  • "This cottage was in a very nice and quiet location."

We enjoyed the week very much and will be returning this year if possible. The owners were very helpful when we needed to contact them but they were respectful of our privacy. We had an excellent Sunday lunch and Maxine was very helpful and approachable. The cottage is right opposite Compton Castle which we would like to visit. What a great holiday - thanks.

Very generous welcome pack and little extras including treats for the dog. Tea shop/cafe next door does an excellent cream tea and by all accounts Sunday lunch is also very good. Cafe is not at all intrusive and is only open a few days a week. Overall a lovely peaceful place to stay and visit the Torbay area.

  • "The cottage is very well equipped and largely comfortable."

The location along narrow lanes is tricky in places; this was compounded by water main problems that meant we had to negotiate a diversion that was not signposted. We felt that a small occasional table by the single armchair would be a useful addition. The steps do make this cottage unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. We never saw the owners at all. Think it would be a courtesy for them just to greet their visitors.

Set in a lovely rural village, away from the hustle & bustle of the town, it was so peaceful & relaxing. The cottage has all the amenities you need & even though I took a lot of items I thought it would not be included (like bin bags & tea towels) they were already provided. A lovely welcome pack was awaiting our arrival which even included dog treats for our little doxie, who we took with us (she enjoyed them very much!). One of the best cottages I’ve stayed in.

Our only concern was the access up 23 high steps and then a slope which proved very difficult to climb carrying a suitcase etc. we are fairly fit pensioners, but this put a strain on us ., and made a difference how many times we went out. This should be made aware of ,and may have affected our booking ,

Stepping through the door we were greeted by a lovely slice of homemade cake, a bunch of fresh flowers, a packet of biscuits, a box of chocolates, a pint of fresh milk in the fridge and not to forget a jar of treats for our 4 legged family member. The cottage was warm and cosy and equipped with everything you could ever need and more. Darton and Maxine were the perfect hosts. Maxine looked after the cottage to a very high standard and served us in the restaurant she was always very pleasant to talk to and polite. Darton was the Chef who cooked the perfect Sunday Roast, which we ate in the restaurant and a lovely 3 course evening meal which he kindly delivered to the cottage as the restaurant was closed for evening meals at this time of the year (March). a nice touch much appreciated. Situated in a pleasant garden - we saw rabbits, robins, pheasants and various birds whilst sitting on the patio. Everything in the cottage was new although we found the chairs a little hard. The owners run a tearoom next door opened usually whilst the National Trust property opened. Also opened for Sunday lunch and we took the opportunity of sampling the dinner which was excellent and we were offered the choice of eating in or having the meal delivered to the cottage. The cottage is in a very quiet spot but close enough to the towns of Brixham, Paignton, Babbacombe and Torquay area of Devon. We look forward to returning sometime in the near future.
