those instructions.
