It’s in a beautiful location and the cottage had everything needed, even Monopoly for the grandchildren when storm ‘Ciaren’ hit us

And although it said there were steps,we didnt expect there to be so many. And when you are disabled, the carrying of suitcases, bags and shopping from the car park which also wasnt near the property,it became too much If I had known how the place was I would not have booked it.Mortehoe is a nice place but for fit people who like to walk, and go up and down steps. We didnt stay for the whole week as it became too much.

Thank you for your feedback. As you say, we make it clear in the cottage description that the cottage has steps to its frontdoor. The steps are a feature which gives the cottage wonderful views over the nearby sea and South West Coast Path. Those cottage's description also says that its two parking bays are 30m from the house - we're very lucky to have parking when many properties in Mortehoe do not. We're sorry that your holiday was cut short - as you say, Mortehoe (and North Devon) does contain hills! Property Owner

All in all would definitely use this house and area again if we come down again.

Lovely feedback - thank you. It really sounds as if you got good use of the great facilities within walking distance of Seal Cottage. We hope you'll comeback and stay again soon. Property Owner

  • "The garden area is dire and very unloved."

Also the bathrooms had black slimy mold in the showers. Also there were large pieces of broken glass on the floor in the living rooms m which my 8 year old almost stepped on. The wheelie bin was already full on arrival and there were boxes of recycling on the doorstep- not the best greeting. On the positive side- the view is amazing and the sunset over the sea was stunning. Lovely selection of books and the kitchen was well stocked with all the equipment you could need. We loved the ice cream maker.

We were so sorry to hear that the cleaning at Seal Cottage wasn't up to scratch. We take great pride in our high standards and want all our guests to arrive to a spotless and welcoming holiday home. We have spoken with the caretaker we use and raised the points you made. We do urge guests to call our caretaker immediately if they aren't happy with anything - this way any issues can be dealt with quickly. Our waste collection in North Devon is fortnightly which means there may be some refuse in the wheelie bin on arrival for some guests. Recycling is weekly on a Monday - but it should not have been at the front of the house when you arrived. We have a small yard at the back of the house but no garden. The yard is paved and has seating, a table, planters and a seal sculpture. We're sorry if you felt it needed attention. Garden debris from the house above sometimes blows in when it's windy but this should have been swept away when the house was prepared for you. We're pleased you enjoyed the rest of your stay including the house's equipment, books and sea views. We hope tha the glorious summer in this beautiful corner of Devon and that you will accept our apologies for this inconvenience. Property Owner

Nice and peaceful location.Cottage well equipped with everything you need. On a personal note maybe the courtyard to the rear of property could be upkept and made more appealing and as mentioned in past reviews keep the upkeep of outside tidy which includes front gate repaired. Footpath across from cottage. Please note no access to beach as steps destroyed and have not been replaced since 2014 as a local resident told us.

Thanks for the feedback. We’re pleased you had a peaceful week at Seal Cottage. After a busy summer season we’re about to take a look at the outside spaces. This will include having the house painted and new wood panel fencing. Our closest beach is the secluded and beautiful Grunta Beach (as mentioned in the cottage’s description). This remains accessible via steps. As you mention, the wooden steps to Rockham Bay we’re washed away several years ago. Property Owner

It needs addressing as ruined what could have been a perfect stay. Perhaps you can take it up on our behalf, as you should have advised us: Firstly I’d like to stress that we have been extremely pleased with the accommodation itself, it is very well equipped and in a perfect location. However we were not made aware that there is extensive building work occurring on the joined cottage. I’m not sure if you’re even aware as normally I’d assume there would be a warning email to guests at the very least, or an option of price reduction. . Yesterday morning we were woken to constant loud noise of demolition/drilling and it was not at all possible to sit outside at the back, the plaster dust has covered the garden completely our /wetsuits/ washing line we’re covered in it and also came inside the house causing my husband to have a tight chest (albeit very minor) Today there is a cement mixer parked out front where we sit. The builders are nice guys and are just doing their job so we have not said anything to them, we are not the type of family to ge confrontational. My daughter is here with us trying to revise for her A level mocks and having been through a prolonged 7 year renovation project you can see this is not a great situation for us. It would be wise for you to advise the next guests prior to arrival, I’d hate for someone else to struggle

Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback and we are happy to hear you loved the property and the location. I’m sorry you were disturbed during your stay by the work next door. We had not been informed the work was due to be carried out so did not have the opportunity to inform you before your stay. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention and have made every possible effort to make future guests who might be affected by the works aware of the situation. Property Owner

It was very well appointed and the views from the front of the cottage were fabulous. The rear courtyard we didn’t use as the sun wasn’t in there when we visited and it’s small. There are a number of steps to the property so anyone with mobility problems could struggle but it was fine for us. The knives and scissor’s are nice and sharp. The general cleanness and comfort was good. It is great for a family holiday, if you have buggies or a mobility problem there are steps up to the property. Very good for a walking holiday but limited for buggy use. However, we have holidayed in Mortehoe and Woolacombe many times and knew how steep and narrow it is. It was a brilliant holiday for a family. Thank you to the owner’s and cleaning staff.

Plenty of room, extremely well equipped, 3 bathrooms and 4 toilets. and so easy to keep clean and tidy. Very good location wise as well, we were able to walk to Woolacombe , the coastal walk on the way back was so good. We droves to Ilfracombe, Lynton. Lee Beach and Exmoor Zoo all within easy reach. The walks to Rockham Beach and the lighthouse started on the doorstep. The only negative thing I can say about our holiday was the lack of places to go out to eat, but that is probably more due to Covid 19 restrictions having to book in advance and not really knowing where eating places were. We did use the FIsh and Chip shop in the village twice which was very good, lots of options and the take away next door Rockham House. I had the Thai fish curry which was amazing. If you don't mind cooking whilst on holiday Tesco in Ilfracombe is quite a big store only a 15mins drive and has everything.

  • "Seal Cottage is a lovely little gem in this part of Devon."

We visited Woolacombe some 25 years ago for several holidays and wanted to return to this beautiful part of Devon for a long weekend. We stayed at Seal Cottage, it is lovely, it had sea views from the lounge and upstairs main bedroom. All three bedrooms were doubles with the most comfortable beds and two bedrooms were en-suite. The owners had thought of everything, you wanted for nothing. We had our own holiday home in Lanzarote for 11 years before selling it two years ago so we know what it is like to rent property and our feedback was always 'like home from home' and this is exactly what Seal Cottage is, a 'home from home'. Although we went into Woolacombe each day, we could not wait to return to the cottage for a lovely relaxing family time together just chilling and watching some films. It was so quiet and the owners had on supply for you games, freeview TV and if you wanted a picnic the cooler bag and plastic cups etc were there for you to use. Everything from the kitchen equipment to the bed linen were top quality. We will certainly be returning to this little haven we have found. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

There are steep steps to get up to the front door, which might be tricky for some. Good directions to the parking area, for which we were grateful. Beautiful views from front of the house, and lovely walks nearby. Most rooms well furnished and comfortable; the third bedroom has less storage facilities than the others, and no mirror or dressing table. The other bedrooms are very good, clean, with excellent en-suites. The kitchen is well stocked, with good quality kitchen wear, everything one could need. Sadly, the mobile telephone signal is appalling and it was rare that we could communicate with family, from within the cottage. There is a landline, to which we needed to resort and the honesty box is a nice idea. The cottage was booked, quite clearly for 3 people, and a confirmation email sent to this effect, however, there were only sufficient towels for 2 people. We did contact the owner/caretaker on the number provided who rectified this omission immediately. The Devonshire cream tea supplied as a complimentary welcome gift was also only for 2 people.
