“Rose Cottage was a lovely cottage and once warmed through was really cosy.”
It was well equipped and very clean. Even had a dvd library which, considering the awful weather, was extremely handy! We personally found the mattresses on the beds a little hard, but we had taken a topper with us to preempt this. To be fair, I don’t think any holiday home owner can accommodate everyone’s different mattress needs! The WiFi was the best we’ve ever had when renting a holiday cottage, with a full signal. To be fair, I don’t think any holiday home owner can accommodate everyone’s different mattress needs! The WiFi was the best we’ve ever had when renting a holiday cottage, with a full signal. If you’re taking your dog, although very welcome by the owners, they are not allowed up stairs (which is fair enough, and our dog doesn’t go upstairs anyway) or on the furniture (again, fair enough). They cannot be left in the house unattended either - understandable as some dogs bark continuously when left alone and this isn’t fair on the guests in the other two cottages there.
We found the village of Marldon a bit tricky to get to as the roads the sat nav sent us down were pretty much single track, but once there, you were tucked out of the way in this cosy cottage. Alan greeted us and was really hospitable and very welcoming. There’s a well stocked village shop and post office - although it’s very much uphill to get there! A couple of areas to walk the dog too. “Ye Olde Smokey House” pub in the village does excellent, home cooked food - as we had the dog, we had to use the bar area, which wasn’t very well lit at all. But the food really was good and the menu had plenty of variety.
The nearby beaches of Babbacombe and Oddicombe were very close and we took the cliff rail cart down to the beach. Goodrington beach (shale) looked as if there’d be loads to do during main season, and I would imagine in the summer, this whole area is perfect for getting wherever you want to go as there was lots to see and do for families and couples alike.
Although we chose to leave a day early because of the appalling weather, we would definitely recommend this cottage and would certainly look at visiting again in the summer when the weather is better (hopefully!!).
Thank you Alan and Chris for a lovely, comfortable stay at your pretty cottage.
