“delightful cottage in lovely village”
We had two weeks at Acorn cottage in early spring. The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The 3 bedrooms were all of a reasonable size, and the bathroom was spacious and efficient. Those with mobility issues should note that the shower is over the bath. There was a large kitchen with plenty of utensils, and a washing machine. While there was no clothes dryer, we found that the conservatory made an incredible drying room - clothes left there were dry in a couple of hours (when we used the room, we opened doors and windows to cool it down.) There was an excellent wifi service. Plenty of books and games were also provided.
As an added bonus, we were there in spring, and saw the new lambs being let out with their mothers in the field behind the cottage. The Royal Oak pub was a minute away, providing great meals, drinks and good atmosphere. The village church had bell-ringing practice on Thursday evening - bells over the meadows! We also loved the fact that there were plenty of opportunities to undertake enjoyable walks from the cottage, with Burrator Reservoir being particularly recommended.
Just one more warning - Meavy is a village in Devon, which is not noted for wide roads! The access to the village winds through about half a mile of high hedges, one lane wide with only a couple of opportunities to pass - which being said, in our two weeks we only had to reverse once!
This was a real home away from home - we loved it.

The property
300 yards from the pub in the very pretty hamlet of Meavy, is Acorn Cottage.
Four steps up from the quiet lane in which it sits and you're into the porch where you can kick off your walking boots, beyond which is a good-sized living room with a handsome open fire.
The dining room is lovely, a perfect space to get together and recount the day's adventures before retiring to the sunny conservatory to while away the evening.
Upstairs are three gorgeous bedrooms - two doubles and a twin sharing a family bathroom.
At the rear is an enclosed garden with a neat lawn, table and chairs, shrubs and potted plants.
Right on the edge of west Dartmoor, Meavy has a good pub serving delicious meal and around its little green and ancient oak tree, rural scenes from the 'War Horse' movie were filmed.
At nearby Yelverton, there are shops and a good golf course, whilst Burrator Reservoir offers walking and fishing.
The market town of Tavistock which has an indoor pool and cinema and the city of Plymouth with shops, theatres and historic Barbican are both about 8 miles away.
